At the start of the season, we wondered which new NBC medical drama had the best chance at survival — Mercy or Trauma. It was hard to decide but now, they’ve both been cancelled anyway.
Mercy follows the lives of three very different nurses at Mercy Hospital in Jersey City. The cast includes Taylor Schilling, Jaime Lee Kirchner, Michelle Trachtenberg, James Tupper, Diego Klattenhoff, Guillermo Diaz, James LeGros, James Van Der Beek, and Delroy Lindo.
The medical drama got off to a pretty poor start last September, attracting a 2.3 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic and 8.25 million total viewers. Unfortunately, viewership fell even lower from there.
Despite the ratings, NBC ordered a full season of episodes, likely because the network needed the original programming. Though NBC’s Primetime Entertainment President Angela Bromstad said she liked the show creatively, she noted that the show’s ratings had to improve for it to survive.
The ratings didn’t improve. The most recent episode attracted only a 1.1 rating in the demo and 4.01 million viewers.
To no surprise, the Mercy TV show’s now been cancelled. The 22nd and final episode aired last Wednesday, May 12th. Unfortunately, it wasn’t intended to be a series finale and didn’t wrap up the show.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Mercy won’t be back for season two? What would you have liked to have seen happen?

I am SOOOO disappointed (again) in NBC! Mercy is a GREAT show filled with flawed characters trying to do the right thing. We become vested in such characters because they are real to us and we are hopeful that they will prevail. Who doesn’t love Veronica? We are all applauding her for finally seeking help and cheering her on! It’s a damn good show an a shame that NBC is cancelling it. I hope a cable channel picks it up…they are so much more progressive anyway. You left us with a cliffhanger and no closure–bad move on your part. You… Read more »
trauma and now mercy!!! i am no longer watching anything on your network
This is very discouraging- the ending was not an ending- NBC is truly failing its veiwership- bring Mercy back.
Mercy and Trauma are are shows worth watching. NBC again proves why they do not have a clue.
This is ridiculas. This is a great show!!!!!!! I am so sad that they cancelled it
if they wanted to cancel Mercy the should of at least show all the season and the finale since they are already have them on tape they should finish what they start
I cannot believe you are canceling Mercy. It is such a great show. I love the actors and plot. Please bring it back! I am so upset that you would end it this way!
I am so upset that NBC has decided to cancel Mercy! Who is calling the shots at NBC programming? This is why NBC cannot be a leader in programming anymore, they give you a new show to get hooked on and then they cancel it, not a good move. I hope another network picks up Mercy. How can they give you such a cliffhanger and then cancel the show? Sorry I just can’t comprehend. Please bring Mercy back! Or let another network pick it up.
this was my show sooo very sad it has to end like this TNT pick it up like you did southland i neeed to know what happens
Boeh! Mercy is (was) a great show! I loved it. And as some people already pointed out: I hope so too that some other network will pick up this show.
MY gosh I finally get on show on NBC that I like and they cancel it. NBC is going to the pooper. 1 season doesn’t even give a show time to get viewers. Booo to you NBC for another cancelled show that was good. At least the other networks give their shows two seasons.
I liked Mercy, but I can’t say I’m surprised. They never had the ratings, they never had the network backing, and the season finale was chock-full of “please don’t cancel us” cliffhangers.
NBC I have cancelled YOU!!!!
Canceling Mercy already? Hello!!!! This is the part in a new show where the 4mil of us who watched the cliffhanger finale like to run and tell our friends, family, and co-workers about it. This show had such unique characters that set it apart from other humdrum medical dramas. I truly believe it had a good future ahead even with its shaky start. How foolish to cancel it in its infancy. Nice going again NBC, have we learned nothing from the Conan fiasco????
I am sooo angry that NBC would cancel Mercy!!! I will no longer invest time and energy in watching a NBC drama series because they will just pull the rug from right under us. They get us all involved and invested in a series then do not even give us a proper finale!! I AM SOOO UPSET WITH NBC!!
