Becca Winstone’s chase is over. ABC has cancelled Missing, their Thursday night TV series, after one season and 10 episodes.
Starring Ashley Judd, Missing follows a former CIA Agent turned single mom as she searches for her missing son in Europe. The action show also stars Adriano Giannini, Nick Eversman, Cliff Curtis, Tereza Voriskova, and Sean Bean.
Missing got off to a disappointing start on March 15th, registering a 2.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 10.60 million viewers. It was in third place for the demo and second place in total viewership.
In week two, the numbers took a significant drop, to a 1.6 rating with 8.81 million. Over the next several weeks, Missing fell lower and lower. The most recent episode hit a new low with a 1.1 demo rating and 6.37 million total viewers.

Overall, Missing’s been averaging a 1.5 rating with 7.70 million viewers. If they had more episodes in the season, those averages would surely keep sinking lower.
On our ABC Ratings Report Card, which measures the relative demo success of TV shows on the network, Missing has a “D-” for a grade. Of the 22 scripted shows on the network this season, Missing ranks 21st — just above the already-cancelled Charlie’s Angels remake.
With low ratings and steep declines, it’s no wonder that ABC decided not to renew Missing for a second season.
The series finale airs next Thursday and will hopefully include enough closure to satisfy the viewers that stuck with it.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Missing has been cancelled? Why do you think the show didn’t succeed? How long should have the show realistically lasted — one season, two, three or more?

Let me get this straight. You put a new show on a night and time slot as multiple established shows, you give it no advertising, you give it just 10 episodes, and you know that it is a definite failure. At one time, didn’t networks give shows a chance to build an audience. I would love to see a list of the shows that had poor ratings in their first 10 episodes that later went on to become huge successes. I would bet that list would surprise many people. Finally, how on earth can you not have any closure to… Read more »
Cannot believe this show got cancelled. It was so good. I loved seeing Ashley Judd on TV. Please bring it back. It’s the only show I enjoyed turning the TV on for. I’m sick of reality TV.
That was the only show I looked forward to! I was out of town and missed the finale! I’m very upset!
I am disappointed “Missing” was canceled as I really liked it and looked forward to watching it. I think we should have had the chance to see a conclusion and closure but we were left hanging instead.
What are you talking about, Missing is cancelled, are you nuts.. That was about the best series on TV. NO WAY. I am so sick of reality shows, and commedies I could spit. TWO show I am waiting for to return is Missing and Revenge. I am going to really be upset with tv and I already know some people who are just discontinuing their tv cable services and just renting movies for the same reason, everytime you get interested in a tv show it goes off the air.. It really is sickening. STOP WITH THE REALITY SHOWS AND COMMEDIES,… Read more »
Loved this show. My daughter and I watched this together every Thursday night. Loved Ashley Judd and was looking forward to seeing this next season. How disappointing!!!
I love Ashley Judd…wish the series would continue
Not many shows on TV with great acting and content. This was an awesome show with a unique story line. Thanks Ashley for giving us your best. The network would do well to put your show back on the air. Maybe a different time would have been wiser.
I am so upset that you cancelled Missing. I thought it was one of the best new shows. The acting and writting was perfect. Please bring it back. PLEASE
So disappointed at the choice of canceling Missing . It was by far my favorite show to watch and always kept me wanting to see the next one .
In today’s society there weren’t much shows to even want to turn the tv on to watch . But Missing always kept me wanting to watch it .
I think you are making a big mistake and should give Missing another chance . It deserves it .
The cast was phenomenal, as was EVERY episode .
Please please PLEASE don’t cancel it!!
Cannot believe this show has been cancelled! This show proved to be unpredictable each week with great actors and a suspenseful plot. I am not a fan of the mindless reality shows and yet that is all the networks keep overloading in primetime TV.
The show deserves a second chance….besides most hit TV shows were rarely number 1 in their first few seasons. Bring it back!
It was probably too smart, too well shot, too well acted to survive mainline TV. I watched it on Hulu after I stopped paying for cable. There’s only so much stupid a person can take in. Missing was a refreshing change and Ashley Judd was fantastic. Best line: “Yes, I have changed, I’m a mother.”
if shows keep getting cancelled especially when they re good ones do they think we will bother watching new series when they cancelled after six episodes or a season,…whatever happened to giving things time to grow,..missing a gud show, and am a seriesholic and trust me MISSING was entertaining
Canceled…WHAT????
This show wasn’t given a chance. Unlike the reality shows that require no brain matter, this show was entertaining and kept you thinking and guessing. I guess the majority of television watchers prefer to just sit there and watch angry brides, wealthy celebrity life styles, etc. Something that requires thought is just not of interest. Too bad.
If they weren’t going to renew it, why did they leave us hanging, thinking that Becca was possibly killed and after all of that, why kill her off. Doesn’t make sense to me! I loved the show!
