Tonight marks the season finale of the Proof TV show on TNT. Will this series that’s focused on death manage to stay alive and see a second season? Should this drama be cancelled instead?
On Proof, Doctor Carolyn “Cat” Tyler (Jennifer Beals) recently lost her son, saw her marriage end, and become estranged to her teenage daughter. Cat is persuaded by cancer-stricken billionaire Ivan Turing (Matthew Modine) to search for evidence that death is not the end and this takes her on a deeply personal and emotional journey. The rest of the cast includes David Sutcliffe, Joe Morton, Edi Gathegi, Caroline Rose Kaplan, Callum Blue, and Annie Thurman.
The series debuted on June 16th with a 0.37 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 2.66 million viewers. It was a pretty mediocre start for a TNT series. The ratings dwindled downward over the course of the season though they saw a nice bump upward last week.
The season is currently averaging a 0.31 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 2.12 million viewers. It’s one of TNT’s lowest-rated scripted series in the demo and is in the middle of the pack in viewership.
With ratings like these, the cable channel could go either way. It could easily be canceled or renewed. If the finale does particularly well, those ratings coupled with last week’s numbers might be enough to tip the scale towards a renewal. For now, we’ll have to wait and see what happens.
But, what do you think? Do you like the Proof TV show on TNT? If you ran the cable channel, would you cancel or renew it for a second season?
Seriously, what ever happened to letting a show gain it’s audience and momentum? Most smart shows like this one take time. I think this show is very different and allows the audience to really think about what is there after life, even if you never thought about it before. The characters are amazing and I appreciate that they are not “typical”, just like each of us, I mean are you typical? I know I’m not. Please keep this show, there is not much else to watch that is smart and so well written and acted.
proof is perhaps one of the few dramas that I enjoy watching. I appreciate the series for it allowing the viewer to “think out side of the box” and for the viewing audience to become part of each episode. the cast is excellent. Jennifer beals NAILS the titled character of the series. Kyra sedgewick…what more is there to say or compare? the cast and the series are excellent together and the character “Zed” acting along side dr. tyler re both together are the team. my disappointment will be shown if TNT decides to cancel this series. any cancellation will only… Read more »
I like the show. If the geniuses at TNT decide to cancel this show ; maybe moving to Saturday night would be wiser. Not everyone goes out on Saturday and watching HDTV is making my wife crazy.
Thank you

Please listen to those of us who watch & DVR–one of the best of 2015!
Love this program…Jennifer Beals makes this show with her excellent portrayal of a grieving mother, a professional doctor, and an ex-wife. And who isn’t curious as to what happens after life as we know it? Please give this show another season!
really enjoyed watching the show on demand. Let’s have another season
It is a shame that networks make decisions the way they do. In today’s world something may not be watched during the first airing months because of so much competition. I just watched the first full season of Proof and I will be seeking it out now. Networks need better understanding of how people discover things. Thinking there is channel loyalty and people will discover something by watching commercials on the same network is short sighted. I was bored and I found it looking on an xfinity iPad app. Now I am hooked and want more so let’s hope network… Read more »
