At the start of the season, we wondered which new NBC medical drama had the best chance at survival — Mercy or Trauma. It was hard to decide but now, they’ve both been cancelled anyway.
Mercy follows the lives of three very different nurses at Mercy Hospital in Jersey City. The cast includes Taylor Schilling, Jaime Lee Kirchner, Michelle Trachtenberg, James Tupper, Diego Klattenhoff, Guillermo Diaz, James LeGros, James Van Der Beek, and Delroy Lindo.
The medical drama got off to a pretty poor start last September, attracting a 2.3 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic and 8.25 million total viewers. Unfortunately, viewership fell even lower from there.
Despite the ratings, NBC ordered a full season of episodes, likely because the network needed the original programming. Though NBC’s Primetime Entertainment President Angela Bromstad said she liked the show creatively, she noted that the show’s ratings had to improve for it to survive.
The ratings didn’t improve. The most recent episode attracted only a 1.1 rating in the demo and 4.01 million viewers.
To no surprise, the Mercy TV show’s now been cancelled. The 22nd and final episode aired last Wednesday, May 12th. Unfortunately, it wasn’t intended to be a series finale and didn’t wrap up the show.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Mercy won’t be back for season two? What would you have liked to have seen happen?

NBC, are you listening??? Trauma and Mercy are about the only thing on our network worth watching. Guess just have to totally tune out now.
My husband and I LOVED Mercy! We watched it every week. I really wish they have kept it. Maybe another network will pick it up since the people at NBC are such idiots!
Thanks to NBC and its Execs. who continually cancel good tv programs because they think
they aren’t getting good enough ratings? Where are they getting their info. Not from the
heart of the country that watches TV? These are all good tv programs, we watch them!
Mercy and Trauma and its cast of characters are great, their are plenty of viewers…leave them on for another season and let it develop some more……..imagine the possibilities.
I’m very disappointed NBC decided to cancel Mercy. It wasn’t just another hospital drama. The characters were fresh and likeable, while making you want to tear your hair out in frustration with their very human poor decisions.
The show had a lot of heart, and I looked forward to every new episode. I was stunned to learn it had been unceremoniously dumped.
NBC may soon be known as Neverending Bad Choices.
I agree with everyone else. This show was amazing and I loved it. I watched every eposide without fail. I am very upset that they pulled the plug and left so many loose ends. They should film one more eposide to finalize things. What happened to Chris did he survive the attack at the airport? Did Mike survive the car accident? Will Veronica ever find peace and happiness? Will Sonia charges be cleared? Will Joe be able to raise the money and keep his liscense? There is too much left to guess what would happen. I am very angry at… Read more »
I really enjoyed Mercy. What the heck is wrong with NBC? I’m upset!!
This show was soo meaningfull and i don’t understand why cancelled a show that a decent amount of people watched soo what if not a whole lot of people watched it….people who did loved it and are now really upset that you guys cancelled it. You guys will losse alot of viewrers for this!! Just please put the show back on….Mercy was a great show please put a season 2!!!!! PLEASE
Im was so mad to hear that Mercy was cancelled…..this is my favorite show and its not fair to other people who liked the show!! just pease NBC put it back on air…alot of people who watched the show liked it! and its true, youll lose alot of viewers for this!!!!!!!!!!! MERCY IS THE BEST SHOW
I feel so sad that we will never know the end. I recoreded this show on my DVR every week so that I wouldn’t miss a beat…now I have to miss the whole end:( I sure wish they would bring it back!
I am still in the niche that counts, (18 -49 male)……I turn 49 this month…. and I really liked Mercy. The characters were believable the plot lines worked well and it was …on occasion very funny.
TNT…Mr. Turner, do yourself and us fans a big favor, pick up this show…and let it grow. you will be happy you did .
Mercy and Trauma were the only shows worth even turning the channel to NBC. Now, with the cancelation of both the shows, there will be no reason to even turn it on. Has NBC ever considered that it isnt the shows, but rather the network that is causing the decline in viewers?
I can not believe that they ended Mercy! I absolutely love mercy!!! I wish that they would at least do one more show to tie up some loose ends! You can’t leave us hanging they way that you have!
NBC doesn’t care about anyone but its urban 25-44 demographic. It’s not about quality, it’s about advertisers and revenue. That’s the simple reality and it’s why I rarely watch network TV anymore. NBC is the worst of the four major networks for this. It believes NYC is the center of the universe. Guess what: it isn’t. Mercy wasn’t a great program but it had aspirations and possibilities — it developed its characters and was actually starting to pull itself together as a series. Its loss signals my likely permanent departure from the world of broadcast television. It was already bad… Read more »
I am SOOOOOO flippen pissed !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! this is my favorite show off all time and they gave it no justice axing it before letting the cliff hangers play out. I MEAN AT LEAST LET ONE EPISODE IN TO FIX IT AND DO IT GOOD. I SAY BOYCOT!!!!!!!!! I wont watch this channel ever again I garantee you that. I WANT AT LEAST ONE MORE EPISODE!
I can’t believe Mercy has been cancelled. Now we have no idea how this would have ended. I loved the show personally. I actually watched it and Trauma. NBC will lose many viewers by doing this. Please NBC at least tie up the lose ends for those of us who loved the show!
