AMC has decided to cancel Rubicon after one season of 13 episodes.
Billed as a conspiracy thriller, Rubicon is set in a government intelligence agency where nothing is as it seems. The cast includes James Badge Dale, Dallas Roberts, Jessica Collins, Christopher Evan Welch, Lauren Hodges, Arliss Howard, and Miranda Richardson.
The TV show was previewed back in June and attracted a 0.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 1.07 million viewers. When the series officially kicked off in August, the demo dropped to a 0.3 rating with 1.9 million viewers. The demo dropped to a 0.2 after that and the whole season averaged a 0.3 rating and 1.25 million viewers.
That wasn’t enough for AMC to want a second season and the cable channel has now cancelled the series.
Of the cancellation decision, AMC released the following statement, “Rubicon’ gave us an opportunity to tell a rich and compelling story, and we’re proud of the series. This was not an easy decision, but we are grateful to have had the opportunity to work with such a phenomenally talented and dedicated team.”
The 13th and final episode of Rubicon aired on October 17th.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that it’s been cancelled? What would you liked to have seen in season two?

What!!! Rubicon was excellent. What a waste!
Rubicon was my favorite series! Great plot! Great Acting! There is so much on TV not worth watching. I am very disappointed that you cancelled the show!
Our family is very disappointed that AMC did not give Rubicon a chance. It was so thought provoking and full of intrigue. I looked forward each week to watching the show – wish someone would consider bringing it back.
We LOVED Rubicon’s first season (characters, plot, dialogue) and have been eagerly waiting to hear when season 2 would begin. Please reconsider. This is a show that is excellent, really excellent on all fronts! Help!!! Why did it get the four leaf clover?
This was the best show on tv! AMC was the perfect network for this type of show. Can’t believe they cancelled it. What they should have done was give it more promoting like they did for Walking Dead. (Which I love btw.) Sooo disappointed! Give it another chance please!!!
How sad that this show is cancelled as it was one of the best suspense dramas I’ve seen and eagerly looked forward to each episode. Perhaps another network will pick it up and give it the promotion it deserves.
Why won’t Rubucon be sold to someone who will air it?
Unbelievably incredible show. But with all really really great shows, the networks cancel them. I’m hoping I live long enough to the point where the internet makes television and networks obsolete and all shows are decided by fan-based support on the internet, and not determined by the advertisers or brainless networks.
I was a fan of Rubicon when the pre-release hit HULU. I was sooo stoked to watch it there since my kids OWN the prime-time hours on both of my TVs, only to be disappointed by AMC’s decision to pull it from airing on their site. When I finally did get to catch up, I was hooked. I couldn’t get enough, so I had to re-watch it. I was thrilled by the season finale and was SURE there’d be another season. Damned shame AMC. This is/was one of the smartest shows on television… So much for counting on your network… Read more »
We just found this show online, stayed awake and watched 8 shows one night and finished up the next. This show has all the good stuff, Great acting, writing and directing.
reminds me of some of the greats Hill Street Blues Etc. WE want Will and company to route all the bad guys out in the open, find out that his wife was killed in the works and return the company back to doing real helpful stuff.
I echo the comments above about this being the best drama on TV. I too like shows such as Breaking Bad but its drama pales into insignificance compared to this series. There are not too many dramas on TV, mostly British, where the silence of a scene is as significance as dialogue. This series is now destined to cult status in the vault.
I loved RUBICON. One of the few shows I watched last year. It can’t be cancelled!!!
loved it, but the burn was just too slow, and the conspiracy lacked some charisma too i suppose 🙁
Rubicon was one of the few shows that I enjoyed on TV. It seems like all the shows I like get canceled.
Rubicon was the only show I watched last year. Rivetting acting, great plot. NOTHING competes with it. What is the matter with you, AMC? Promote it and back a really fine show. How depressing. Here it is, midnight on Jan 1, and I realized that I didn’t yet know when the new season would start. It doesn’t seem likely that you have a better series in your pocket. Is AMC committing suicide on purpose? Bonkers.
I’m really disappointed too that Rubicon was cancelled. I started watching the show because of James Badge Dale (loved his work in The Pacific), and because it was on the amc network which I believed would give the show at least a fighting chance at a second season. Boy was I wrong! Unfortunately, I think amc got a taste of success with Breaking Bad and Mad Men – and as a result, an intellectual show like Rubicon didn’t stand a chance because it didn’t have the same “shock” factor (and just for the record amc, I am a huge fan… Read more »
