Many medical dramas have succeeded on television and many more have failed. The Pure Genious TV show is a bit unique as it mixes medical cases with high tech. Is this a winning combination for CBS when it comes to the ratings? Is this TV series worth watching? Should Pure Genius be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
Pure Genius follows top medical professionals as they team up with cutting-edge tech experts and try to push the boundaries of modern medicine to save lives. Doctor Walter Wallace (Dermot Mulroney) is a disgraced but brilliant surgeon who is recruited by a young Silicon Valley tech billionaire, James Bell (Augustus Prew). Wallace learns that Bell is harboring a secret and he begins to question just what the young founder is really trying to achieve. Others on the team are played by Odette Annable, Reshma Shetty, Aaron Jennings, Ward Horton, and Brenda Song.
Pure Genius debuted on October 27th with a 1.05 rating in the coveted 18-49 demographic with 6.23 million viewers. It was not a good start and the show’s ratings have gotten even worse. The second episode dropped to a 0.88 rating with 5.37 million.
The numbers have risen and fallen a bit over the course of eight episodes that have aired so far. The show’s averaging a 0.9 demo rating with 5.39 million viewers. Pure Genius is currently CBS’ second-lowest rated scripted TV series (behind Elementary, which airs on Sunday nights at 10pm).
It’s already been revealed that CBS won’t be ordering any more episodes for season one of Pure Genius. Though the network hasn’t cancelled the show, it’s highly unlikely that CBS will be bringing it back for a second season either.
Pure Genius is off the schedule for the holiday but will return in a special timeslot on Sunday, January 1st, at roughly 9pm (it may be delayed because of football). The remaining installments will air on Thursday nights at 10pm. Right now, it looks like the (likely series) finale will air on January 26th.
But, what do you think? Do you like the Pure Genius TV show? Is the show better than the ratings seem to indicate? Should the network cancel or keep it?

This is a very good program. One of very few that I feel the whole family can watch because no violence, sex, bad language and the now prevailing lgbt character. The writing is exceptional the ensemble cast works well and the show is inspiring not decisive.
Please keep Pure Genius, it gives people hope that have medical issues. LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS SHOW. do what you can to keep this show.
Love, love, love Pure Genius! So much better than other medical shows on TV. These people have heart. They love what they do and who they are doing it for. It’s a KEEPER!!!
Please keep this show on the air. I LOVE IT. It gives me joy in a world with so much negativity. YOU PROBABLY ARE NOT CONSIDERING ALL OF US WHO DVR AND WATCH LATER. The best TV show I have seen in long time.
Good show, different, gives people hope that sickness can be reversed. Keep it on.
I love this show. With so much negativity in our society today, I find this show to be a bright light in the scope if human, science, technological and medical possibilities. A light to look forward to.

I love this show. It is fun to think that some of the medical technology could happen. It is like a medical Stars Trek.
Please keep it on!!! I love love it!! So does everyone in my home! Please renew!
I love this show! Please don’t cancel. Love all the actors, the futuristic, outside the box thinking, the heartwarming stories. I think we need a hopeful show like this. Please bring it back. Don’t let it go!
Please don’t cancel it. It’s one of the best shows out there. They do a lot of research for episodes and there is a lot of truth behind them. I also believe this is the future of healthcare. Please don’t cancel another one of my favorite shows after one season.
Keep this show on the air.
An intelligent and emotionally engaging show, a rarity. Keep it going, it’s good and well worth it. The cast and production is top notch! Don’t drop it!
This is low key but very, very good tv. The Thursday 10 pm time slot is ok but maybe move it around to give a wider audience some exposure.
Programs like this one sometimes need time to mature so please hang in with it!
I really love this series,it seems so many shows I so enjoy end up cancelled,I am a nurse so I absolutely love medical dramas. They touch my heart in so many ways, being a RN I can relate to many different things.I really hope the series isn’t cancelled.Great actors/actresses.Beautiful stories❤
Keep the show. I really enjoy the positive messages it projects. I agree with the other comment that CBS did not promote the show enough and placed the show on the wrong night.
