At the start of the season, we wondered which new NBC medical drama had the best chance at survival — Mercy or Trauma. It was hard to decide but now, they’ve both been cancelled anyway.
Mercy follows the lives of three very different nurses at Mercy Hospital in Jersey City. The cast includes Taylor Schilling, Jaime Lee Kirchner, Michelle Trachtenberg, James Tupper, Diego Klattenhoff, Guillermo Diaz, James LeGros, James Van Der Beek, and Delroy Lindo.
The medical drama got off to a pretty poor start last September, attracting a 2.3 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic and 8.25 million total viewers. Unfortunately, viewership fell even lower from there.
Despite the ratings, NBC ordered a full season of episodes, likely because the network needed the original programming. Though NBC’s Primetime Entertainment President Angela Bromstad said she liked the show creatively, she noted that the show’s ratings had to improve for it to survive.
The ratings didn’t improve. The most recent episode attracted only a 1.1 rating in the demo and 4.01 million viewers.
To no surprise, the Mercy TV show’s now been cancelled. The 22nd and final episode aired last Wednesday, May 12th. Unfortunately, it wasn’t intended to be a series finale and didn’t wrap up the show.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Mercy won’t be back for season two? What would you have liked to have seen happen?

AHH NO. the way they ended this season is unecceptable to end a series. I AM DYING TO KNOW what happened to mike! seriously! who do i need to write to ask to get this back
I cannot believe this show is cancelled – just give it a little more time and try promoting it more. The very least they could have done was “tie” up all the loose ends!!!
The networks are out of touch!
Perhaps if you take into consideration that we all have DVR’s – we tape the show!!!!
OMG!!! I can’t believe Mercy has been cancelled… I t was a great show with an interesting storyline and great characters… It should have came back!!!!
OMG – no way! Mercy is such a great show.. perhaps another network that KNOWS what’s good, will pick it up.
Okay what the crap! I am SOOO fed up with NBC! Seriously, as other people have said, they are waaaay to hasty on canceling shows! It frustrates me even more when they keep canceling shows on a cliff hanger. At LEAST have a ‘closing episode’. My husband and I have vowed to stop watching NBC shows. It’s not worth getting into a good show (ex/ Mercy, Life, many others) just to see them get kicked of the air time and time again.
They need to give shows a chance. Quit taking all the good one away. I reaaly like Mercy. Hate now the way they left the show since i couldnot wait till new season. Guess thats not happening. ;(
NOO!!! YOU CAN’T CANCEL MERCY!!! I’m in the demographic, 26 , and I WANT it BACK! BOO. Now I want to boycott NBC. This a good show. Much better than the other options, and now I feel cheated. Not good.
I am so disappointed that NBC has cancelled Mercy! The show was great, the characters were awesome! Just when you get yourself involved with these shows, its gets cancelled. I really hope that maybe it will still get picked up, the last episode really left you hanging and I would really love to see what happens.
4 million viewers isn’t enough? Really NBC?
Why would they cancel Mercy? like of all shows that show was so great its amazing what a shame for NBC they sure don’t know how to keep shows on but keep other dumb ones on. Im soooo disappointed I would love to see it get picked up by USA maybe play after Hawthorne too.
I loved the show it’s really sad that’s it’s been cancelled. maybe they would have had more people watching it, it we always new when it was on! some weeks there wasn’t anything on. other weeks there was reruns on and the following weeks there was a new show on, then the next couple of weeks it would go back to no shows only we knew for shure that mercy was on every week! but when i did see them on i watched them. i loved the show, i hope they bring them back!
I cannot believe they cancelled Mercy! I loved that show! NBC never give show much of a chance. They leave them on just long enough for people to get interested, then they pull them off the air! Not all shows have to be comedies.
OMG Mercy was great show! NBC has canceled so many dramas over the years…Friday Night Lights, American Dreams. It’s like if it’s not a comedy they say “gone”. Well this NBC have lost myself and my husband as viewers.
Maybe if they keep loosing viewers across the board they will start to realize
A. keep shows on at consistant dates/time
B. give shows a chance to get a following
C.they should keep/bring back great shows because reality CRAP is not worth the time!
Mercy IS a great show bring it back!
What a shame! I may never watch another show on NBC! I loved all the characters in Mercy and the dyamics between them were wonderful. It is just GOOD! Most of the shows I watch are on USA (characters welcome). And I don’t miss them b/c I have them programmed to record. Perhaps USA will pick up Mercy; it is a perfect place for it.
Mercy was an excellent show. It had so much potential to get better and better. I wish they would have at least kept it as a mid-season replacement.
