At today’s Television Critics Association presentation in Beverly Hills, FX’s president surprised many by announcing that the popular Nip/Tuck series had been cancelled. On the positive side, there are still quite a few new episodes on the way.
Nip/Tuck premiered back on July 22, 2003 and tells the story of two plastic surgeons, Sean McNamara (Dylan Walsh) and Christian Troy (Julian McMahon). The series mixes drama with satire and irreverent humor as the doctors take on often strange cases. Nip/Tuck was initially set in Miami, Florida but the characters moved to Los Angeles at the start of the current season, the show’s fifth. The series was recently praised by the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) for its ongoing use of homosexual characters.
Today, FX president/GM John Landgraf told reporters that the network had ordered 19 episodes for the drama’s sixth, and final, season. That order’s a few less than a traditional TV season but it will bring the series’ installment total to 100 episodes. Series creator Ryan Murphy will stay on board until the end as the showrunner.

When asked about the cancellation, Landgraf noted that he felt it was time and doubted that any FX show would surpass 100 episodes. He said, “If you tried to do 150 episodes of The Sopranos, you would begin to diminish the quality of those shows. The David Chases (The Sopranos) and Shawn Ryans (The Shield), they’re taking on social commentary and grand sweeping questions. If we want to go after that brass ring, we have to accept they have limited shelf life.”
Though the move may be a disappointment to devoted fans of the plastic surgeon series, casual fans won’t realize the show has been axed for some time. There are actually 27 new episodes yet to come. Only 14 episodes of the fifth season have aired thus far with the remaining eight scheduled to begin airing in January. The sixth season is expected to begin running in 2010 and not finish airing until early 2011. Stay tuned! 
I am sooo bummed!!! This show mmad me laugh and kept me guessing all the time!!!! I was totally in love with Christian Troy……what a scream…….he cracked me up….a man that can be that big of an ******* and still have all the ladies want him…..that is some writing……..I definately will be lost on Tuesday nights without my Dr. Troy……very sad….make a movie…..I will be a walk on!!! lol
Great show, always kept me surprised and on my toes!! Never the same old thing! Going to miss Sean, but especially Christian! Why do they have to spread the final episodes out just put them all on so we don’t forget what is going on!
This is sad news to me. Nip tuck is a well writen show with plot lines that you discuss the next day at work. Some of the craziest stories ever on cable tv. I don’t understand the logic of spreading out the final episodes over two years. Why don’t they just finish it this season and look for another network to pick it up. Or we could protest. If my memory serves me, some show on CBS or NBC- Jerico, was canceled and then they brought it back after viewer protest. FX’s line up sucks, so I won’t be watching… Read more »

OMG!! i am totally outraged! i have watched every single episode of this show since it came on.. im heartbroken that this will be cancelled! only good thing is there’s still new episodes to look forward to!! i have to admit it the shows gets freakier and freakier as time goes on but lets just say i can be a freakk too 🙂 LOL! O well.. i have every season availlable on DVD so i should be ok.. at least until the withdrawls go away.. haha! i will truly miss this show!!
This is a total and complete outrage, I lived and breathed this show and cannot imagine life without Christian. I have posters of him in my bedroom, kind of like most people had Sylvester Stallone on their walls in the 80’s. Oh . . . . the insanity, when will it end? Next someone will tell me that The View is going to be cancelled and then I am going to choke myself!
They lost me when they brought in Rosie O’oinker, not entertaining or funny at all and just plain creepy. Couldn’t stand the thought, it ruined Christian for me.Thats when i stopped watching and never went back.. I wonder who she had to pay to get on, when her career was going down the toilet.
I have been watching NIP Tuck since 2005 when a friend intruduced me to it. Every year since I am so ready for the show to air I get excited know it’s about time for it to come on. This year 2009 I noticed the last three weeks it has not been coming on and I decided to see what’s up. If it’s supposed to run into 2010 where are the rest of 2009. Bring it back I live this show.

are you kidding me? why would you cancel this show so early. its an awesme show and i have got all the seasons and i do not want to see it go. its a show that always has you guessing and i love it. please dont take it away. i know there is always a time to cut shows but not this early. let it go for a while longer.

I have enjoyed the show from the beinging. Some of the story lines have left me with my mouth open. I have season the decline in the last two seasons. This last season was way to much with the cancer. Until the last show I was fine with the show not coming back. The ending when we realize Dr Troy isn’t dying made me still hungry and wanting more.
I am so happy this show is being cancelled. I love Nip Tuck and have been watching it since the beginning, but the show has really gone down hill this season. It was a short season too. It’s like they’re running out of good plots. How many more times can we watch Christian and some chick, and how many more times will Sean do some insane thing? the show has been going downhill since last year…no good story lines!
