Becca Winstone’s chase is over. ABC has cancelled Missing, their Thursday night TV series, after one season and 10 episodes.
Starring Ashley Judd, Missing follows a former CIA Agent turned single mom as she searches for her missing son in Europe. The action show also stars Adriano Giannini, Nick Eversman, Cliff Curtis, Tereza Voriskova, and Sean Bean.
Missing got off to a disappointing start on March 15th, registering a 2.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 10.60 million viewers. It was in third place for the demo and second place in total viewership.
In week two, the numbers took a significant drop, to a 1.6 rating with 8.81 million. Over the next several weeks, Missing fell lower and lower. The most recent episode hit a new low with a 1.1 demo rating and 6.37 million total viewers.

Overall, Missing’s been averaging a 1.5 rating with 7.70 million viewers. If they had more episodes in the season, those averages would surely keep sinking lower.
On our ABC Ratings Report Card, which measures the relative demo success of TV shows on the network, Missing has a “D-” for a grade. Of the 22 scripted shows on the network this season, Missing ranks 21st — just above the already-cancelled Charlie’s Angels remake.
With low ratings and steep declines, it’s no wonder that ABC decided not to renew Missing for a second season.
The series finale airs next Thursday and will hopefully include enough closure to satisfy the viewers that stuck with it.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Missing has been cancelled? Why do you think the show didn’t succeed? How long should have the show realistically lasted — one season, two, three or more?

I just heard about this television show yesterday and WHAT??? You’re telling me it’s already been canceled??? I didn’t even know it existed–was the promotion for this show non-existant? So not cool! I am HOOKED–and 10 episodes, really? That’s all the viewers get to decide if a show is ‘good enough’? Not even 10 episodes…they probably already decided it’s fate after the first episode aired. Missing was a thriller–hopefully another station picks it up–it will be HUGE!
Truly cannot believe this action-packed, well-acted series is gone, yet mindless drivel remains. Who constitutes the bulk of demographics? All of my baby boomer friends were hooked on this one. First, Prime Suspect–what a gritty, clever cop show full of completely believable characters and interesting plots goes by the wayside, then Missing. Really feeling network TVhas lost its mind. It is certainly losing its viewership. Won’t some other network pick these up?
Cancelling Missing is totally wrong!!! Very good show, kept you on the edge of your seat every week. I can’t believe it has not been renewed. Goes to show you that the ratings don’t amount to anything to the real people of america. Everyone I know loves this show. Very bad decision on ABCs part. Hopefully, some other station will pick it up and continue the series.
Excellent show. Excellent actors – good plot. Good grief Charlie Brown – use your head – you put it in a wrong time slot……you apparently wanted it to fail……new shows should not be put in the same time slot as established series. They are doomed before they get off the ground. Never had a chance – poor management I think
I looked forward to watching “Missing” every week I even taped the show and rewatched it. Please reconsider and bring back the show. It is One of the BEST on Television.
Please bring it back for another season and see if it does better for all of us viewers that are hooked, this is all about family and reuniting them and then you have these raunchy shows airing with swears that are distasteful and this was none of that….
ARe you serious!!!!3 viewers right here that were hooked instantly and looked forward to Thursday nites just to watch this show… We were hooked after my son’s Nana told us about it and we watched all DVR’d shows right in a row just to get caught up and never missed one after that… If I did miss it I would catch up the next day on HULU and believe me I couldn’t wait just to see it. This show captures your attention and is edge of your seat action till the very end. I don’t feel many people had enough… Read more »
Really? What happened to Becca when she was shot in the car? How will we find out if you discontinue the show?
i am SO DISAPPOINTED that Missing has been cancelled. I LOVE the cast and the show and there are so many ways to keep the story going – what are they thinking cancelling this show?? how about getting rid of the reality crap and keeping the good shows!
Have television producers and executives become as mindless as the “reality” shows they inundate the airwaves with? Missing is undoubtedly one of the most powerful series to be introduced. Please bring it back.

I’m not 100% sure how ABC could cancel a show like this and leave us with that kind of ending.
Another, SMARTER, network needs to pick this up again. Cougar Town was picked up by TBS so I think Missing deserves that same respect.
I Agree with all of the above comments, also why the hell would you leave a series unresolved? If ABC were pro they’d let it wrap itself up for all of us viewers that it mattered to. What the hell ever happened to real entertainment and honest networks?
Whatever happened to our American integrity and purpose for why we do what we do?
put the series back on………..
I totally agree with everyone. MISSING was an amazing show with great actors, action and nothing was too over the top as far as graphic violence and ‘wow are they really humping on a park bench’? Now we are stuck with mindless reality shows, stupid sitcoms and newscasts. I don’t know how it is in other states but I remember when I was little here in new york I used to watch cartoons on saturday mornings and my godmother watched soap operas and talks shows in the afternoon. ABC sucks now. Not surprising after they cancelled Brothers and Sisters which… Read more »
Finally, something full of action and suspense, worth watching for a change and it gets cancelled! I was looking forward to the next season. Maybe another network will pick up Missing, since it will be truly missing from ABC! Tired of the dancing and singing shows.
I cannot believe Missing was cancelled. A smart, well-acted story, with incredible scenery and interesting characters. To have Ashley Judd and Sean Bean every week in your home, instead of paying the big bucks to see them on the big screen…what was ABC thinking? Why are so many people wanting to watch “reality” shows and other mindless shows? This was one series that my husband and I actually looked forward to watching. Big mistake.
