The Originals wrapped up its fourth season on CW on Friday night, and fans will have a long wait for the return of the series.
Why the long wait for the return of this series?
CW did not add The Originals to its fall schedule. The network is holding back the series, which started as a spin-off of The Vampire Diaries, to midseason. That means at least a late 2016 start, but more than likely the series will return to CW in January.
The decision to hold the series for midseason was discussed by Mark Pedowitz at the CW Upfronts earlier this week. According to TV Line, he said:
“We have a very strong schedule. We still believe quite a bit in The Originals. We only have 10 hours, so we made a choice to [hold it] to further boost our schedule at midseason.”
As a fan of this series, this writer was confused by the announcement of the delay to midseason. In a recent interview, Julie Plec talked about future crossovers between The Vampire Diaries and The Originals for next season, but the creator wants to have those opportunities come up organically.
A delay for one of the series cuts off the opportunities for those moments. The two shows have different casts and stories, but even after three years on the air, The Originals has shown that it is still very much connected to the world of The Vampire Diaries.
SPOILER ALERT. On the finale, Klaus sacrificed himself in order for all of his siblings to live. Freya created a spell that would put her siblings to sleep after Marcel had her poisoned and bit Elijah and Kol. Klaus was daggered, and the final moments saw Marcel hiding him away behind bricks. Hayley drove off and left New Orleans with four caskets and Hope. Her mission is to find cures for the Mikaelsons.
Right now, it looks like she will be looking for that cure for nine months. That is a one very long wait. Are you surprised that CW did not put The Originals on their fall schedule? Tell us what you think.
TVD was and is my favorite, but I also love The Originals. However, I thought they were more menacing, or seemed much more powerful, when they were on TVD. Now, suddenly, it’s not so hard to become an “original.” I like the Michaelsons more when they are more powerful but I realize they have to face adversity to make it interesting. I have been looking for the show for a while, especially since I found out TVD was being canceled after this season. Very disappointed. Now that Elena hasn’t been on Vampire Diaries anymore, the show is not as interesting anymore. I like The Originals better than the Vampire Diaries now. Please don’t cancel the show. It has a more gripping effect than Vampire Diaries. Thank you!
Never watched on CW but watched on Netflex so if you play on CW please put on Netflex so we who watch that way can see the next season, so caught up in this series. Haven’t been into one since IZombie, so love this the originals because of its maturity and story line.
I think it SUCKS!! I happen 2 have liked ” The Originals ” more than the Vampire Diaries. Not 2 say I didn’t like Vampire Diaries, just liked the Originals MORE!! Making the audience wait is ridiculous! U will loose fans that way especially depending on which day of the week it’s on & up against. Come on CW tighten up. Get ur **** 2gether. It angers me when networks delay amazing series because I lose interest during the long wait and generally find it difficult to reconnect with the characters and the show. I tend to watch one or two episodes and then stop because the long hiatus made me lose interest. Shame on them!
Oh yeah! Another thing I don’t like thevery new Damon, I could be wrong but I like the old Damon!
Please put the Originals back one it is better than the Vampire Diaries. I think you should not cancel the Vampire Diaries, you let it be a cross over events every week. I like Vampire Diaries to but, I like the Originals better. Please think about it.

I’m so pissed about this. I’ve been waiting for this to return to WB an now I see why. Don’t get me wrong I’m a huge fan of Vampire Diaries but the Originals is my Show. Never missed a episode. Please bring this show back. Please please an hurry..

Don’t stop the Vampire Diaries or the Orginals
So disappointing that we have to wait until January. I was never a fan of the vampire diaries, but LOVE the originals! I’ve been checking the schedule regularly looking for it.
Love the show and SO HOPE they do not cancel and bring it back!!!
I love that show can’t for it’s return
One of my favorite shows and the delay is not a smart move. As a matter of fact tv in general delays the good shows for up to year before we get to watch them. Tv is not what it used to be but the quality of the shows are indeed better. I just wish they would STOP messing with schedules.
