Becca Winstone’s chase is over. ABC has cancelled Missing, their Thursday night TV series, after one season and 10 episodes.
Starring Ashley Judd, Missing follows a former CIA Agent turned single mom as she searches for her missing son in Europe. The action show also stars Adriano Giannini, Nick Eversman, Cliff Curtis, Tereza Voriskova, and Sean Bean.
Missing got off to a disappointing start on March 15th, registering a 2.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 10.60 million viewers. It was in third place for the demo and second place in total viewership.
In week two, the numbers took a significant drop, to a 1.6 rating with 8.81 million. Over the next several weeks, Missing fell lower and lower. The most recent episode hit a new low with a 1.1 demo rating and 6.37 million total viewers.

Overall, Missing’s been averaging a 1.5 rating with 7.70 million viewers. If they had more episodes in the season, those averages would surely keep sinking lower.
On our ABC Ratings Report Card, which measures the relative demo success of TV shows on the network, Missing has a “D-” for a grade. Of the 22 scripted shows on the network this season, Missing ranks 21st — just above the already-cancelled Charlie’s Angels remake.
With low ratings and steep declines, it’s no wonder that ABC decided not to renew Missing for a second season.
The series finale airs next Thursday and will hopefully include enough closure to satisfy the viewers that stuck with it.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Missing has been cancelled? Why do you think the show didn’t succeed? How long should have the show realistically lasted — one season, two, three or more?

OMG, I could not wait each week to see what was going to happen. I am so sad and mad that they would cancel such a good show. I love Ashley Judd and she was great in this. I want to know what happened to her in the last episode.
I can’t believe you canceled Missing!!!!! It is one of the best shows on TV! I couldn’t wait for the next show as it kept me in suspense each episode. It is much better entertaiment than all those fixed, fake “reality” shows and talent shows. Much better entertainment than the non funny sitcoms. Please bring it back and add more entertaining shows like it back to TV.
Just heard that Missing was cancelled. This was the best new show of the season. It was
an edge of your seat thriller. Reminded me of the ” Fugitive” you never knew how each
episode was going to end. ABC should have attempted to move its times slot or been
more agressive advertising it. The finale was fantastic, was so looking forward to next season. Perhaps the show will be picked up by USA or TNT both have better shows than
ABC, they can pick winners and stick with them.
I think missing was a great show. I’m 16 and Im a not big tv person so for me to watch something it has to be good and this show was. My mom even liked the show and all she watch Is the news. It sucks that the show is cancelled but it’s up to the viewers so I can’t get mad at the producer because there wasn’t enough viewers watching but I wouldn’t want anything to change in the show I thought it was perfect. But oh we’ll I guess….
I can’t believe you cancelled Missing. It kept me in suspense and I thought the acting was very good. What’s with you ABC, you cancelled my soap, One Life to Live, now Missing? Guess you’re filling in with another stupid reality show. We get hooked on a good show and you take it away. Pretty soon no one will watch ABC .
I am a over 50 who loved this show…it should have been aimed at the baby boomers, and at a better time slot. Decent marketing and a better time slot would have been great. Closure would have been awesom too. Grrr.
I am so sad, this has been the best series that started this year. It was the reason my husband and I sat together for one hour on Thursday nights. This show had no publicity, no advertisement…it mezmorizes you as in the show 24 hours. I am so sad to learn this and if opinions matter, maybe they can look here at all the comments and reconsider. We were addicted to the ever moving plot. So well done, please give it another shot!!!
ONE OF THE BETTER SHOWS. NEED TO LET SHOWS RIDE IT OUT A LITTLE LONGER, GIVE WORD OF MOUTH GET AROUND. MY HUSBAND AND I LOVE THE SHOW AND IT GOT BETTER EPISODE AFTER EPISODE. REALLY UPSET IT IS BEING CANCELLED
Missing was one of the best shows on ABC. I didn’t see alot of commercials about the show i just so happened caught the first show and was hooked ever since. I think the show deserves a second season. The cast and the story line was great.
“MISSING” was one of the very few shows that my husband and I would watch together and talk about. It was sooooo good. All the actors were phenomenal and the locations in Europe were stunning. I’ve never written about a show that has been cancelled, but this time I’m really bummed!!! Please bring it back, ABC!!!!! Now my husband will go back to sleeping in his recliner.
A really well done show. Got better as it progressed. Needed PR and a better timeslot. Bring it back-for those of us with taste!
Missing was one of the better series introduced. Several 50 plus non ABC viewers friends of ours watched due to our recommendation. My office staff would discuss each episode and loved the show. AB C you made a mistake. Bring it back next Spring…the seniors loved this show…and want to know what happened to Rebecca’s W.
This was a great series! Are you kidding me? ABC is out of their mind! Bring it back! Bring it back!
I am disappointed that not only did they cancel this show, but couldn’t bear to have them have even a hint of a happy ending. If the ratings were indeed that bad, and you had intentions of cancelling this show, then why not wait, have a good ending for the lowly loyal fans, and then if you pick it up next year, start it with the Becca getting pinched. The reason people aren’t loyal to your shows is you’re not loyal to your viewers.
ARE THEY OUT OF THEIR MINDS???? One of the best shows we have ever watched!!! Could hardly wait a week to see the next episode.
