After an all-too-brief two season run on ABC, the network cancelled October Road. Viewers were left hanging with lots of unanswered questions. Will Hannah end up with “Big Cat” or Nick? Who is young Sam’s father?
October Road follows Nick Garrett (Bryan Greenberg), an acclaimed writer who hits it big after writing a novel about his small town. When he develops writers block, he returns to face the family and friends he’d left behind. The ABC show also stars Laura Prepon, Brad William Henke, Geoff Stults, Tom Berenger, Jay Paulson, Evan Jones, Warren Christie, Slade Pearce, Odette Yustman, Rebecca Field, Jonathan Murphy, Lindy Booth, Elizabeth Bogush, and Penny Johnson.
Immediately after hearing of the show’s cancellation, the show’s creators — Josh Appelbaum, Andre Nemec and Scott Rosenberg — sat down and wrote a brief ending for Road. Appelbaum said, “It’s sort of like therapy for us, but the most important thing is that it means closure for the fans.” Soonafter, the cast of the show signed on to do the mini-episode that would wrap up the show and answer most of viewers’ long-running questions. Appelbaum continued, “Whether the show went two years or seven years, there’s always been a particular moment and piece of closure that we wanted and we’re going to be able to get to that intended end.”

Though the piece was written, the team of writers had already committed to Life on Mars and many in the cast were booked on other projects. As time went on, though all continued to express a commitment to the project, fans couldn’t help but feel a little uneasy that the finale might not ever be shot.
Well, it seems that “Don’t Look Back: An Epilogue for an Epic Love” is finally being made. According to a post from Murphy (Ronnie Garrett on Road), the tentative plan is to film the finale next weekend, on January 24th in Los Angeles. The actor doesn’t offer any story details but promises that fans’ questions will finally be answered.
Murphy notes that the finale is still planned to be released as part of the Road season two DVD set. There’s no word about when that actually will be made available but it seems almost certain that it will happen eventually.
A division of Disney-ABC released Road’s first season set and it sold well. In August 2008, Lionsgate announced that it had made a deal to release a number of DVD sets of Disney-ABC series. Road was mentioned specifically as being part of that deal. We haven’t seen it yet but Lionsgate has likely been waiting for this finale to be shot so that it could be included.
Hopefully “roadies” won’t have to wait too much longer to see how their favorite story end. Any thoughts on how the tale will end?
Well, better that than nothing, right? I’m really happy that I’ll get to see the end of OR. =D Finally!
This was the perfect story for all of the late 20’s generation. I just had my 10 year reunion and was really relating to the changes and transitions of not seeing my friends for ten years. I too left a girlfriend behind and hadn’t seen her until i got back. A lot of friends were mad at me for not being there for them and just showing up after all these years, but they were also glad , in the sense of better late than never, that i finally showed up. So this show was a great medium for me… Read more »
i’m from saudi arabia and i realy like october road i really wish if it’s back
ther was soo much things that needed to answered
I am very upset with nbc for cancelling this show. It was my favorite show behind lost.now I don’t have anything to look forward too anymore.
I have to say I was very dissapointed when this show was cancelled. It gave us mid 20’s-30’s something to look foward to. It was a great mix of Friends & One Tree Hill. Reality shows are taking over the stations and people need an escape. I too hoped TNT would’ve picked up this show as my TV is often turned to that channel. This was a show for a certain generation that people seemed to have forgotten about. It was different than your random comedies, teen drama, medical scenarios & reality TV that flood our TV.
I can’t believe that there will not be anymore October Road. This was my absolute favorite show.
I’m very disappointed.
I agree with Raquel, I too am from Spain and there are more fans around the world than ABC thinks. Spain loves this show. It would be nice to see the end of the story.
I do really like another season of October Road. I’m from Spain and I need to know what is going to happen with all the story. There are more viewers than ABC believes around the world!!!!!
Yah, I will miss October Road. I also understand Boston Legal will soon be gone. Thank God the executives at ABC really know what we like. I can’t wait for another show like the Bachelor, or Who wants to be a Millionaire? That’s really great entertainment! No wonder the cable networks like TNT are cleaning up. Network TV thinks they can prosper by building a line-up around 2 or 3 over-the-top dramas, and hope we’re to dumb to change the channel. Guess what, TV execs… IT AIN’T WORKING!!!!! By cuting October Road you’ve clearly demonstrated that you’re over paid and… Read more »
I should have known that as soon as I got attached to this show, it would be cancelled. It seems all the shows with heart and substance get cancelled. This show had great characters and stories. I can’t believe that it was cancelled. I am glad to hear they are filming a show that may provide closure, but it only softens the blow that it is cancelled. I can’t believe ABC did not see the value of this show and of its loyal viewers. What a rip off!!!!!!!
I can’t believe they cancelled October Road. There are very few things that actually interesting to watch. I looked forward to the new sean of this show, and you cancelled it. How dare you!
This show was quality …it reminds me of my own smalltown that I grew up in and the characters are so real,,,,everyone can relate to someone in the show….I am an aspiring writer with sentimental and not all my memories of my smalltown ar falttering,,,,,so Nick is someone I relate to,,,,but we all know our own Nicks, Eddies, and something we relate to. The show is spectacular with the photography and filming. I don’t blame ABC as much as viewers that don’t appreciate true quality. I still hoped some other show company would pick it u, but I at the… Read more »

They always have to cancel the good shows on tv. The only shows on tv are stupid!! This is why tv ratings are always down. they take off the good shows to leave crap that has no meaning. just when something good comes to tv they take it off to put reality shows. it’s getting old. people want to watch something that will make them forget about real life and let them get envolved with other characters! if you know what is good you’ll bring it back or somebody should!!! OCTOBER ROAD FAN FOREVER!!!! BRING IT BACK NOW!!!!
