Earlier this week, NBC announced their mid-season schedule and, not surprisingly, low-rated Prime Suspect wasn’t on it. Supposedly NBC execs hadn’t cancelled the show and would still be “considering their options” until all 13 episodes had aired.
Now comes word that production will be shutting down before the holiday. The cast and crew were reportedly informed of the season wrap on Monday afternoon, as NBC was announcing their schedule. It surely wasn’t a surprise. Mario finishing episode 12 now and will complete number 13 before closing up shop.
There won’t be any more episodes produced for this season, despite the fact that the network ordered another half dozen scripts. Though NBC isn’t officially saying that Prime Suspect is cancelled, the cast and crew have been told that there won’t be a second season.
Theoretically, Prime Suspect could be brought back next season but that would mean that the network would have to put a lot of money into promoting a show that had been off the air for nine months, a show that couldn’t muster strong ratings after a big launch. Thus far the show’s averaged a dismal 1.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic and just 4.97 million viewers.
There’s simply no reason for the network to spend any more resources on Prime Suspect. For whatever reason, most of the network just weren’t interest in this TV series.
What do you think? Are you sorry that Prime Suspect is being cancelled and won’t be back for a second season?

This was my favorite show of the week. Please reconsider
There was no reason to stop the show……… Nobody asked me if I like it!!!!!
I am very disappointed Prime Suspect was cancelled because I found the story lines thought provoking and the characters Interesting and authentic. Jane Timmony was strong and her need to be so was credible in her role as a female in a male dominated profession.
I’m very disapppointed to see the news that “Prime Suspect” has been cancelled but I’m not that surprised. The show had some excellent story lines and some very strong and believable characters—especially the lead role played by Maria Bello. The farther we got into the series the more we became introduced to each of the characters and their respective flaws and histories. What I liked most about it was that it was real. None of this “comedic banter while standing over a dead body” crap that you see in so many completely unrealistic other “cop” shows of which there are… Read more »
such a mistake!!!!! great, funny actors and love Maria bello!!!!!
Wow- take a well written show and replace it with four stupid Jewish American Princess fake laughter comedy shows. having lived in NYC for 33 years I have had enough of the *** culture. You take your poles from the Westchester crowd and they all vote Kosher. Get real and put back a good cop show with a good cast. OMG NBC sucks.
why, why, why. a good show worth watching…but no we have snookie, kim and all the other crap not worth watching. well written and maria bellow great. what is wrong with this pic…lol nbc get it together
We love Prime Suspect and all the characters. What is wrong with NBC, it takes awhile for word to get around sometimes and then people fall in love with a show.
This show is so much more realistic than a lot of shows that have policewomen running around in cocktail dresses and 4″ heels to a crime scene.
Shame on you NBC.
We love this show and reeeally hope that it comes back We look forward to it every week! Pleease give it another chance NBC!!
I am very disappointed in the cancellation of Prime Suspect. I t was my favorite show and could wait to watch it. I loved the interaction between the cops; their sarcasm, humor, jealousies, and insecurities all rolled in the hour show. Now what?
this was a really really great show, nbc sucks
I hate that this show got cancelled. Excellent acting and I actually liked ALL the character’s. Very upset that one of my favorite show is gone. And I can’t believe that they had almost 5million viewers and that is considered a bad thing. That’s 5 million people who like the show and they are cancelling it!!! Money grubbing CEOs…
I’m not surprised. A show with powerful storylines, excellent cast, thought provoking subtexts. No wonder the masses didn’t respond to it. Why not re-cast it with one of The Kardashian sisters? Jane Timony investigates the murder of a poorly dressed housewife in the High-End clothing section of Sears department store and breaks a nail on her index finger? Now that’s RIVITING television. If ratings are the only factor driving the quality of program on prime time television….ahhhhhhh…..we are in MAJOR trouble. Good Luck NBC…HEY, at least Harry Connick, Jr. will be on SVU now! I can’t wait for the SVU… Read more »
“Prime Suspect” got cancelled in large part because it was opposite “The Mentalist.” I would toggle back and forth, but Robin Tunney, Amanda Righetti, and Simon Baker are a crack team of actors to pass up.
So sad to hear we won’t be having Jane Timoney back. I adore her character – we need more strong women like Jane. I liked the British series a lot. BOO HOO! Bring Jane back!!
