ABC had high hopes for Off the Map, their new medical drama from veteran producers of Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice. Unfortunately things didn’t go as planned and ABC has now cancelled Off the Map after one season on the air.
Off the Map follows the lives of six doctors who have “lost their way” and have traveled to a remote South American jungle to try to rediscover why they wanted to become physicians.
The TV series’ cast includes Caroline Dhavernas, Jason George, Jonathan Castellanos, Mamie Gummer, Martin Henderson, Rachelle Lefevre, Valerie Cruz, and Zach Gilford.
The TV series premiered to a disappointing 2.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 7.57 million viewers. The show won its timeslot but was disrupted in some parts of the country by coverage of the Tucson Memorial. As a result, ABC reran the premiere Off the Map the following night.
For whatever reason, subsequent episodes of Off the Map essentially drew fewer and fewer viewers each week. The final episode of the season hit a series low and attracted a very poor 1.3 rating in the demo with only 3.80 million viewers.
Despite having some very passionate fans, Off the Map ended up being one of the lowest dramas on ABC. It’s no surprise then that the network has now decided against ordering a second season, cancelling the show. All 13 episodes have aired and we likely won’t find out what became of the young doctors left in the jungle.

I CANT BELIEVE THEY CANCELLED THIS SHOW….ONE OF THE BEST I’VE GOTTEN INTO SINCE GREY’S ANATOMY AND PRIVATE PRACTICE……SOOOOOOO SAD
I hate them!!! Why did they cancel the show??? I just started watching it and now I find out its cancelled? What’s wrong with ABC?
This is so stupid!! Everytime there is a new good show they cancel it and leave the crap on TV. Before long the TV won’t even be worth turning on!! This is one of the best shows I’ve seen and they cancel it!
BTW since they don’t seem to keep any of the good shows on could they at least do a freakin ending to it??? I am so tired of the crap!
This is a huge disappointment. There are few shows that are different from the others on TV. This was one and it needed to be given more of a chance. I was looking forward to season two. It took me back to the good medical shows like China Beach when the story lines were all unique and worthy of viewing. I guess people are more interested in “reality” TV. What a shame. Another good show bites the dust ):
they cancel this and leave on the “reality tv” that isn’t reality at all and isn’t worth watching?? this is one that I looked forward to each week.
I think if you changed the name they might have had more viewers. Friends of mine, who are not in the medical profession did not even know the show existed. They thought it might be a show about far away places tucked way back in no where to visit.
Give it another go. Please
I think it’s terrible that they stopped the show. Specially with an end like that, then at least give a finishing end to it.

I too am very sad that both Off the Map and Happy Town are cancelled. I really was looking forward to a season 2. ABC, you really are crappy. I will never watch the reality garbage that you keep plying us with.

I am so mad. Ive been looking foward to this show. i made sure i had off work every wednesday night just to watch it. I am so dissapointed. It was the best show on ABC

So MAD!!!! Loved this show! The TV execs wonder why noone will commit to a show in the first season—- Too many times they cancel them. Give it a chance -GEEZ! If I’m not mistaken Friends was almost cancelled after season one!
I’m from Holland and I’m so sad that Off the map is cancelled… I still can’t understand why they make people to fall in love with series to be cancelled… such a disappointment AGAIN!
