Becca Winstone’s chase is over. ABC has cancelled Missing, their Thursday night TV series, after one season and 10 episodes.
Starring Ashley Judd, Missing follows a former CIA Agent turned single mom as she searches for her missing son in Europe. The action show also stars Adriano Giannini, Nick Eversman, Cliff Curtis, Tereza Voriskova, and Sean Bean.
Missing got off to a disappointing start on March 15th, registering a 2.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 10.60 million viewers. It was in third place for the demo and second place in total viewership.
In week two, the numbers took a significant drop, to a 1.6 rating with 8.81 million. Over the next several weeks, Missing fell lower and lower. The most recent episode hit a new low with a 1.1 demo rating and 6.37 million total viewers.

Overall, Missing’s been averaging a 1.5 rating with 7.70 million viewers. If they had more episodes in the season, those averages would surely keep sinking lower.
On our ABC Ratings Report Card, which measures the relative demo success of TV shows on the network, Missing has a “D-” for a grade. Of the 22 scripted shows on the network this season, Missing ranks 21st — just above the already-cancelled Charlie’s Angels remake.
With low ratings and steep declines, it’s no wonder that ABC decided not to renew Missing for a second season.
The series finale airs next Thursday and will hopefully include enough closure to satisfy the viewers that stuck with it.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Missing has been cancelled? Why do you think the show didn’t succeed? How long should have the show realistically lasted — one season, two, three or more?

A great story with realistic intregue within our legal system, but how long can you play hide and seek with your kids? I think it is a one season story plot. But it has to be played to a logical conclution or I’m going to get sick of the bitter defeat secenes.
Best show, writing, acting on t.v. for many years. This is a show someone should fight for. If you keep it on the air it will be as big as Dexter on Showtime.
It is a sad day in TV when you have an exciting show and gets cancelled in favor of the garbage that is ‘reality tv’. Good writing has been deposed and the illiterate conquer the air waves…:(. If Family Guy can be brought back from cancelation so should “Missing”
This show was terrific. Excellent acting and plot. I think the reason it didn’t catch on yet was just that there wasn’t enough time for word of mouth to get around. Everyone I know who saw it thought it was great. Please give it another year!!!!
Best show on tv, smart, great acting
Sorry to hear that Missing was cancelled. Probably the BEST SHOW OF THE SEASON!
Missing was an awesome show! Action packed, well written… The fault of poor ratings is the network. They did not promo the series enough to get the viewers. I just happened upon the show. I then saw a couple of short commercials. I have seen other series’ get far more promotion. It’s like they wanted it to fail. Same thing happened to the series “Firefly”.
We are really sad to hear that this great show has been cut. It was a great show and an exciting story line. Sad, how silly nonsense shows stay and good shows like this one is cut. This is the very reason, we hesitate to even start watching new series, why risk the chance of liking it just to have it removed.
bring missing back
PLEASE, some other network pick up this magnificent show! Ashley Judd moved me to tears when she collapsed on the runway, and again when Michael was found. And what an ending – WE NEED ANOTHER SEASON!!! I am so ticked it was cancelled, but Scandal wasn’t???
We can’t believe that you cancelled Missing. Great show, love Ashley Judd and the cast. Bring it back.
It had a great start I remember ABC rating said that it was a great hit, a ton of people I know got hooked on show, now whats up. It was one of the few shows that was any good, in fact the shows I got hooked on they are taking off. I don’t like most of the programs reality crap, all the music shows voice, idol etc its old and boring to bad its really more about how much show cost than the mindless crap on TV now.
Thank goodness its summer and no need to watch TV.
Both and husband and I (in our 60’s) enjoyed Missing. One of the bright new shows. The ending certainly didn’t finalized anything. What a shame. Bring it back!
So disappointing this was cancelled. As well as other viewers said, this was the only show my husband and I cared to watch. I’m tired of networks cancelling shows prematurely, it makes me want to stop watching tv all together with fear that I’ll get caught up watching another show only for it to be cancelled. I loved Terra Nova, on Fox, and they cancelled it too. So tired of this, I think they need to give shows a two season run opportunity.
i agree terra nova was classic material i loved that show and missing i havent been that excited about TV since prison break and 24 they need to bring it back or another network should pick it up
MISSING WAS WITHOUT A DOUBT THE BEST NEW SHOW TO AIR THIS YEAR.
A B C HOW STUPID CAN YOU BE TO CANCEL THIS SHOW? THIS ALL WE TALK ABOUT HERE IN THE OFFICE. DO THE RIGHT THING PUT IT BACK ON FOR NEXT SEASON!!!!!
What a LOSS…..With all the crap on TV… “Missing” brought a breath of fresh air to Thursday nights….It kept me spellbound through all of the episodes….I Thought Ashley Judd did Awesome job…..Sorry to see it go…
