At the start of the season, we wondered which new NBC medical drama had the best chance at survival — Mercy or Trauma. It was hard to decide but now, they’ve both been cancelled anyway.
Mercy follows the lives of three very different nurses at Mercy Hospital in Jersey City. The cast includes Taylor Schilling, Jaime Lee Kirchner, Michelle Trachtenberg, James Tupper, Diego Klattenhoff, Guillermo Diaz, James LeGros, James Van Der Beek, and Delroy Lindo.
The medical drama got off to a pretty poor start last September, attracting a 2.3 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic and 8.25 million total viewers. Unfortunately, viewership fell even lower from there.
Despite the ratings, NBC ordered a full season of episodes, likely because the network needed the original programming. Though NBC’s Primetime Entertainment President Angela Bromstad said she liked the show creatively, she noted that the show’s ratings had to improve for it to survive.
The ratings didn’t improve. The most recent episode attracted only a 1.1 rating in the demo and 4.01 million viewers.
To no surprise, the Mercy TV show’s now been cancelled. The 22nd and final episode aired last Wednesday, May 12th. Unfortunately, it wasn’t intended to be a series finale and didn’t wrap up the show.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Mercy won’t be back for season two? What would you have liked to have seen happen?

I loved the show!!! I’m hurt that mercy will not return for season two. I wish they would at least do 1 more episode to wrap up the show. It is unfinished!! Do another show!!!!!!
OMG! I watched 11 minutes and besides the pretty girls all I got was… horrible writing, cliches galore, and the worst fake femimism EVER! Geez, how about some cheeeez. was there ANYBODY directing? or perhaps even watching after they edited? I feel so sorry for the actors, you can see they were trying to be directed. oh man, it hurts to see this and then greys anatomy(soooo much better). Yikes, what a bunch af sh%#@!*t. Love the idea, and even the characters, but the who’s who in the drivers seat was smoking too much……wacky weed or something. again, I feel… Read more »
This was a great show. Mercy needs to come back! Cutting Mercy off was a bad choice. The way it was ended was even more wrong! You can’t end a show like that. Whoever made this call needs to fix this mess. Please bring it back!
I am so sick of the networks that I pay for getting rid of the good shows. You get hooked on them and then poof they are gone. No ending you have no idea what is going on. You can never make me believe that the ratings were that low. Everyone I know watched it or taped it. I never missed an episode. What are you people thinking???? Now all you can watch is vampire and killing movies. I am sick of TV… I guess that is why unless Mercy comes back I have no reason to watch NBC. Sorry… Read more »
I am soooo upset:( i love this show! There neeeeds to be more episodes…
I was hooked on Mercy in it’s first season and have been looking and looking for it. So bummed to find out it has been canceled. Now we’ll never know what happens, GRRRRR
I love this show, can’t believe they canceled, especially the way the last episode ended. Would really love to see this show come back!
This is not good. I am watching it on netflix now yes i know i am late but it is a good show. the main character Veronica is bomb! Love her!
I want it back!
This is seriously some bs …. watched it on netflix …. final episode, and boom, no more fun.
I saw Mercy in Netflix and I love it after I saw that program I realize Nurses & Doctors are real people too with problems like all of us. I don’t understand why the good shows are coming to be cancel when there getting good and in the most important point, like Mercy we never going to know if Veronica lost her two men of her life and if she gets better or her father gets worse. This is the reason sometimes is better not to see any of this shows, Trauma the same things happen, disapear from the earth… Read more »
I discovered Trauma and Mercy through Netflix. I would actually watch both programs on network TV (a thing I’m rarely motivated to do). However, as we all know, both were cancelled by NBC. Both programs would likely fare much better on cable, perhaps as HBO or Showtime programs. I’m afraid Mercy is a victim of programming to the lowest common denominator. Too, bad; I really like the show. I’m very sorry to see it gone. Shame on you, NBC. The better the program in terms of story line, sophistication of material/topics, and acting, the more time it is likely to… Read more »
Yea, same here and both shows were awesome. Tis a shame SMH
I would love a season 2 of this show! It is very disappointing to know this show didnt make it! I was very fond of it…
I am really upset, I found mercy on Netflix looking for Hawthorne, but to my surprise Hawthorne wasn’t available, I saw mercy and decided to see what it was about, and I fell in love with it, I mean seriously I watched 22 episodes In 3 days, I was like a junkie a fenne, I was hooked it turnes out that I liked this show better than hawthorne, wow, I couldn’t wait to see the next episode, and after I finished the last episode after seeing how intense and explosive it was I immediately went in search for season 2… Read more »
Me too! I watched it on Netflix hoping that I could catch up before the new season started. Sadness!
Jerica, this sounds just like me! I am a nursing student, and honestly I loved Hawthorne until I saw Mercy. In between my studying, I HAD to watch episodes. Now I am crushed… no season 2??? Please, NBC, it’s not too late to bring it back! Had I seen advertising for Mercy in when it aired, I definately woulf have watched it over Hawthorne. The characters are so much more realistic and loveable, and the acting is ten times better in my opinion! PLEASE NBC!!!!
Well This is very upseting to read. I missed the first show and did’nt wish to come in the middle of the season so I waited and bought it… watched it… Fell in love with it… Now I and the rest of the world are left with a cliff hanger…… WTF!!!!
This news was very upsetting! I was looking forward to the new season 🙁 The good shows are always cancelled!
Amber is right. NBC execs do not know how to properly market their programs. I started watching because nothing else was on, but then LOVED it! But, I wasn’t drawn to it by your advertising of it!! NBC’S advert skills suck!!
NBC does always cancel the good shows.
