After some very lackluster ratings, NBC is shutting down production on Outlaw. Is it the next to be cancelled?
The Outlaw TV show follows the crusades of a Supreme Court Justice (Jimmy Smits) who decides to step down and go back to being a lawyer to fight injustices. The NBC series also stars Carly Pope, David Ramsey, Jesse Bradford, and Ellen Woglom.
Outlaw debuted via a special preview on Wednesday September 15th, following the season finale of America’s Got Talent. The series premiere was reasonably sampled with a 2.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 10.68 million viewers.
In its regular timeslot a week and two days later, episode two attracted only a 1.1 rating in the demo and 4.89 million total viewers. Last Friday, Outlaw garnered only a 1.0 rating and 4.72. Though expectations are lower on Friday nights, this performance is terrible.
NBC has now shut down production of the series while execs mull over how to proceed. They supposedly want to see how the series performs over the next couple weeks but there’s no reason to expect that the numbers will get any better.
Eight episodes of Outlaw have been produced and five haven’t aired yet. While it seems likely that NBC will air them all at some point, it seems even more likely that Outlaw will be cancelled soon.
What do you think? Do you watch Outlaw on NBC? Do you think the show could be saved? What would you change?

I can’t believe this, It’s my total new favorite new show why the hell did they put it opposite “Blue Bloods”? Please don’t do this.. give it some more time~
NBC is doing ZERO promotion for this show!! how do they expect the numbers or rating to increase when they’re not publicizing it? NBC is run by a bunch of cowardly mis-managers…they need to be bold and take a chance to let an audience become loyal to a show. TV-watching is a new beast, the numbers are down across the board. The least the networks can do is give shows a chance to develop a following. NBC is in last place for a reason. If they cancel this show, it’s just another reason I don’t want to watch their programming.
I love this show. Giving it barely any time and putting it up against ANOTHER wildly popular show. Damning the show for their poor planning. Give it a chance… A REAL chance. Pick a day other than Friday and see where it goes.
I watch the show and I like it very much, it appears very professionally produced. I hope the execs. at NBC give the show some more time to develop and audience
It’s at the wrong day/time. People are out enjoying Friday night. It’s a good show, they need to move it to Tuesday when there is hardly anything to watch. NBC messes up quite often, pulling the plug on good shows as well as crappy shows they never should have aired. They need to use Face Book comments instead of Nielsen ratings.
Change the timeslot! give me a break! Good Lord. Give the freaking show a chance. NBC sucks!!!
This show just represents one side of a debate, a very liberal side. I agree with compassion, but this show goes overboard as pro-left and anti-right. Most people just want to be entertained, nit politicized, when watching non-news type of shows. It will be interesting if NBC allows this post as it isn’t with their political viewpoint.
Give the show a chance! I think it’s a great show with great actors/actresses.
This is an awesome show. However, NBC is very stupid for putting it on a Friday night. They should know by now that Friday’s have the lowest viewership numbers. Still, I can can’t several very good NBC shows that, once they moved them to Friday night, the numbers dropped (duh), and stupid NBC decided to cancel (i.e. Las Vegas, Third Watch). I would hate to see this happen to Outlaw, becase it’s an awesome show!
jimmy smits was all over season 3 of dexter. worst season of the series.
its a great show Jimmy and cast is doingt great. at least it shows u what a great judge should be like in real life and for the people, move it to another night if its not doing great on friday
“Outlaw” is a good show with a good cast. I like Jimmy Smits. Fridays are a death sentence for good shows. Look what happened to “Miami Medical”. Wednesday and Thursday nights are weak. Move the show and give it a decent chance.
This was a moronic show written and enjoyed by people who never took a High School Civics class.
How can you cancel this show after a couple of episodes…give it a chance. Change the time slot and the day and see what happens. Playing aganist BLUE BLOOD doesn’t give it a fair shot.
Come on Guys……………this is a great show!!! when I miss it on Friday nites I watch it on hulu. The show is up to date on current affairs which I find to be interesting. Stop what your doing to cancel and let this show continue for us. So sick of the slap stick crap thats on the air!!! Jimmy Smits is outstanding!! love the fact that he likes to gamble!! how human is that!!
