Fans of NBC’s Passions were understandably upset last January when the network announced that the steamy soap had been cancelled. A few months later, satellite provider DirecTV stepped in to “save the day” and made a deal to produce Passions for their exclusive Channel 101.
Unfortunately, many fans can’t subscribe to DirecTV due to economics or a variety of other reasons. When Passions leaves NBC on September 7th, there’ll be no way for them to follow the adventures of their favorite Harmony residents. Or will there?
Last night, DirecTV hosted the first of four half-hour shows called Passions LIVE!. Castmember Eric Martsolf (Ethan) hosted the program, chatted with Juliet Mills (Tabitha) and Heidi Mueller (Kay), and answered fans’ questions.
After the show, Eric spent about 10 minutes online with viewers. One fan asked if Passions would be available online. Martsolf responded, “DirectTV knows that you guys want to watch it online so they’re taking steps and they’re making efforts to make sure that it is broadcast online very, very soon.” (You can hear it for yourself at the 4:45 mark.)
This certainly doesn’t qualify as an official announcement about online viewing but it does gives hope that there’s some action going on behind the scenes. Though production of the show will ultimately be funded by subscriber revenue, DirecTV knows that everyone can’t subscribe. Hopefully, the number of people who have subscribed will be enough to make the venture worth their investment and keep the soap going for years to come — both via Channel 101 and online.

I live in Canada and have watched Passions since the very 1st episode…it is the most outrageous and fun show around. I work FT at a bank and cannot watch it during the day…so I have been able to (for the last 5 months) watch it online at NBC…unfortunately Canadians can no longer watch it online…and a lot of Canadian fans feel punished for living in this country.
Please bring Passions back online, and please allow us Canadians to watch it too 🙂
Eric…You are one cool cat. I really enjoy the show and get a kick out of your character. Keep up the good work. I agree that Heidi is a hottie but you cant leave out Emily…she is pretty gorgeous herself.
I switch to directv years ago because it was cheaper then cable cheak it out
I REALLY hope that you guys at DirectTV can help us passion fans out and play Passions online….Alot of us are in the military and stationed overseas and just can not see it unless its online, we are unable to get direct tv over here. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLAY PASSIONS ONLINE….its my favorite show EVER 🙂
I HAVE BEEN WATCHING PASSIONS SINCE THE SHOWED AIRED. I AM SHOCKED THAT NBC HAS CANCELED THE SHOW. I AM GLAD THOUGH THAT I WILL BE ABLE TO SWITCH SATELITE AND GO WITH DIRECT TV NOW. I WOULDN’T WANT TO MISS MY FAVORITE SHOW. I EVEN HAVE MY HUSBAND HOOKED ON THE SHOW. WE ARE PASSIONS NO. 1 FANS.
Passions is the ONLY soap I watch due to all the Sci-fi storylines involved. I am not a soap watch so that says alot!! I can’t make the switch so please put on the net. Thanks.
please make passions availiable for viuewing online, a,lot of people are being turned away by direct tv cause of credit issues, & extremely high deposits for the service. I was in a very serious car accident in may 2007 which resulted in me losing my job & causing my credit to go down hill because of it. in result it’s causing great difficulty in being able to continueing to follow my favorite show. please if anything direct tv for the loyal fans of passions please allow us to sign up for service with out the high deposits due to credit… Read more »
I love the show, hope that it goes online, hope that direct tv takes care of the show, and keeps it going good.
only have access 2 computer at work so won’t b able 2 see Passions after it leaves NBC–keep it on there–you will lose lots of viewers–why do this?
I hope that they do decided to put passions online b/c in my development where i live i’m not allowed to have direct tv installed, b/c of my landlord… 🙁 blah, so i hope that they do decide to put them online..please… :p

i wasnt going to watch passions when they took off another world but i have watched it from day 1 and now i wont be able to see it please post it online so my 6year old and i can watch it together after school
leave passions where it is ive watched it from day 1 its an amazing show love cindy / joy /matt
