We’ve received quite a few e-mails from readers who are been worried that Parenthood has been cancelled by NBC. Well, it hasn’t been canned and will actually be returning on January 4th. That’s the good news but fans shouldn’t get too complacent. The drama hasn’t been performing all that well and certainly isn’t assured of a third season.
Last May, Parenthood was one of those shows that was “on the bubble” but still ended up being renewed. Though season one premiered with a 3.1 rating in the coveted 18-49 demographic and 8.1 million viewers, it soon after dropped to a 2.3 rating and 5.83 million viewers. The 13 episodes of season one ended up averaging a 2.6 in the demo and 6.38 million total viewers.
For season two, Parenthood debuted at about the same demo rating it had at the end of season one. Unfortunately, that didn’t last. In mid-November, shortly before it went on hiatus, Parenthood hit a series low of a 1.8 rating in the 18-49 demo and 4.8 million viewers.
The first half of the season has averaged a 2.1 in the demo and 5.22 million. Parenthood is currently the seventh-highest rated scripted program on the network, falling in the middle of the list, just below The Event. While it’s not in immediate danger of being cancelled, the show’s certainly not safe either. Its fate will ultimately be decided by how well it performs when it returns from the six week hiatus. Most shows don’t typically fare very well and ratings drop after a hiatus. Will Parenthood be the exception?
What do you think? Will the ratings for Parenthood go up or down? Will it be cancelled or survive to see season three?

this show is fabulous, please don’t take it away.
We can’t wait each week for the next episode of parenthood. We are seniors, “the parents”, and we can really relate to the issues of our grandchildren. Come on, this is by far one of the best weekly series on television. Right up there with “American Idol”. If we loss this program I’m done with television for the summer.
Please keep this show live
Please DON’T CANCEL THIS SHOW!!!! One of the best classy shows in a long, long long time. Deals with real issues family issues.
Don’t you dare cancel this show. It is the best show on TV. I think it will rate up there with ER over time. I’m sure Two and a Half Men didn’t start out with off the chart ratings but it has become the #1 comedy. Give Parenthood more time.
I love this show except when they all talk at the same time and you can’t hear what’s been said. It is a great show with very talented actors and actresses. Real life without the trash. Please don’t cancel yet another good show. Look forward to it every week even if I have to dvr it.
Great family show. We can relate to so much of the content. Every day life of so many people .please keep it on.
This show is one of the best on T.V. I really look forward to each and every week. I love the fact that they deal with real issues, especially the issue of raising a child with Autism.
This is the best show on T.V.! We love how this show represents alot of what goes on in real families. Please consider moving the time slot. We look forward every week to watching the Bravermans dealing with every day life . This is the best show on any network we watch. We love Parenthood!
This is my favorite show! The 9:00 CST time slot is a bit late for me so I set the DVR or catch it on OnDemand. But I never miss an episode. I don’t like the new mini schedules though. Shows used to be on from fall to spring. Now they seem to have these mini seasons with breaks. Maybe that is why it’s losing viewers. I can’t keep track of what shows are on when. Go back to a normal season already! Kudos to the writers and actors – best on TV!
I love this show. It is my all time favorite. I am a thirty year old single African American lady. I finished my degree in Family Relations and I am beginning grad school for counciling this summer. I adore this show. I laugh and cry every episode. I love how the casting is dynamic. I am not even a sitcom type of person, but this show is so captivating, and beneficial to anyone who watches it. It seems so real and it is not a superficial show. Maybe they can move to another time or another day, but by all… Read more »

Please… Don’t cancel “parenthood”!!!! What can we do to support it?
This is such a wonderful show, well written superbly cast with perfect actors. Perhaps NBC should move it to an earlier slot…even switch to Wed. night. It would be a pity if they axe this show. It’s their best hour of TV!
