It doesn’t take a brilliant mind to have seen this coming. Today, it was revealed that CBS had officially cancelled Pure Genius after one season.
The drama follows top medical professionals as they team up with cutting-edge tech experts and try to push the boundaries of modern medicine to save lives. The cast includes Augustus Prew, Dermot Mulroney, Odette Annable, Reshma Shetty, Aaron Jennings, Ward Horton, and Brenda Song.
Early on, CBS decided not to order more episodes of Pure Genius, suggesting the show was headed for cancellation. Over the course of its first season, the series earned pretty low ratings, averaging a 0.86 in the 18-49 demo and only 5.34 million viewers.
Recently, star Augustus Prew said he thinks the show didn’t work because it underwent an identity crisis:
But if I’m being honest, I think we got caught between two different shows. I think CBS wanted something a little more procedural, and [executive producer] Jason [Katims, of Friday Night Lights/Parenthood fame] wanted something a little more character-driven.”
What do you think? Did you see Pure Genius? Do you think CBS should’ve renewed it for a second season?
This is truly upsetting. I have been waiting for season 2 to start only to find out that it was canceled. I loved the show and thought it was very innovative. Different. How are you going to leave the show with a cliffhanger! HOW DARE YOU! At least do a season 2 to give closure on the characters. That’s just not right.
I found this show very intriguing in that it showed medicine in a light other than just a bbusiness. The idea of alternative uses of establushed practices as well as the think tank solutions were captivating to me. I would love to see this show return.
Really liked a show that showed something positive instead of bed scenes, shootings, politically correct and the basic negative human society as it crumbles. Nice to see people looking to help one another to get something done . Imagine that, no vulgar or stupid low life joking nor some far fetched “reality” shows. Seems like everybody likes the vulture stuff and doesn’t really like to look at how little we do for each other in a helpful way.
I loved the show it showed people who has bad illness.I hated when you are watching the show everyone sleep with everyone.you should bring it back on and give another chance
I think it was a great show it let us know that there is still help out there if people
only put their minds and yes some money would help
Please reconsider this show. It was real a good show. There were pretty great medical revolutions practiced in this show. Even it has the perfect human touch to release the emotional area of the brain. I liked all the songs played in the background, from which my favourite one was from episode 11, Real by Majik. I would like to more seasons that promote more advanced future medical revolutions that we might have had never thought of.
I loved this show please bring it back
CBS whyyyyu!!! I really liked this show. It was amazing. Please renew it
I really enjoyed the show because it was different and fresh ! I was really looking forward to another season ! It was not pure genius to cancel it !!
Disappointed it was cancelled I really enjoyed it. It. didn’t get a chance
Excellent show! Loved how it pushed the boundaries of science and medical. I dvred the entire series to watch with my wife. I’m very disappointed that something as good as this gets canceled.
I also LOVED this show and was so looking forward to the next season and when I haven’t seen anything on, I googled it to see when it would be on again. PLEASE BRING IT BACK — I have told a number of people about it who were also interested.
I loved it. Very sad it was canceled. it was nice to watch something other than reality TV and something a little different for once
I loved the show and was waiting for the next season..
I loved this show. I thought it was a great change from the murder, mayhem and awful comedy shows and I’m so disappointed it has not been renewed by CBS. Give it a different time slot and I believe it will come through as a winner for CBS.
