FOX has a new family comedy, Raising Hope, on their schedule but it’s certainly nothing like ABC’s The Modern Family. How did it do in the ratings? Big numbers or immediate cancellation danger?
Raising Hope follows a young pool-cleaner (Lucas Neff) who becomes a father after a one-night stand with a female fugitive. The rest of the cast includes Garrett Dillahunt, Martha Plimpton, Shannon Marie Woodward, Skyler Stone, Bijou Phillips, and Cloris Leachman.
The sitcom debuted on Tuesday night at 9pm to an average 3.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 7.3 million total viewers. It was in third place in both categories. That’s pretty good, especially considering the competition in that timeslot.
However, it’s not so positive when you consider how much of its lead-in audience that Raising Hope lost. At the end of the season premiere episode of Glee, FOX had a 6.0 rating in the demo and 13.5 million viewers. Raising Hope lost nearly half of that audience.

What’s more, the sitcom lost 10% of its viewers halfway through the show. Those people probably won’t be back to watch future installments. It also doesn’t help that the sitcom that followed it, Running Wilde, is doing much worse.
While the numbers for Raising Hope might be good enough on their own, FOX is surely not pleased that it lost so many lead-in viewers.
The show’s future will ultimately be determined by how well it performs in the coming weeks. Right now, things don’t look good.

I love it.! Was just flipping through channels one night and BOOM there it was . First episode I saw was the vacumn cleaner episode and still have not seen the beginning of it. I have to say that I saw the 1st episode last week and it was not as funny as the other 2 episodes I have seen. Something more needs to be with the advertising. Love this show! It is light and funny – we are so tired of everything being so dramatic, complicated plot lines, crude language, etc. We love the humor in this show, and people who don’t like it probably don’t have kids or any kind of ‘real’ family life. We hope FOX keeps this – we are running out of shows to watch in our home!
That show has some of the best lines ever. You think it’s going to be the same old, but then pow, totally fresh and funny. I’m in serious admiration of the writing staff. And Cloris Leachman is a trip! That woman has no shame, I love it! Playing Jenga with the hoarder garage crap in her bra and orange stretch pants??? LOL

Rising Hope kept me laughing. Love the scene when Martha made a turn in the car, and the baby was not strapped down. So, funny! (First episode). Where is the Jersey maid?
Raising Hope is one of the best new sitcoms. It has so much humor but gives you heart-warming moments also. FOX is stupid if they let this slip through their fingers. I say, get rid of Running Wilde and make Raising Hope a full hour. They also need to do more advertising for it and maybe have some guest cameos. But like i tell everyone, we are in 2010 where anyone can watch a movie or tv show online (usually illegally) yet networks still go by the regular ratings system that was invented shortly after tv was invented. KEEPPER!!!!! We haven’t seen a show this funny in years!! The humor is fresh, it reminds me when Sanford & Son and Artchie came along.

KEEP IT!! This is the funniest show to come along in years! I have pretty much given up watching sitcoms as they are all so lame with canned laughter. Raising Hope is a winner, very creative and just plain hilarious!!

My husband laughed out loud at the smoking scenes . Hope it continues!!! Martha Plimpton is wonderful. Have always liked her. KEEP it a while longer.
