We’ve received quite a few e-mails from readers who are been worried that Parenthood has been cancelled by NBC. Well, it hasn’t been canned and will actually be returning on January 4th. That’s the good news but fans shouldn’t get too complacent. The drama hasn’t been performing all that well and certainly isn’t assured of a third season.
Last May, Parenthood was one of those shows that was “on the bubble” but still ended up being renewed. Though season one premiered with a 3.1 rating in the coveted 18-49 demographic and 8.1 million viewers, it soon after dropped to a 2.3 rating and 5.83 million viewers. The 13 episodes of season one ended up averaging a 2.6 in the demo and 6.38 million total viewers.
For season two, Parenthood debuted at about the same demo rating it had at the end of season one. Unfortunately, that didn’t last. In mid-November, shortly before it went on hiatus, Parenthood hit a series low of a 1.8 rating in the 18-49 demo and 4.8 million viewers.
The first half of the season has averaged a 2.1 in the demo and 5.22 million. Parenthood is currently the seventh-highest rated scripted program on the network, falling in the middle of the list, just below The Event. While it’s not in immediate danger of being cancelled, the show’s certainly not safe either. Its fate will ultimately be decided by how well it performs when it returns from the six week hiatus. Most shows don’t typically fare very well and ratings drop after a hiatus. Will Parenthood be the exception?
What do you think? Will the ratings for Parenthood go up or down? Will it be cancelled or survive to see season three?

My husband and I very much enjoy the show!!! Hope we have many more years to be able to watch it!!!
Love this show. Please do not cancel.
gosh! for once my husband and I love a show together and look forward to tuesdays….try putting it on earlier maybe??…………..wow! does it have to be killings and sex for shows to get great ratings…………I am so mad when there was a tues it wasnt on….. I just love it, and would love to continue seeing for a long time…………please, please save this show!!
It really doesn’t surprise me that this show is in danger of being canceled simply because it is one of a kind and gets to the core of heart issues that would not otherwise be discussed on mainstream television. I would be extremely disappointed as it as become one of the only programs I find worth watching lately but I suppose it would not surprise me. I mean with things 0ut there like Jersey ***** (oops I’m sorry) and Desparate (to push our agendas and desensatize our viewers) Housewives who can compete.
Parenthood MUST continue. It is actually more realistic than most reality shows.
You guys stoped the show, right when she gets in a wreck, Whats up with that ? Please but the show back on, it said May 13 th but I couldnt find it…Please dont cancel this WONDERFUL show
Please, please, please!!!!! Do NOT cancel Parenthood! this is the only t.v. show that I have been interested in , in years. I love it and look forward to it each week. I am the Mother of five and we do watch this show as a family. Please bring it back!
PLEASE DON’T CANCEL PARENTHOOD!! Three generations (my family) -14yrs old, 48 yrs. old, 74 yrs old all love Parenthood We are sad when it is pre-empted—It protrays real family life—the good and bad. It is very educational as what families have to deal with gifted children and ones with Asberger (sp.?). With that knowledge, the rest of the population (my family included) will be more understanding of their behavior. There isn’t much left on TV for families to watch together and relate to. PLEASE PUT IT ON EARLIER AND YOU WILL GET HIGHER RATINGS!!. I’m a night person- Senior &… Read more »
I sure hope Parenthood stays on I truly enjoy this show. Our friends son has asbergers (sp) it just makes them feel they are not alone I love the family and their acting is so natural so please keep this good show on we could get rid of BAD GIRLS and JERSEY what ever. they are terrible show. We need more family shows.
Our whole family loves Parenthood. It relates to real family fun and drama. We live all over the country and when we talk we always manage to fit in a conversation about Parenthood. Please keep this series on the air.
I love Parenthood and would hate to see is cancelled. ABC is cancelling another show that I love Brothers and Sisters. Pretty soon all that’s going to be on TV are reality shows. Be strong and keep this great series going!
Please keep Parenthood on T.V. Our family values the lesson that are learned on this show, it is helping so many families in ways you will never know. As a Grandmother its nice ot have clean, funny, and enjoyable Show’s on like this. Up with the Braverman’s and down with Cancelling them. Who’s idea was it to take them off the air? Shame on you we need show’s like this instead of violence and doctor shows. Thanks for keeping it on the air.
I love the show. It’s the only show that I like to watch on Tuesday nights. My husband now even knows the characters! It is one of the most realistic of family dramas out there. I agree it should be shown earlier, perhaps in the 9:00 pm time slot.
Parenthood is the GREATEST show on TV. It’s the ONLY show the entire family watches. NBC needs to air it EARLIER in the evening…10:00 pm is just too late for a family show on a school night. This show reaches preteens and teenagers, THEY NEED THIS SHOW!!!!! Please don’t get rid of the best show on TV. We need more shows like this. Too many “crime” based shows. Kids NEED shows that deal with family issues!!!!!!
Please do not cancel this show – my family LOVES it!! My 18 year old son gets angry when some other show pre-empts it. SAVE PARENTHOOD!!!!
