In August of last year, Starz renewed Outlander for a second season after only one episode of the series had aired. Now, there are rumors that season two has been cancelled. What’s going on?
The Outlander series revolves around Claire Randall (Caitriona Balfe), a married combat nurse from 1945. She finds herself mysteriously thrown back in time, to 1743 Scotland, and forced to marry another man to save her life. A passionate affair is ignited. The rest of the cast includes Sam Heughan, Tobias Menzies, Graham McTavish, Gary Lewis, Annette Badland, Stephen Walters, Laura Donnelly, Lotte Verbeek, James Fleet, Duncan Lacroix, Roderick Gilkison, Simon Callow, Grant O’Rourke, Bill Paterson, and Simon Meacock.
As fans of the series know all too well, Outlander is currently on hiatus. Starz decided to split the first season’s 16 episodes into two groups. The first eight finished airing in late September and the second set will begin running on April 4th. It’s a long wait but the Outlander TV show will certainly be back.
While the show doesn’t draw big ratings, it’s doing very well for Starz. The audience grew quite a bit over the course of the first eight episodes. The mid-season finale drew 1.42 million viewers — nearly twice as many as watched the series debut. Networks and cable channels really like to see that kind of trend.
It seems that the cancellation rumor stems from a site called National Report which creates fictional stories with just enough credible information in them to make them believeable.
Starz has not cancelled their plans for a second season of Outlander. The cable channel is heavily promoting the second half of the first season and Outlander author Diana Gabaldon has also confirmed that the cancellation is a hoax.
This month, executive producer Ronald D. Moore confirmed that filming of season two will begin in May. The story will take some of the characters to another country but production will continue to be based in Scotland.
Here’s a preview for the rest of season one, as well as a preview scene:
What do you think? Are you looking forward to the return of Outlander?
When will the series be available in the UK?
This show is amazing, I love how it is historically correct and cannot wait for the new season
was in middle of reading Outlander and could not believe my eyes when I saw a preview of Starz series. Looked into on demand and found that there were a set of 8 shows to be seen from August of 2014!!!!! am in love with the book, and lo and behold the series is on target! not usual for me to be pleased with the movie after the book. However, Jamie is brought to life by Sam Heughan and cannot get enough. am addicted and so in love with the character… brave, gallant, charming, honorable, innocent and wise all at… Read more »
Loved the book series & have read all several times. To watch to TV series is great. Really look forward to finishing this season as well as continuing the series. Surely STARZ won’t cancel. Would be aaa great waste!!
please…. thank the lord this is a hoax!!!
Absolutely love this show. It is the only reason I am willing to pay for a premium channel. Can not wait for April.
I absolutely panicked when I saw the word cancellation next to Outlander season Two. This series is my absolute favorite of all the TV I have seen EVER!
There is such a dearth of well designed and acted shows that it would be a real tragedy to lose this Outlander series! Keep it going!!!!!
I heard the reason they took a hiatus after 8 episodes is apparently due to production being behind schedule and them not being able to have the latter episodes finished in time. Not sure how true it is, but considering Game of Thrones takes a very long time to film one season, even with multiple crews, it’s not a surprise Outlander had issues with their first outing.
I wish they would and STARZ would have to SHUT DOWN.NOT COOL new fan
Shifted all my cable channels to get stars so I could watch outlander, would be hugely upset
If I end up with nothing to watch!!
Don’t DO that to me! I read the title of the article and went quickly from disbelief to becoming seriously ticked off! I absolutely love the Outlander series and was going to boycott Starz if they had really canceled it.
ok, I almost had a heart attack too. I’m glad it wasn’t cancelled. I love this show, love the music. Don’t scare us like that!!!
Have placed my order for the dvd,s of Outlander. I have read the books and watched and re-watched the Starz TV series. It is GREAT . We all enjoy it . Love the music . Just so awesome everything !!!!! Keep on producing the series WE will all be there!!!
WHERE can I find the DVDS??
I THOUGHT I WOULD HAVE A HEART ATTACK! I was gonna be PISSSSED OFF if Starz had cancelled Outlander. Don’t scare me like that again!
OMG yes. I have lived this story through the books for 20 years. Wonderful to see it played out on Starz. So grateful even with some wonder about such a long hiatus. Not for people like me but newbies. I worry they will drift. I also worry a little about season 2. DIA was a difficult book to get through. The reward was the next two, voyager and DOA. So we have to keep the new fans through this long dry spell and then through a season that is political and heartbreaking. Thanks to Ron D Moore and all of… Read more »
