Tonight marks the season finale of the Proof TV show on TNT. Will this series that’s focused on death manage to stay alive and see a second season? Should this drama be cancelled instead?
On Proof, Doctor Carolyn “Cat” Tyler (Jennifer Beals) recently lost her son, saw her marriage end, and become estranged to her teenage daughter. Cat is persuaded by cancer-stricken billionaire Ivan Turing (Matthew Modine) to search for evidence that death is not the end and this takes her on a deeply personal and emotional journey. The rest of the cast includes David Sutcliffe, Joe Morton, Edi Gathegi, Caroline Rose Kaplan, Callum Blue, and Annie Thurman.
The series debuted on June 16th with a 0.37 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 2.66 million viewers. It was a pretty mediocre start for a TNT series. The ratings dwindled downward over the course of the season though they saw a nice bump upward last week.
The season is currently averaging a 0.31 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 2.12 million viewers. It’s one of TNT’s lowest-rated scripted series in the demo and is in the middle of the pack in viewership.
With ratings like these, the cable channel could go either way. It could easily be canceled or renewed. If the finale does particularly well, those ratings coupled with last week’s numbers might be enough to tip the scale towards a renewal. For now, we’ll have to wait and see what happens.

Wow, what a thought provoking series and the finale wetted my appetite for more. Please bring Proof… back.
This show handled the ultimate question asked from the beginning of time incredibly well. The plot, characters, and their arcs, were extraordinary. It should be renewed to further advance the thoughts about this topic and for its entertainment value as well. RENEW! That said, it had a great ending, I do not feel I wasted 12 or so hours of my life watching something stupid or useless.
I really like the show, Proof. it is thought provoking and entertaining.

Different kind of show, it would be a shame to have it cancelled after only one short season. Give it another season!
I really enjoyed this show. It’s not like anything else on TV. I found the subject matter interesting and handled well. I would definitely watch again if it were renewed.
