NBC has decided to bring their freshman drama, Parenthood, back for a second season.
Parenthood follows the joys and challenges of the Braverman family from Northern California. The large cast includes Lauren Graham, Peter Krause, Craig T. Nelson, Bonnie Bedelia, Mae Whitman, Miles Heizer, Erika Christensen, Sam Jaeger, Dax Shepard, Joy Bryant, Monica Potter, Sarah Ramos, and Max Burkholder.
The show got off to a positive start in early March with a 3.1 rating in the 18-49 demo and 8.1 million viewers. The numbers fell to a 2.6 and 6.1 million viewers the following week and dropped even further in week three.
These past few weeks though, Parenthood seems to have settled in to a 2.5 rating and about 6.3 million viewers. That typically translates into Parenthood either sitting in second place or tying for first with CBS’ The Good Wife in the demo.
NBC says that the drama appeals to a high percentage of households with incomes over $100,000 in the key demo and adds about 30% more audience when the time-shifted viewing is figured in. Considering the rest of NBC’s schedule, it’s no surprise that they’ve renewed Parenthood for another season.
The peacock network will announce its 2010-11 schedule on May 17th. Its expected that the Parenthood will return in the fall (rather than mid-season) and keep its current timeslot.
What do you think? Are you glad that Parenthood has been renewed for a second season?

i normally watch it on the computer, since the time is not very convenient for me. Either way I WATCH IT AND GIVE IT MY UNDIVIDED ATTENTION.
I LOVE this show… Glad its coming backk
I love this show already because, first, I love Lauren Graham, and second, I can relate to it on many levels. It is a great depiction of how families can be both functional and dysfunctional at the same time and it’s all okay. Every family has its ups and downs, and over achievers and — not so over achievers — and that doesn’t mean you don’t still love each other. I hope this show lasts because I think everyone can gain something from it and can relate in some way or another. Kind of a much needed feel-good one for… Read more »
love the show – oh so happy to hear that it will appear again in the fall
For the most part, the show has been very good. It is great to see a family come together to help each other out, and often, at the end of an episode, to have a family meal. But, some situations should not have been brought into the series, e.g., the grandfather’s infidelity, and the grandmother’s reaction of a “revenge, one-night stand”. This is unnecessary bad drama. It spoils the show. The grandfather’s financial problem was enough. Good cast, mostly good acting, mostly good writing. I hope the second season leaves out the unnecessary, negative drama. Let’s have more smiles and… Read more »
I totally agree with Bob. I really like the show but somehow felt the infedelity in the older generation was totally uneccesary and a little disapointing. Itjust didn’t seem to fit . I love the cast, they make the show and the diversity of the characters and the problems they face is great.
Luv luvluvluv this show! It is very relatable! I can NOT wait until it comes back on!!!
