Tonight marks the season finale of the Proof TV show on TNT. Will this series that’s focused on death manage to stay alive and see a second season? Should this drama be cancelled instead?
On Proof, Doctor Carolyn “Cat” Tyler (Jennifer Beals) recently lost her son, saw her marriage end, and become estranged to her teenage daughter. Cat is persuaded by cancer-stricken billionaire Ivan Turing (Matthew Modine) to search for evidence that death is not the end and this takes her on a deeply personal and emotional journey. The rest of the cast includes David Sutcliffe, Joe Morton, Edi Gathegi, Caroline Rose Kaplan, Callum Blue, and Annie Thurman.
The series debuted on June 16th with a 0.37 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 2.66 million viewers. It was a pretty mediocre start for a TNT series. The ratings dwindled downward over the course of the season though they saw a nice bump upward last week.
The season is currently averaging a 0.31 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 2.12 million viewers. It’s one of TNT’s lowest-rated scripted series in the demo and is in the middle of the pack in viewership.
With ratings like these, the cable channel could go either way. It could easily be canceled or renewed. If the finale does particularly well, those ratings coupled with last week’s numbers might be enough to tip the scale towards a renewal. For now, we’ll have to wait and see what happens.

Renew renew renew!!! My demographic? 75 ! its about time we mature audiences had a series to care about. There are many of us who enjoy the intellectual musings of this show. Not to mention Jennifer Beals is the heartrob of ALL generations.

Proof is gaining a large following internationally due to excellent acting particularly from Jennifer Beale and Matthew Modine. I love the show and hoping for series 2. There is so much more that can be explored , with supporting actors presence only just beginning to be elaborated on
This is a well written show with a storyline that is unique – I think it should be renewed & will likely grow its viewer base as people discover it.
