While some shows are getting orders for additional episodes, Numb3rs has just had its number cut by CBS. How does this bode for the drama’s chances for a seventh season?
As Friday night viewers know, Numb3rs revolves around an FBI agent (Rob Morrow) and his genius brother (David Krumholtz) who helps solve cases with mathematics. The cast also features Judd Hirsch (as their father), Alimi Ballard, Dylan Bruno, Navi Rawat, Aya Sumika, and Peter MacNicol.
The series is currently in its sixth season, having debuted in January 2005. For the show’s entire run, it’s been a staple of CBS’ Friday night schedule in the 10pm position.
In its first season, Numb3rs averaged a 3.2 rating in the demo and 11.1 million viewers. In season two, the show’s ratings rose to an average rating of 3.3 and 11.7 million viewers. Overall viewership has dropped since then. Last season was watched by an average of 9.75 million and the demo was 2.2.

This season however has been a different story. Numb3rs’ numbers are way down. It’s fallen all the way down to a 1.7 rating in the all-important demo. Overall viewership has also dropped to an average of 7.9 million viewers.
If you look at these figures, it’s not hard to understand why CBS has decided to cut this season’s order from 22 to 16 episodes. In addition, the network already has a couple other dramas that can take its place, including Flashpoint — a show that’s cheaper and already proven to work on Friday nights.
What does this mean for Numb3rs’ future and its chances for a seventh season? The episode cut doesn’t mean anything in itself but the ratings that caused it certainly do. The show is already in syndication and, now in its sixth year, the show is quite difficult to produce. Unless the ratings return to their previous level, the show will surely be cancelled.
What do you think? Would you be sorry to see the show cancelled or would you like to watch a seventh season?

I adore Numb3rs and will be very sad to see it go. I think one of the hallmarks of its quality is the fact that it has so many cast changes and still holds. Good writing, directing, and acting with good plots and many great plot arcs have all been a staple to this show. I will miss it. Sniff.
I wait all week for Numb3rs. I enjoy it thoroughly and will be very sorry to see it cancelled. For the rcord I have never watched a “reality” show in my life. They are way too boring and predicatble.
Numbers is one of my favorite shows and I would really hate to see it canceled. Why is it when good shows come on they end up being canceled while all these reality shows are all over the tv? Numbers is a good show with excellent story lines and the cast is great. Save numbers and get rid of so many reality shows.
I have so enjoyed Numb3rs! Kudos for the creators, writers, actors and actresses. I would love it to continue, but mostly I want to say how much apprecation I have for all involved.
They cancel NUMB3RS there wont be a dog gone thing to watch.
I agree, Numb3rs is the high point of Friday night viewing. It’s the only show I watch on Fridays. I’m so disappointed about the shortened season (which I only heard about via a TV promo this week), and will be REALLY bummed out if it gets cancelled.
I love numbers, my husband and I would be very disappointed to see it go off. We wouldn’t have anything else to watch at that 10:oo slot. Please do not cancel the show.
This is a great show and I would really miss it if it were taken off the air. I am getting real tired of good shows being taken off the air and being left with these damn reality shows. Numbers has a great cast that works well together and the story lines are well written as well. Let’s hope this program is around for a while longer.
Numb3ers in a cerebral show that needs to go on for a long time. The idea of using math and really smart individuals to solve crimes is fabulous. How can the number for Numb3ers go down, when shows like Two and a Half Men are scheduled, for certain, for season after season? Sad state of the American public, most of whom seem to prefer drivel, nonsense, and sexual reality over brainpower, insight and perception. Numb3ers is a thinking show, and should continue.
Would hate to see it cancelled- It is the only show I watch during the week! I love Numbers!!
Numbers has texture. A fine ensemble. Believable, interesting shows. A pleasure to watch.
Flashpoint: Boring. “The guy is going to kill everybody unless the Wax Museum-style cast reads their lines and everybody hugs each-other after they talk him down or wast him.” Yuk!
UnderCover Boss. America is stupid. They’ll think it’s real. Plus, we throw-in a warm and fuzzy part. Plus, a part where the Boss finds-out that one guy is a real prick. The mindless idiots we are insulting will be hipp-moe-tized with this ****.
Numbers is one of my favorite shows and I would be very sad if it were canceled. It’s in the same category as Medium, Law and Order, CSI, Lost, 24, and Heroes for me.
If this show is cancelled, it will be such a loss to intelligent viewers. ” Numbers” is one of the few shows that I watch at any time on any channel. The show is a high point in what leisure time I have.
I would be very sorry to see a good show cancelled. There is so much reality crap on TV and very few good dramas anymore. Friday night is one of my favorite nights on TV and mainly due to numbers.
This is the only show that I now watch on Fridays. The only other show I used to watch on Friday was Monk which is no longer on. The lead-in shows are not worth watching. On Fridays, I watch Numb3rs and movies I’ve recorded during the week. And who decided the ratings? I think the networks should put links after each show that’s on so everyone could go vote like American Idol. “If you like this, show, vote for it to remain on the lineup this fall…..” Then we could see the number of people who are really watching instead… Read more »
