OWN’s original scripted programming has largely revolved around dramas, and some of them have done quite well on the smaller cable network. While Tyler Perry’s For Better or Worse has ended its first run, now the prolific creator is bringing some laughter to the Oprah Winfrey Network, with a spin-off of his long-lived sitcom, Tyler Perry’s House of Payne. Is the audience ready for more laughs with this family? Will The Paynes be cancelled or renewed for season two? Stay tuned.
A comedy, The Paynes TV show stars Cassi Davis Patton, LaVan Davis, Jackée Harry, Stephanie Charles, Markice Moore, JD McCrary, Sanai Victoria, and Anthony O. Dalton. The OWN TV series centers on Ella and Curtis Payne (Davis Patton and Davis). He’s a somewhat brash, retired fire chief, while she’s a patient, long-suffering homemaker. Retirement isn’t all smooth sailing for them, and they experience plenty of lows along with the highs.

Please do not cancel “The Payne’s”, this a great sitcom that can be successful as their episodes cover relatable subject matters. This fast pace sitcom also brings awareness of current (as well sensitive) facts of life. As a fan of Tyler Perry’s creations, I am excited from week to week to see what he is going to cover next.
I do think the laugh tracks are played a bit too much during each show.

I thought I would like to show but it is so repetitive and I don’t get the characters as well as I did when they had a full fledge family back in Georgia. Something is off something is just not right with the show it does not hold my attention I don’t find it a funny show at all and I know it is not filmed in front of a live audience I believe and that fake laughing is just awful
The show is decent. Like everyone else said, the laugh tracks are a bit much and unfortunately the 2 kids are bad actors. They keep looking into the camera. I like the rest of the supporting cast though. The show was getting better as season 1 progressed. I’d like to see a season 2 and see what happens.
Curtis is the one who makes the show a winner……he doesn’t have the enemy laughter flare with anyone on the show……Ella into the church scene doesn’t vie with me to much……she was better in the role of helping Jeanne.& family…..the situation with the girl and the doctor does not show the feeling of a person being abused……the girl child is always looking toward the camera more then she is in her role…..I always thought & felt like Curtis and Hattie Mae would make great nemesis laughter…..Hattie Mae “love thou neighbor”
We need more laughter but it needs to be longer than an half hour life is way too serious
The show isn’t the same as the original ones with the original cast members. The kids on the new show need more acting classes along with eliminating the ongoing laughs. Sometimes you got to say, time is up with certain projects….move on and create other shows that can fit with today tv shows
I absolutely love Curtis and Ella; however, the new show is a bit cliche. Too many laugh tracks to the poor acting from supporting cast. It seems that they are trying to be funny instead of actually being humorous.
Like everyone else has already said, the “laugh tracks” are way too much. However, even if they stopped playing them it wouldn’t help this show much. It’s just not compelling, entertaining.
I agree the others when they say there is way to much laughing i mean every joke theres a laughing audio one after another then again and again that is very annoying plus it seems more basic acting instead of the older episodes from the meet the paynes
House Of Payne
The show “The Paynes” should be cancelled. It’s no good. Not funny. The original cast from House of Payne was great. There’s too many “breaks” for laughter and pointless punch lines. I’m rather disappointed in the return of The Paynes. I still watch the older episodes though.
You cant even hear the cast for the loud laughing (constantly). It would be alot funnier if it was just Ella and Curtis, the adding of more children is not necessary not to mention the children are VERY bad acors. It also seems as though Curtis is more conservative with his sarcastic comments. I really want this show to work out because I loved the original. Hopefully they will make some changes and fix it before its too late.
It in no way compares to the original “house of Payne” it’s not funny at all, maybe if the original cast was still on it would be good!
It’s probably the worst comedy shows that I’ve seen. The constant laughing is horrible. Just cancel it already.
I hate this show!!!! Can’t stand to watch it for 2 minutes, get rid of it!!!
I love most of TP’s shows, however the laugh machine is driving me crazy. Not everythung is funny & it’s annoying. The same thing happened with For Better For Worst. Keep show on, just kill the laughs.
I look forward to the Paynes returning to t.v. They are funny and entertaining for all ages. Thanks Tyler for bringing them back.
This is a very funny show. I think the entire cast is wonderful! Please do not cancelled this show. With all the constant bickering in the news, it is refreshing to know, the Paynes is a brief escape from the corrupt politics and the negative shenanigans. Great show!!
