TV show description:
A prequel to the Helen Mirren police drama, and adapted from the Lynda La Plante novel Tennison, the Prime Suspect: Tennison TV show airs on ITV in UK as Prime Suspect: 1973. The series centers on Jane Tennison (Martini) in the early days of her career.
Although just a naïve 22 years of age, WPC Jane Tennison is a passionate, if inexperienced new recruit, in a chauvinistic era, where the upper ranks are resistant to females on the force. Her mother, Joyce (Somerville) is inclined to agree and wishes Jane were more like her domestically inclined sister, Pam (Day).
Jane reports to DI Len Bradfield (Reid), a demanding boss with exacting standards. When they begin working Julie Ann Collins’ murder, Tennison manages to impress him with her dedication.
Bradfield feels a deep enmity for Clifford Bentley (Armstrong), a criminal he believes is responsible for the death of a colleague. While Bentley is still in prison, he begins planning his next job, along with his sons.
Hot headed DS Spencer Gibbs (Harrison) is a dogged detective and Bradfield’s righthand man. He takes his professional responsibilities seriously, but can go overboard during interrogations. He becomes fully engrossed in the investigation of Julie’s murder.
The crime drama traces the ascent of a rookie police officer working her first murder investigation and how this case primed Jane Tennison to bloom into the daunting woman she is, today.
Series Finale:

What do you think? Do you like the Prime Suspect: Tennison TV show? Should this TV series have been cancelled or renewed for a second season on PBS and ITV?
Please bring this show back!! Very much enjoyed watching it
Good acting! Loved the music!
Shame to see such an excellent series cancelled. Hope there is enough pressure to being it back
Loved this show. Wanted to see more. Really liked the Bradfield character too. Sorry to see him go. I think this should have been renewed. I like the era, actors and setting.
Definitely keep it and keep it going. A terrific show. Love it.
This was one of the best Summer shows on PBS!! Our vote is: This show should definitely be filmed again (especially with the same cast) as a repeat next Season.
We thought they did a great job. Would like to have seen more episodes to see how the writer develop Jane’s character.
I can’t believe this great show’s been cancelled. It puts context to tennison. I hope they change there mind and give it a chance.
U loved this show Sooo sad 2 see it’s canceled
I can’t believe this great show’s been cancelled. Of all the lame decisions, this is tops. I watch nothing else on tv other than news and was so excited to see the Prime Suspect prequel. Can’t wait for the next episode, and now discover it’s cancelled. Extremely disappointing. Whatever were you thinking?
I am tired of shows I care about being cancelled. Of course this shouldn’t have been cancelled.
I will never understand why they cancel shows so quickly. This has the potential to be another great show, why not give it some room to breathe and grow.
This show is great! It’s better than anything made in the United States. Show are not given enough time, before they are pulled.
My wife and I are addicts of PBS, and watch only our local affiliate for essentially ALL entertainment, national, world, and space news. We do watch network news daily at 11 pm. We are long-term members, now Sustaining, and contribute several times more a year, including to the FM affiliate.
This is an EXCELLENT show, fully as well done as our other favorites. Please try everything yoo can to resolve the problem and get a few more previous seasons for us.
I pledge $500 for the year season 2 appears.

I am disappointed that “Tennison” was cancelled. I thought Stephanie Martini did an excellent job portraying an aspiring neophyte police officer. And Sam Reid ain’t bad either! FYI: I have not seen the original P.S. series, so I am not comparing Martini with Helen Mirren, young or old.
I am SO looking forward to watching this Series once I have it all recorded. I must say that Stefanie Martini is one brave lady to accept the role of one of the most popular characters in the history of British broadcasting. Dame Helen Mirren’s portrayal of this character with all her faults and all of her heroic attributes was nothing short of masterful and, thus, is a daunting task as well as a great opportunity for Martini to revive the character in prequel fashion. I can only hope that this Series even approaches the superior quality of the original… Read more »
