TNT recently wrapped the first season of Monday Mornings, their latest medical drama. Should it return for a second season or be cancelled instead?
Monday Mornings follows the lives of the talented yet flawed doctors at the Chelsea General Hospital in Portland, Oregon. The title refers to the tough peer review meetings that are run by the hospital’s sarcastic Chief of Staff. The cast includes Ving Rhames, Jamie Bamber, Jennifer Finnigan, Bill Irwin, Keong Sim, Sarayu Rao, Emily Swallow, and Alfred Molina.
The show started off the season with just 1.36 million viewers and a 0.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic. That was less than half of what the Dallas premiere lead-in drew with 2.98 million and a 0.8 demo rating.
The numbers for Monday Mornings didn’t get much better as the weeks wore on. The season ended up averaging just 1.39 million viewers and a 0.3 in the demo.
Given these numbers, it seems highly unlikely that Monday Mornings will be back for a second season.
But what do you think? Would you like to see the show return for a second season or do you think it should be cancelled? Why do you think the show didn’t catch on with a bigger audience? Was the title a problem? What would you have called it?
I enjoyed this show greatly, and so did my family. I looked forward to it every week. True the title is not attractive, but the plots and everything including the acting was phenomenal. I hope we get many more seasons.
I love this show! I came across it by accident, so I really don’t believe that it was advertised enough to get the crowd that it needs to stay on for a 2nd season! Please renew for another season and give it a chance!
”Monday Mornings” is a great show and should be renewed. It is insightful, has heart and some lighthearted moments. It lets the viewer see another side of medicine that is not talked about or shared with the public. The use of the camera shots lends to the intense moments of what ”Monday Mornings” is about and hopefully it will be renewed or picked up by another network. Not everybody wants to watch reality TV or soap operas.
Worse case ALWAYS DEAD!
I will truly miss this show if they let it die.
I think that the TV executives should continue Monday Mornings because it is a quality show instead of the mindless shows that gets the high ratings. Most people only want to watch violence or shows with sexual content. It seems that the executives are not interested in raising the level of the TV programing.
I think Monday mornings is great. It is one of the few Tv shows on right now that really cause me to stop and think. I find myself missing it and the characters. Can’t wait till it comes back on!
One more comment…yes, the title may have been an issue. I do think re-naming may help. Don’t have any ideas at the moment. Plus, I never saw it advertised anyplace. I just happened upon it one night and was hooked. A great show. Great actors. A KEEPER!
What happened? I LOVE Monday Mornings! What a great show. Don’t cancel it!!!!
VERY GOOD and well done show We hope it is renewed
We enjoy Monday Mornings. It is smart and entertaining. Better than most offerings on the tube. The only place we find better programs is on Canadian stations. So USA lets find and keep shows that are worth watching. I vote for Monday Mornings returning.
I hope they continue the show for a second season. It shows doctors being accountable for their actions. The cast is excellent.
I loved it! One of the best I have seen for a long time and seemed so real. We DVR’d every week after we started watching it. Bring it back – give it a chance!
Always looked forward to Monday nights, to watch this program. It will be really sad if it is taken off the air. It was nice to have a show to watch with out sex and violence. Would really like it come back on and not be DEAD!!! Love that part. Get a real kick out of his character.
Most exciting interesting new show I have seen many years. Something that didn’t insult my intelligence, with stupid brainless humor.
I LOVE Monday Mornings! I hope it gets renewed or picked up by another network. It was great to watch a show with substance.
