Becca Winstone’s chase is over. ABC has cancelled Missing, their Thursday night TV series, after one season and 10 episodes.
Starring Ashley Judd, Missing follows a former CIA Agent turned single mom as she searches for her missing son in Europe. The action show also stars Adriano Giannini, Nick Eversman, Cliff Curtis, Tereza Voriskova, and Sean Bean.
Missing got off to a disappointing start on March 15th, registering a 2.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 10.60 million viewers. It was in third place for the demo and second place in total viewership.
In week two, the numbers took a significant drop, to a 1.6 rating with 8.81 million. Over the next several weeks, Missing fell lower and lower. The most recent episode hit a new low with a 1.1 demo rating and 6.37 million total viewers.

Overall, Missing’s been averaging a 1.5 rating with 7.70 million viewers. If they had more episodes in the season, those averages would surely keep sinking lower.
On our ABC Ratings Report Card, which measures the relative demo success of TV shows on the network, Missing has a “D-” for a grade. Of the 22 scripted shows on the network this season, Missing ranks 21st — just above the already-cancelled Charlie’s Angels remake.
With low ratings and steep declines, it’s no wonder that ABC decided not to renew Missing for a second season.
The series finale airs next Thursday and will hopefully include enough closure to satisfy the viewers that stuck with it.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Missing has been cancelled? Why do you think the show didn’t succeed? How long should have the show realistically lasted — one season, two, three or more?

What a great show and what a terrible way to end it. I really hope ABC will reconsider making a season 2. It got me hooked from the start.
Unbelievable this series is ending. Watch lots of series. This one finally caught me till the end. Why continue bad series? This one has a great cast, a perfect world tour and a good plot. Please reconsider to make a second season.
Liked the show very much, very disappointed it was cancelled!!!
I am so upset that this show has been cancelled. I couldnt wait for it to be aired again…..Other great shows have been cancelled as well, namely, may not be ABC, Unforgetable, CSI Miami, The Gifted Man and a few others that only ran 1 season…..Ugh, there is nothing much to watch anymore other than cooking shows….
The show just started here in The Netherlands and because we cannot wait we have availed the full season from the net and watched it full straight, admired (as always) Ashley Judd and the rest of the cast, amazed and enjoyed seeing the featured spots in the different EU countries while the action and drama revolves. Appreciated the show in entirety- at last a serie that shows locations in different countries. Yesterday, my husband went to his physiotherapist and guess what? – his physiotherapist couldn’t stop talking about the show Missing which just started on tv. We are VERY dissappointed… Read more »
This is an awesome show. So disappointed to know the show is ending. Well written plot, good actors, and a tight pace.
Have been home ill for the past two days and watched the series on DVD. I truly enjoyed it and was looking for season 2 on DVD only to find out that this cool show was cancelled. That is so diasappointing and wonder why producers (Ashley Judd) doesn’t fight for it. ABC SHOULD reconsider for sure.
What a ridiculous decision!!!! In my age group (over 49) many of my family & friends watched & then had conversation, made predictions, etc and of course, loved the “thrill” of the chase. And of course the great act ing of Ashley Judd…… What’s out there on TV for our age group…..the mindless so called comedies are not funny and there s t oo many reality junk shoes……drama is where a viewer gets connected……who makes these stupid decisions??? Everbody shoul protest & start a campaign….maybe another network will pick it up…if anyone reading this has any pull please forward to the TV… Read more »
I feel it was a show to rival 24 which was my all time favorite show. I am truly saddened to find it will not be back. I hope we are not left hanging. Hopefully a cable network that has programming execs with a vision will pick it up. Let’s all hpoe
I cannot believe they took this show off the air. Ashley judd is an amazing actress. I love all movies she plays in. I agree with the other comments that it was not given enough publicity. I loved it …the action and drama …kept me wanting more. I did not want it to end. They should of left it for another season. I believe the numbers would ahve increased. Please put it back on.
My whole family is so sad that it isn’t coming back! We loved that show.
One other thought….the article discussing the shows ratings states that they are hoping the ending was enough to satisfy its viewers…not even close….the ending did nothing but set us up for another season….there was no closure what-so-ever in the last episode….good gosh, how hard is it to see that. I mean come on, the son is finally found, just to have the parents disappear! If that’s closure, then then the person writing the story has no business with a pen and paper….find a different career……like jobs for idiots.
I was so excited thinking the new season would be starting soon, just to find out, yet another of my favorite shows is being cancelled. This is why I dont watch tv much….people get into a show and because of rediculous number counting of viewers shows are then cancelled. The only way to get a correct number would be to ask every household of their viewings. While that may be impossible, the theory of basing how well a show is liked the way these people do it is absentminded, and not accurate in the least.
Loved the show, just found out it is not comming back!! I am very sad!!!!!!!!!! You guys and gals need to stop with the way you rate the shows…..most people watch on their own time using the dvr, internet , etc…..you are not getting the correct % of veiwers with your methods…….this is why so many good shows are taking off the air!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OMG…we…(my four children, husband, and I) have been looking forward to the return of Missing…WHAT a disappointment that it will NOT return…TV will be MISSING a fantastic show!!! BRING IT BACK!!!
