Things were a little touch and go for awhile but NBC has now renewed Parenthood for a sixth season. It will be the last season and the cast and crew will have 13 episodes to say goodbye.
Parenthood revolves around the lives of the extended Braverman family in Northern California. The ensemble cast includes Lauren Graham, Dax Shepard, Tyree Brown, Joy Bryant, Max Burkholder, Erika Christensen, Miles Heizer, Sam Jaeger, Monica Potter, Savannah Paige Rae, Xolo Mariduena, Mae Whitman, with Bonnie Bedelia and Craig T. Nelson.
The series has never been a ratings hit for NBC but it has remained a pretty consistent performer with a devoted fanbase. This season, the ratings took a pretty dramatic downturn, dropping 20-30% compared to the fourth season. Shows like Revolution, Growing Up Fisher, and Believe all had better ratings but they were cancelled.
The network wanted to cut costs so they could bring the large ensemble series back for a final season but members of the cast reportedly didn’t want to agree to a smaller-than-usual episode guarantee. A compromise was eventually made.
We should have a better idea this week when season six will begin airing.
What do you think? Are you glad that Parenthood has been renewed for a final season? Would you like to see a seventh season or do you think this is the right time to end it?
I loved watching the show. It touched my heart so much and learned a lot of asperger, my great nephew has it. Please bring it back.
This was definitely a great show to watch through the years; it covered issues any person could relate to. I’m very sad to see that it was canceled. It was refreshing to tune in to something other than a reality show.
Devastated is the only word I can come up with to describe how I feel about Parenthood being canceled. It is the best show on TV, true to life issues, trials and tribulations. We need more shows like Parenthood and need to get away from all the reality crap TV. I’m not sure if bringing Parenthood back is in the cards, but I DEFINITELY want the Braverman’s stories to continue, there is so much more that could have been written. Their last episode was a very sad day to many of their dedicated fans. Parenthood was my favorite TV show… Read more »
This was a solid, good, wholesome show. Each week brought real emotions and tears. The characters’ storylines were realistic. We fell in love with them and grew alongside of them. I’m so sad that the series ended. We need more shows like this and fewer reality shows, fewer dry comedy, and less violent shows. This was a great show and I will miss it.
i loved this program I still have no idea why this show has been cancelled it was a very good family show great actors made me laugh & cry very disappointed.
I am devastated that this show has ended. I am impressed on how it was ended but felt the show had more seasons to go. The cast and crew of this well written show was a delight to watch every week and I am very sad to see this end.
It is really to bad that this series had to end. They RARELY make shows like this anymore. This is what real life is about – those reality shows are NOT real life. More people should stand up and say these are the shows they want to watch and boycott reality shows. Parenthood is a show you can watch with your children.
I am beyond disappointed…..absolutely devastated! Great cast, great writing. In this day of bad news all day, this was good old wholesome family values. Big, big mistake to cancel. I will always question your judgement going forward and whether or not to support your programming.
This was the best family show on TV. I’m just very frustrated that Americans don’t choose this type of programming over all the other sensationalized garbage that’s out there.
So sad to see this show end. One of the few realistic family shows. Maybe there will be an annual reunion? NBC should be ashamed of cancelling such a magnificent show!
I looked forward to Parenthood every week. I was a wonderful family show. I am very sad to see it end.
Im in shock it ended good…….yes!!! But really the only good family show that’s on the air. Everything else is so violent or written horribly that you cant even relate! I have a few shows I watch on ABC but none of them made me cry or get my attention the way this one did. You felt like part of the family and not to be able to see the braveman’s anymore is extremely sad. The show helped me get though a lot of real life issues and I will definitely watch again however will probably never watch another show… Read more »
Very sad to see this show end ! Bring it back …
I have only found two network shows worthy of weekly viewing & Parenthood was one of them ( and the best). Obviously quality programming is not a network priority anymore. Damn shame!!!
I’m so very sad to say goodbye to Parenthood, which has been my favourite TV show since I stumbled upon it in its second season. It’s rare to see such a smart & entertaining ensemble these days, so shame on NBC. I’ll miss you, Bravermans!
