At the start of the season, we wondered which new NBC medical drama had the best chance at survival — Mercy or Trauma. It was hard to decide but now, they’ve both been cancelled anyway.
Mercy follows the lives of three very different nurses at Mercy Hospital in Jersey City. The cast includes Taylor Schilling, Jaime Lee Kirchner, Michelle Trachtenberg, James Tupper, Diego Klattenhoff, Guillermo Diaz, James LeGros, James Van Der Beek, and Delroy Lindo.
The medical drama got off to a pretty poor start last September, attracting a 2.3 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic and 8.25 million total viewers. Unfortunately, viewership fell even lower from there.
Despite the ratings, NBC ordered a full season of episodes, likely because the network needed the original programming. Though NBC’s Primetime Entertainment President Angela Bromstad said she liked the show creatively, she noted that the show’s ratings had to improve for it to survive.
The ratings didn’t improve. The most recent episode attracted only a 1.1 rating in the demo and 4.01 million viewers.
To no surprise, the Mercy TV show’s now been cancelled. The 22nd and final episode aired last Wednesday, May 12th. Unfortunately, it wasn’t intended to be a series finale and didn’t wrap up the show.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Mercy won’t be back for season two? What would you have liked to have seen happen?

Very disappointed -it was a great series -had wonderful story line and a good solid cast – there are so many shows out there that just don’t measure up
I am also upset that there will be no Season 2 of Mercy! Most really good shows, the ones that have complex characters, take time to grow a viewership. But once they have a fan base, the devotees will stick around to watch these characters grow, develop and evolve. There are so many possibilities for storylines with such a talented group of actors.
like seriously! im like in love with show and i find out its was canceled im so mad cuz it finished with unanswered questiond. what is this look how many people want it back. everyone here wants it back! PLEASE BRING IT BACK!
Mercy is a great TV Show, they need to bring it back. I have not finished all the 22 shows almost done. I am sad that their is no season 2. I look forward to watching in the evening with my husbad. I am so hooked on it. BRING IT BACK!
I am just starting to watch Mercy on Netflix and I love it!. My background is ICU nursing and I love seeing those young nursing characters as be strong and intelligent. I think a problem with TV shows is that women will watch shows whose characters are primarily men but men won’t watch shows that are primarily women. I think Mercy is a smart, thought provoking show.
LOVE MERCY!!!! PLEASE PLEASE put it back on!!!!!!!!!!!! Watched all 22 episodes in one wk on Netflix and now I’m hanging! Got on google to find out when I can start watching season 2 and it’s canceled!!! NO!!! this is the BEST show.. PLEASE put this back on the air!!
I agree with you!
I did the exact same thing as you Sheena! Just found the show on netflix, watched all 22 episodes in like 4 days and got online to see when season 2 would be out and find out it’s been cancelled!! Very disappointing!!
I loved Mercy. I can not believe it has been cancelled.
I am kinda pissed. I really loved this show and now it is being cancelled. What are they crazy?? Especially without a series finale. This is totally bogus. They need to bring this show back and with the same characters. I am definitely going to miss this show.
I agree with everyone’s comment here I as well am irritated at the fact that they started this series and ended it the way they did… SMH it would be awesome to get season 2 up and running, is there anyway we can do that?! Like sign a petition or something. There’s a lot of questions I want answered in regards to this show. Was Chris’s plane bombed, is he alright? Did Mike get hit by the car, or did he jump out of the way? Is Sonia back with the cop for good? Is Briggs gonna hook up with… Read more »
this show was GREAT!!! i would love for it to come back. im really hoping someone would pick this show up again. it just seems like a total waste.
I would have to agree with Jessica. Mercy had me so drawn to it. Mercy has been one of the best shows I have watched since Greys Anatomy. I am very upset that the network would make such a terrific show and have it end the way it did. What was even the point of starting the show to not continue it. Im so irritated and dissapointed.
I LOVE Mercy, I can’t believe that the last show wan not an ending it was a cliff hanger. They should have at least ended the show properly. Please try again, you have lots of fans and it would be very popular.
They shouldn’t have ended it, at all!! I ahve been waiting for it to return and now find THIS out!! I am completely pissed!! NBC execs are IDIOTS!!
Watched all 22 episodes of Mercy on Netflix and would watch season 2, but unfortunately it was cancelled. All characters were compelling, actors well cast, snappy dialogue, and we were entranced with the show. Really too bad that it was cancelled!

I like many of the others that have commented, got hooked on this show due to Netflix. My question is – if it wasn’t good enough to keep around on TV, then why put it out there for us to view on Netflix? Now we are pining away for a show that is no longer around. It’s ridiculous. One comment said something to the effect of “if it was advertised better, I’d have watched it.” I completely agree. I do not remember this show being advertised at all. The concept of the show is great. You get sooo many “doctor… Read more »
