At the start of the season, we wondered which new NBC medical drama had the best chance at survival — Mercy or Trauma. It was hard to decide but now, they’ve both been cancelled anyway.
Mercy follows the lives of three very different nurses at Mercy Hospital in Jersey City. The cast includes Taylor Schilling, Jaime Lee Kirchner, Michelle Trachtenberg, James Tupper, Diego Klattenhoff, Guillermo Diaz, James LeGros, James Van Der Beek, and Delroy Lindo.
The medical drama got off to a pretty poor start last September, attracting a 2.3 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic and 8.25 million total viewers. Unfortunately, viewership fell even lower from there.
Despite the ratings, NBC ordered a full season of episodes, likely because the network needed the original programming. Though NBC’s Primetime Entertainment President Angela Bromstad said she liked the show creatively, she noted that the show’s ratings had to improve for it to survive.
The ratings didn’t improve. The most recent episode attracted only a 1.1 rating in the demo and 4.01 million viewers.
To no surprise, the Mercy TV show’s now been cancelled. The 22nd and final episode aired last Wednesday, May 12th. Unfortunately, it wasn’t intended to be a series finale and didn’t wrap up the show.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Mercy won’t be back for season two? What would you have liked to have seen happen?

Disappointed. This show was really good, in my opinion, and the cast was getting into their groove. Lots of potential, NBC is famous for shooting itself in the foot. They will never recapture their “must see TV” heyday if they don’t promote shows better and give more time for the underdogs. With the exception of Community, I do not watch anything on NBC. If that goes, they have nothing for me.
I loved this show but I’m not surprised it’s been cancelled. With the exception of “Chloe Payne” there weren’t any truly likeable characters on this show. Everyone on this show tended to be more like “real life” people and less like the hollywood dolls we’re used to on other programs. Maybe that’s the problem. We get enough of real life on our jobs and in school; with tv, we expect less realism.
Too bad the show didn’t get a proper burial. We’ll always be left wondering…
Mercy was a wonderful show about empowered women and men that was aimed at adults, not 18 year old kids. I’m sick that NBC canceled this fine show, and intend to show my disgust by boycotting the station. Hope it was worth it, NBC. Way to sell out!
Mercy was the ONLY(and I do mean ONLY) show I watched on NBC. Now I don’t have to stray from the real networks. I guess Nothing But Crap(NBC) will now be back to normal after the Mercy reruns if they are shown……………….. On the bright side, maybe ABC or CBS will purchase the rights to the show!
I’m pissed that they canceled mercy i really liked the show it was interesting to me, and i really hate that they made that the last episode they left me hanging i even cried because i wont know what happen to everyone. The only show that i will be watching is parenthood its the other best show LOVE IT..Do they really think people are going to sit there and watch those lame game shows
I am livid NBC cancelled Mercy! I never missed an episode. I was my favorite show on TV.
If you knew it was ending you could have at least ended it with out such a cliff hanger! I couldn’t wait until the new season this fall. Is there any chance for it to come back Please!!!!
Put it at a Later time I can at least DVR it. It’s a great show loved it never missed a episode. I was sad to know it was cancelled…..
NBC cancelled another good show and this is just another reason why I stopped watching this Network. Mercy brought me back and once again, there is now nothing to watch on this station. This has happened too many times. I am done with NBC. Who ever is in charge of programing needs to be cancelled. I wonder if the Network takes in consideration that a lot of shows are recorded most of the time. From past articals I have read, ratings do not always include shows recorded.
I am so upset upon hearing the news that Mercy has been cancelled! I love this show…I don’t get to watch it on the nights it comes on but I DVR it and watch it every week! I actually stumbled across this looking for some “spoilers” about next season…only to be told that there will be no next season! I want to know what happens to Sonya…and Veronica and Mike…and Chloe Payne! I am so sad NBC…please don’t pull this show…it really is good!
OMG, SOOOOOOOOO MAD. Mercy was the BEST show ……… EVER. I am very upset with nbc. they have lost me as a veiwer too!
NBC come on! Put Mercy and Trama both back on the air. Both shows have great characters and stories. You keep Chuck on the air with lots of problems.Where’s editing when a scene starts in a hotel and ends up at chucks apartment. Why doesn’t Ellie know her own brother’s name? Give the medical shows another chance, please.
I think this was a bad move!! It was a show with alot of real life situations. I think they should at least have 1 more to wrap it up!!!! They left everyone wanting to watch a different station!!!!
I had no point in watching nbc because of their lame game shows. Then i saw a glint of hope when Mercy premiered. unfortunately, i worked ling hours so i always seemed to miss a new episode. dvr saved my life and what made it more awesome was that I got my husband to like it. Then when I hear it was cancelled, I lost all interest in nbc. Parks and recreation aren’t cutting it for me
what a stupid move nbc. i agree with other commenters, you take the show off, put it back on, its on hiatus for weeks, then change the time. it was hard to find when it was going to be on, and even despite that, i never missed an episode. why didnt you try putting it on later like at 9c or changing it to a different day. the person who said you should have stuck it in er’s old slot was right, instead of this marriage ref crap that isnt going to last. you think that stupid marriage ref or… Read more »
When I found out that they had cancelled it I was livid! NBC is really throwing themselves under the bus. They have very few shows that are actually good besides Mercy (Parenthood, Chuck). They wonder why their viewer ship is down? Wake up NBC! Get some programming that is worth watching and doesn’t make me feel like my IQ is dropping when I am watching it… Please?
