Becca Winstone’s chase is over. ABC has cancelled Missing, their Thursday night TV series, after one season and 10 episodes.
Starring Ashley Judd, Missing follows a former CIA Agent turned single mom as she searches for her missing son in Europe. The action show also stars Adriano Giannini, Nick Eversman, Cliff Curtis, Tereza Voriskova, and Sean Bean.
Missing got off to a disappointing start on March 15th, registering a 2.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 10.60 million viewers. It was in third place for the demo and second place in total viewership.
In week two, the numbers took a significant drop, to a 1.6 rating with 8.81 million. Over the next several weeks, Missing fell lower and lower. The most recent episode hit a new low with a 1.1 demo rating and 6.37 million total viewers.

Overall, Missing’s been averaging a 1.5 rating with 7.70 million viewers. If they had more episodes in the season, those averages would surely keep sinking lower.
On our ABC Ratings Report Card, which measures the relative demo success of TV shows on the network, Missing has a “D-” for a grade. Of the 22 scripted shows on the network this season, Missing ranks 21st — just above the already-cancelled Charlie’s Angels remake.
With low ratings and steep declines, it’s no wonder that ABC decided not to renew Missing for a second season.
The series finale airs next Thursday and will hopefully include enough closure to satisfy the viewers that stuck with it.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Missing has been cancelled? Why do you think the show didn’t succeed? How long should have the show realistically lasted — one season, two, three or more?

Why do u cancel good shows!!!! Really love Ashley!!!!!
ABC has canceled so many good shows. Lets not forget October Road, Human Target and most recently Chicago Code. Missing is just another good show that got a bad deal from ABC. I have checked the line up for fall 2012 and there is nothing listed that will cause me to watch ABC.
I think it was the time it came on. Most dramas start at 8pm not 7pm. Some people aren’t even home from work yet. I think that was the problem, because the show was excellent. I think they should’ve at least tried another time slot and run it for one more season. I even liked the story line. LOVED IT! And will miss it terribly. Thursday nights will never be the same!! 🙁 And I agree with the person about how many great shows they cancel.
I am so disappointed that “Missing” has been cancelled. This has been the best show on TV. I wouldn’t miss an episode. It needs another chance. Maybe there was not enough advertising about it before it started. I have several friends that had never heard about it until I told them that it was so good. It was like reading a good book, you just wanted it to go on and on. The scenery was great and Ashley Judd and the rest of the cast were excellent and so convincing in their rolls. I hope it can return sometime.
I cannot believe they are cancelling this show! My husband and I watch it religiously! We are so tired of all of the reality shows and really love this one. Ashley Judd is a great actress and is so believable in the role. I really hope another network (CBS, Fox, NBC) pick it up. Who is making these decisions? Probably the same ones who keep The Bachelor/Bachelorette, Wife Swap, etc on…
I am so upset they are taking this show of the air. For what another stupid reality show im sure !!!
I am very sad that ABC is canceling Missing!! This is a quality show with excellent actors and a great story line! I looked forward to Thursday night tv because of this show. The action/drama and foreign locations make it feel like I’m watching a movie each week. You have a bigger audience and demographic than you think…….not all people can watch the show on the night it airs, many use services like HULU and ROKU and view it a day or so after it airs.
Come on USA, FOX, TNT…… SAVE THIS SHOW!!!!!
I love this show. I am very upset that they are cancelling it!
BIG MISTAKE !!! This kept me happy after 24 was taken from us!!!
Ashley Judd was awesome and I planned my week around this show!!!! Boooooooo on that decision by ABC
I AM VERY UPSET ABOUT ( MISSING) BEING CANCELLED. IN ALL OF IDOLS YEARS I NEVER MISSED THE LAST NIGHT OF RESULTS UNTIL MISSING CAME ON.
This is one of the best shows on TV. The network should try cancelling some of the reality shows…they’re just garbage. Missing is one of the best shows on TV in many years. I don’t watch anything else on ABC…nothing else worth watching.
I am so dissapointed the show has been cancelled. It has such a great exciting plot. I will NEVER understand why so many people prefer those stupid reality shows, no plot no story, no brainers. We need shows like Missing. Bring it back.
Why would they cancel “Missing” this show has a large following and is something that is acutually worth watching and entertaining. I find very little to watch on televison anymore as the majority of it is trash. What are they think????
My kids, ages 18 and 15yrs, and I look forward to watching Missing every week. It has kept us on our toes for weeks… We just cannot get enough! What a huge disappointment!!
It was an excellent show and kept you in suspense. Much better than other shows that last and last and are boring. I am dissapointed with this decision on the part of the execs at ABC. They did not give the show a chance. Also, the time that it aired was not a good time for the audience that is interested in that show. It should have been at 10PM and it probably would have been a big hit. Stupid reality shows are the takers and it is a shame. I agree that perhaps another network will be smart enough… Read more »
