Tonight marks the season finale of the Proof TV show on TNT. Will this series that’s focused on death manage to stay alive and see a second season? Should this drama be cancelled instead?
On Proof, Doctor Carolyn “Cat” Tyler (Jennifer Beals) recently lost her son, saw her marriage end, and become estranged to her teenage daughter. Cat is persuaded by cancer-stricken billionaire Ivan Turing (Matthew Modine) to search for evidence that death is not the end and this takes her on a deeply personal and emotional journey. The rest of the cast includes David Sutcliffe, Joe Morton, Edi Gathegi, Caroline Rose Kaplan, Callum Blue, and Annie Thurman.
The series debuted on June 16th with a 0.37 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 2.66 million viewers. It was a pretty mediocre start for a TNT series. The ratings dwindled downward over the course of the season though they saw a nice bump upward last week.
The season is currently averaging a 0.31 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 2.12 million viewers. It’s one of TNT’s lowest-rated scripted series in the demo and is in the middle of the pack in viewership.
With ratings like these, the cable channel could go either way. It could easily be canceled or renewed. If the finale does particularly well, those ratings coupled with last week’s numbers might be enough to tip the scale towards a renewal. For now, we’ll have to wait and see what happens.
But, what do you think? Do you like the Proof TV show on TNT? If you ran the cable channel, would you cancel or renew it for a second season?
_Proof_ is a wonderful show! It’s intelligent!
The last scenes, when Dr Tyler found out she had
seen the lady with the green scarf at the moment of
her death — changing everything — was brilliant!
Please renew _Proof_. Thinking is real.
We need intelligent stories on TV!
Keep it. People need time to find it and realize how good it is. I predict that this show will find a wider audience through on-demand.
This is an amazing and thought provoking series! Jennifer Beals is great as the brilliant surgeon who holds all her emotions inside. Quite frankly, I cannot imagine TNT cancelling this show when there are so many ridiculous “reality” shows trashing today’s television viewing. This is a medical show, yes; however, the medicine is just the backdrop. The proof that this series is referring to makes it much more interesting than just another Dr. show, PLEASE DO NOT TAKE THIS SHOW AWAY!
Keep it please! So different and refreshing.
Great show….please keep it. I love the week-to-week story lines. It really gets you thinking as to what can happen. Jennifer Beals is outstanding in the role and the other characters are well written as well. Hope to see Season 2.
Be in no doubt whatsoever, this has been an excellent drama series. A neutral exploration on a subject that is a final rendezvous we each will meet one day. No one can give a definitive answer to what lies ahead after the demise of our physical body. There is a mass of anecdotal evidence from those who underwent the most private and personal experience of near-death experience (NDE), but it remains anecdotal at best. The most wonderful aspect of this series was its subtly, nothing glaring, nothing overly challenging to one’s world view, and a sublime lack of sensationalism. I… Read more »
Love this show! So thought provoking! Wonderful alternative to the reality show drivel that inhabits far too much programming!
Should at least give a 2nd for the fans of the show even if it’s a shorter season, to end it properly with no cliffhangers.
Please keep, great show!!
Proof was a show I really enjoyed. Several friends and I watched it every week. Please keep it for another season…at least! Not too often some of us folks find a show that is thought provoking and entertaining.
I absolutely LOVE this show!!! (I’m 58). Please keep this show going!!
keep it!!! Love the show
This show is awesome. Im a 20 year old male and I thought this show was very interesting. Every minute of it. I understand why some with little patience may not be able to pay attention because by nature it wasnt too fast paced but that being said, it felt very honest and realistic. Not exactly sure where this series could go as the finale probided some closure but if possible I’d love and be extremely curious to see a second season.
Renew. Great show,
I think this show is making us think about things we either shy away from or consider too difficult to contemplate, and it’s doing this in very interesting and dramatically fulfilling ways. The scripting has been somewhat uneven, but the concept and characters are stronly defined. I’d like to see more.
