TV show description:
A legal drama, based on an Australian series of the same name, this show follows the comedic and chaotic life of a criminal defense lawyer. Keegan Deane (Greg Kinnear) is often described as many things but none of them are very flattering.
Brilliant and frustratingly charming, Keegan is one of life’s great addicts. His staggering lack of discretion and inability to self-censor land him the cases that nobody else will touch. Behind that lies a resolute optimism and belief in justice that fuel his dogged determination to defend those who seem beyond redemption.
He always tries to do the right thing, but at the same time struggles to save himself from the many self-destructive elements that plague his own life, such as his overindulgence in women, gambling and other excesses.
Keegan gets a majority of his cases from his best friend since law school, Ben Leon (John Ortiz). Ben’s married to Scarlet (Necar Zadegan), another of Keegan’s old friends. She’s an Los Angeles Assistant District Attorney and quite often Keegan’s opponent in court.
Keegan also has plenty of personal trials and tribulations, including his mounting debt to his bookie and his overlapping liaisons with various women. Melissa “Mikki” Partridge (Bojana Novakovic) is his favorite prostitute and de-facto love interest.
And then there’s his ongoing battle with the IRS. He’s being prosecuted by David Potter (David Harbour), an IRS tax attorney. He looks ten years younger than his age and has been nicknamed “Harry Potter” by Keegan.
Thankfully Keegan has Leanne Zander (Tara Summers), his no-nonsense assistant, to help clean up his messes. His ex-wife, psychologist Maddy (Miranda Otto), begrudgingly acts as his therapist. She’s also the mother of their hormonal son, Finn (Ian Colletti), who displays many of the same tendencies as his father.
Episode #13 — “Man’s Best Friend”
Keegan defends a close friend and well-respected doctor accused of animal cruelty, Scarlet’s campaign against David Potter takes a nasty turn when information about Mikki’s past gets leaked to the press and Ben gets tied up in a federal investigation when his firm’s finances are questioned.
First aired: April 5, 2014
What do you think? Do you like the Rake TV series? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for another season?
GREAT show. Decision to cancel needs to be revisited.
One of the best new shows this year. Great script, acting, no wonder it’s being pulled. WRONG DECISION !!!!!
TV executives’ reasoning for cancelling this show is totally flawed!!! This was a great show, very entertaining. The acting was excellent. I loved it!!! Bring it back.
It was a great show which was replaced with crap. You missed the boat on this one.
FOX really made a blunder when they cancelled this quality show. You never gave this show a chance! Greg Kinnear is a wonderful actor and was great on this show, a show with refreshing story lines, but the network didn’t see it that way. BIG mistake.
Rake was clever, naughty and full of twists and turns. Few shows can make me actually laugh out loud- Rake had me in stitches! What is wrong with mainstream America? In the meantime – ridiculous “not” reality shows continue to thrive- making fake drama queens into celebrities. Will miss Rake and Greg Kinnear- excellent role for him!
I don’t get it…………I loved Rake. Too many dumb reality shows.
BRING IT BACK!!!
Another good show that hasn’t been given a chance to catch on. I’ve decided to avoid new shows and wait to see if they are renewed, then I’ll have a marathons online to catch up. I’ve wasted too much time on new shows that are dumped way too early.
Great black comedy; Mr. Kinnear is a good actor, perfect for this role.
I loved Rake. Recorded all the shows. Just finished the last episode and I feel I am losing a friend. Bring that show back. One of the best shows I have seen. Great characters, silly stories and a great cast. my wife and I so looked forward to watching our recorded episodes, now they have all been watched. Very sad the show is gone. What can we do to bring it back?
Rake was a wonderful show. Greg Kinnear was perfect for the part. A black comedy which made the hour fly by. What is happening to TV. Maxwell and King is cancelled, now Rake is cancelled. All they throw at us are stupid realty shows. No imagination or creativity.
I loved the “Rake” series. Just like the Gifted man it was cancelled. What is happening?
I loved to see Greg Kinnear he is a great actor! Whoever decided to cancelled Rake must be in a mental institution or maybe jealous of Greg Kinnear. This was a great series and we truly miss it!
Rake should not have been cancelled. It was entertaining and funny and interesting. Why it was cancelled is beyond me while other shows much more boring go on and on.
Rake! Great show. Real close to reality, maybe even spot on. Anyway we really enjoyed this show, a bit decadent, but what isn’t now a days? Always some strange twist and turn. Please bring Rake back! We love Rake!
I have loved Greg K for years!! I thought this show was witty and entertaining without all the canned laughter that goes with shows. It has a strong cast too.
PLEASE bring it back !! We love it!!
