USA cancelled Rush and its troubled physician after one season but the doctor on Royal Pains isn’t going anywhere. The cable channel has renewed the summer drama for seasons seven and eight.
Royal Pains follows the continuing adventures of a former ER doctor (Mark Feuerstein) from New York who, along with his younger brother (Paulo Costanzo), runs a concierge doctor business in The Hamptons. The show’s cast includes Reshma Shetty, Brooke D’Orsay, Campbell Scott, and Ben Shenkman.
Like the rest of USA’s TV shows, Royal Pains was way down in the ratings this season. The 13 installments of season six averaged 2.02 million viewers with a 0.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic. Compared to season five, it was down by 43% in viewers and 35% in the demo.
Still, with little success in launching new programming and White Collar ending soon, a renewal for Royal Pains makes sense. Unless the ratings improve, it seems likely that Royal Pains will be ending with season eight.
There will be just eight episodes per season for years seven and eight and they’re likley to be spread across two summers. The order will see Royal Pains hit the 100th episode mark in season eight, more than enough installments for a healthy syndication package.
What do you think? Do you like Royal Pains on USA? Do you think it’s time for the show to end?
LOVE LOVE LOVE this sho!!!
I just started binge watching Royal Pains after Burn Notice and White Collar ended…I LOVE this show!! Good mix of drama, medical situations, comedy and beautiful scenery. The whole cast is so enjoyable. I wish it could continue for many years.
I really enjoy the show Evan is my favorite character. I hope they renew it for a least one more season. It’s one of the only decent shows left on TV. Come on USA keep Royal Pains, I’ve been a fan from the beginning and I’m still here patiently waiting on season 7 start date for 2015!
No No No please do not end this show. :((
I look forward to it every summer. I’ll
take the 8-10 eps pack. It gives me something
to look forward too on late hot summer nights
when nothing else is on. Burn notice is already
missed by this avid TV watcher. NOT ANOTHER
ONE PLEASE. If the actors want to do the show
let the show go on.

Please do not cancel it !!!!!
I am totally addicted to Royal Pains because it is fun entertainment with sexy and appealing characters (Mark F. and Campbell Scott to name two). I like the family dynamic, the fabulous location settings, the scenic location and the humor of this show. I also like the fact that all of the medical “McIverisms” are actually based in fact and could actually happen. I only hope that cutting it to shorter seasons and moving it around will not cause the fan base to further erode. There is so much junk on TV, I actually turn if off more than on… Read more »
This looks like typical programming idiotic ********. We’ve got a show that’s loosing ratings (due in large part to the demise of consistent season time frames). So to recover those ratings, let’s move the show all over the place. Let’s spread out the “seasons” so that Royal Pains is rarely on two weeks in a row. Yea, that’s smart. I used to want to be a weatherman because they keep their job no matter how often they’re wrong, but Jesus!, I honestly think now I want to be a network programmer because it’s obviously a cushier, much easier gig.
Nail on the head!!
I love royal pains. It took several episodes but I’m hooked. I would hate to see it go.
I like Royal Pains but can live without it… I’d much prefer they had renewed White Collar.
I love Royal Pains. I love Evan R. Lawson. I love Divya’s clothing and SHOES. The show must go on. Please
It doesn’t really matter to me if Season 8 ends up being the last season for “Royal Pains”, with these short season orders and declining viewership. Also, I bet the next series on the USA Network to make it to eight seasons and/or 100 episodes is “Suits”.
Please DO NOT CANCELL Royal Pains – our family loves this show!

I love the show “Royal Pains”, please keep it going.
Love all the characters. My favorite summer show.
I will miss White Collar…I love that show as well.
I look forward to seeing Royal Pains each summer. Wish it would last longer.
I have a feeling Royal Pains may end after eight seasons or possibly go beyond nine.
I’ve watched this show from the beginning, and enjoyed it over the years, but at this point neither its quality nor its ratings justify renewal. Just goes to show how bad things are for USA right now.
I really enjoy Royal Pains and hope for more than eight seasons.
