Many medical dramas have succeeded on television and many more have failed. The Pure Genious TV show is a bit unique as it mixes medical cases with high tech. Is this a winning combination for CBS when it comes to the ratings? Is this TV series worth watching? Should Pure Genius be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
Pure Genius follows top medical professionals as they team up with cutting-edge tech experts and try to push the boundaries of modern medicine to save lives. Doctor Walter Wallace (Dermot Mulroney) is a disgraced but brilliant surgeon who is recruited by a young Silicon Valley tech billionaire, James Bell (Augustus Prew). Wallace learns that Bell is harboring a secret and he begins to question just what the young founder is really trying to achieve. Others on the team are played by Odette Annable, Reshma Shetty, Aaron Jennings, Ward Horton, and Brenda Song.
Pure Genius debuted on October 27th with a 1.05 rating in the coveted 18-49 demographic with 6.23 million viewers. It was not a good start and the show’s ratings have gotten even worse. The second episode dropped to a 0.88 rating with 5.37 million.
The numbers have risen and fallen a bit over the course of eight episodes that have aired so far. The show’s averaging a 0.9 demo rating with 5.39 million viewers. Pure Genius is currently CBS’ second-lowest rated scripted TV series (behind Elementary, which airs on Sunday nights at 10pm).
It’s already been revealed that CBS won’t be ordering any more episodes for season one of Pure Genius. Though the network hasn’t cancelled the show, it’s highly unlikely that CBS will be bringing it back for a second season either.
Pure Genius is off the schedule for the holiday but will return in a special timeslot on Sunday, January 1st, at roughly 9pm (it may be delayed because of football). The remaining installments will air on Thursday nights at 10pm. Right now, it looks like the (likely series) finale will air on January 26th.
But, what do you think? Do you like the Pure Genius TV show? Is the show better than the ratings seem to indicate? Should the network cancel or keep it?

Keep. Best show ever !!!
Please keep. Pure Genius, great new show, we totally enjoy.
Pure Genius is one of the best shows out there – PLEASSSEEEEE don’t cancel. The acting is superb and the script one of the best I’ve witnessed. Give it time, it won’t take long before it’s a household name.
Please don’t cancel “Pure Genius”. It a true family show. I know many of my friends are just beginning to watch it and they love it. Please give it another season to catch on.
Keep it. This is the best show. It gives us hope. Move the time slot. Football is tough to compete with. This deserves another time slot
Pleeeeeeease don’t cancel Pure Genius!!!!! I love this show!!! Give it another season. I look so forward to seeing this show every week. The story lines are incredible and it evokes so many emotions. I also watch This is Us which is amazing and doing so well….. I like Pure Genius just as much. You need to market it better! How can Two Broke Girls keep going ( dumb as can be) and Pure Genius be in jeopardy of being cancelled? I don’t get it!
Please don’t cancel this show. Give it one more season to catch on. The characters are really starting to mesh. I know in a day and age of instant gratification the ratings must be of the chart from the hey go, but I think this shows following will steadily grow. I think greys anatomy also took a bit to grow as it was competing with ER, but look at it now. Please give it a chance to reach its potential!
You have to admit that with all the bad shows on television that Pure Genius is a breath of fresh air. Besides, we’re going to need shows that have uplifting themes for the next four years. A show that gives us hope. That’s Pure Genius.
I absolutely LOVE this show. It pulls at my heart strings every week and I can not wait till the next episode. I even got my boyfriend to watch with me even when he hates these types of Dramas. We are rooting for James and Zoe to be together even though it won’t happen. We are rooting for the a cure of his disease even though that is part of the show too. I hope they bring it back… maybe it could be a summer show instead of fall. It’s a great show!
Love the show. Though may be fiction; who knows. Maybe the cures or help the hospital comes up with will someday be a reality. Gives us all hope.
I do not think it is fair how major networks pull the plug on shows so quickly. It honestly leaves viewers to not even bother watching shows until they are in their 2nd season at the earliest. Why start watching a show you may get attached to if it will only get canceled. CBS, I’m talking to you! Give this show a chance! It is wonderful and witty. I love the cross over from medical to tech. It’s new and innovative. And the characters have a lot of depth. Do we really need another copy drama? Sure we all enjoy… Read more »
Keep the show it has so many good aspects and is a real feel good show. We should have more shows around
The good people do and less focus on reality crap.
Keep this show from Uk
This show is so good that I plan my entire Thursday around it. The name is perfect because it is in fact pure genius. I love the fact that they have pushed the limit on the medical communities limit. It gives hope to sick people. I think it’s being cancelled because there’s no crappy language, sex or gays. What a blessing of a show! Give us at least ONE show this is pure and clean. A show the whole family can watch. BRING IT BACK!!!!
I absolutely love this show. It’s a feel good show that offers great story lines combined with a touch of nostalgia to a time when you watch a show because you fell in love with the characters. It’s a show that restores your faith in humanity and a sense of caring for each other. In a world today, that is filled with horrible news and hatred, its refreshing to watch a show that helps us remember that good things can come from caring. Please give this show a chance. CBS, you need to keep this show.
