Here in the states, the Motive TV show can hardly be called a ratings success. However, it’s doing well enough in Canada for CTV to renew it for a third season. Production resumes this fall.
Motive revolves around a strong-willed Vancouver detective (Kristin Lehman) who’s also a single mom. At the start of each episode, viewers are shown the killer and victims. As the criminal investigation progresses, details of what led to the crime are revealved via flashbacks. The rest of the cast includes Louis Ferreira, Lauren Holly, Roger Cross, Brendan Penny, and Cameron Bright.
Though last summer’s ratings weren’t very good, ABC picked up the 13 episodes of season two and they started airing last week. Season two’s ratings have been even worse and it’s currently the network’s lowest-rated summer show.
ABC only licenses the show so it’s cheaper for them than producing their own summer dramas. Could the ratings be poor enough this year so that it wouldn’t make sense for them to air the show, even at a low cost? We shall see.

I am disappointed it is not renewed in U.S. Great show. Shot in a unique way where you feel like you are standing there. Love concept of this show. Hope it is on demand or Netflix.
Compelling characters, plot lines and dialogue. Motive is one of the freshest, most innovative concepts in recent cop show history. Bring out back ABC. And we’ll start watching your network again.

I love Motive! I was so disappointed to find out that it’s not renewed in the US. I’ve been looking forward to it only to find out it’s airing in Canada but not here! Bring it back! Listen to the fans!

I love Motive and hope it comes back for 2015. I think it is a sign of good writing, when you can know from the outset, who did it, and still want to watch.
I have been anxiously waiting for season 3 to be released in the USA. I love the show. I do not understand why the show is low in ratings.

There are so many reasons to love Motive. I absolutely wish it would get picked up and continue on commercial or cable (not premium channel) TV!
Great acting, completely appealing characters, great writing and direction as well as using a different spin on the crime story format. It was one of my favorites.
