The doctor is out. The USA Network series, Royal Pains, will be ending after its upcoming eighth season, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The comedy-drama stars Mark Feuerstein as an ER doctor who relocates to the Hamptons as an on-call physician for wealthy clients. The series also stars Reshma Shetty, Brooke D’Orsay, Campbell Scott, Ben Shenkman, and Henry Winkler.
The cancellation doesn’t come as a complete shock. Ratings for Royal Pains have decreased over the past few seasons, with the last season only receiving an average of around 1.45 million viewers per episode.
Additionally, we reported earlier that the series’ lead, Feuerstein, has been cast in FOX’s upcoming Prison Break reboot series.
The final and eighth season of Royal Pains will premiere on May 18th at 10 p.m. It will include the series’ 100th episode and a special musical episode with Cloris Leachman.
From showrunners Andrew Lenchewski and Michael Rauch, in a press statement:
It’s with great sadness, but even greater thankfulness, that we prepare for our final summer sunsets as Royal Pains comes to an end. We couldn’t have imagined a more talented and dedicated writers’ room, cast, or crew, and we couldn’t have asked for better partners than USA Network and Universal Cable Productions. We want to thank Bonnie Hammer, Chris McCumber, Jeff Wachtel and every other member of our network and studio family for tirelessly supporting us over eight magical seasons, and more importantly, for giving us the opportunity to complete this series on our own terms. We’ll always have The Hamptons.”
What do you think? Are you a fan of Royal Pains? Are you sad to see it go? Will you watch the last season?
I also loved Paulo Constanzo – what a great actor! His comic timing is flawless – truly want to see more from this actor. The main characters in this show were all such fun to watch – all great acting.
I will miss this show SO much! I especially loved the relationship of the brothers – so sweet. Can’t say enough good things about this wonderful show (also loved seeing Campbell Scott!). I agree with Mary here – there isn’t anything as great to replace it!
I loved this show and can’t find anythingh as nice to replace it.
I think they ought to make a movie with the original cast and have a good love story and ending…..a good family movie……
I am a huge fan of Royal Pains. I even have Hank and Evan Bobbleheads. Please could you reconsider bringing back Royal Pains with all the original actors and actresses. I love the Hamptons. Royal Pains is and will always be a great TV Series.
I am so sad to see this end. it was a very enjoyable show that both my daughter and I will miss. it was a happy upbeat show. i hope it gets picked up on Netflix or Amazon.
Going to miss Royal Pains. It was a good non-violence show. That’s probably why it was canceled.
I love royal pains, I’m very sad to see it end.
Please donot cancell this program it keeps me motivated and happy . When I have had a long stressful day I turn on the tv and watch this my favorite show .
I will miss the show they already took off Mike and Molly, now this one. We don’t have enough family shows on . I will miss this one.
I’m so sad the show didn’t do so well. Every summer my mom & I would look forward to seeing it. This show was not like any of the other shows out their. They should try to bring back the show and have them just on Netflix or something. I will miss seeing you all. Always a fan. I know I’ll be crying this Wednesday when the finally comes. 🙁
Best of luck to you all. God Bless.
Love Royal Pains – it was my escape to the Hamptons! Love the cast and the show – hope it comes back.
I so sad that the show is being cancel I loved the show couldn’t wait for the summer to see the show
“Royal Pains” is the only show I watch faithfully. I can’t believe it is ending and I will miss this series terribly. Hope it comes back really soon. I can’t believe it got poor ratings. I LOVE it!!
Yes, we just rediscovered Royal Pains was on cable. I saw it 2 years ago on cable at my cousins in CO. but we only got cable in Roxie, MS. about 8 months ago. Do you know where i could get the DVDs?
All episodes are available on Netflix
I am very disappointed the show is ending. It was entertaining and something DIFFERENT which is one of the reasons I like it. It isn’t a “reality” show, cop show or CSI show. There was always an unexpected turn in the story which kept up the interest level.
