AMC has decided to cancel Rubicon after one season of 13 episodes.
Billed as a conspiracy thriller, Rubicon is set in a government intelligence agency where nothing is as it seems. The cast includes James Badge Dale, Dallas Roberts, Jessica Collins, Christopher Evan Welch, Lauren Hodges, Arliss Howard, and Miranda Richardson.
The TV show was previewed back in June and attracted a 0.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 1.07 million viewers. When the series officially kicked off in August, the demo dropped to a 0.3 rating with 1.9 million viewers. The demo dropped to a 0.2 after that and the whole season averaged a 0.3 rating and 1.25 million viewers.
That wasn’t enough for AMC to want a second season and the cable channel has now cancelled the series.
Of the cancellation decision, AMC released the following statement, “Rubicon’ gave us an opportunity to tell a rich and compelling story, and we’re proud of the series. This was not an easy decision, but we are grateful to have had the opportunity to work with such a phenomenally talented and dedicated team.”
The 13th and final episode of Rubicon aired on October 17th.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that it’s been cancelled? What would you liked to have seen in season two?

Intriguing! More, please.
I watch quite a bit of television, I select shows that seem interesting and then I watch them.
Rubicon was one of the shows that stood out: unusual approach, good acting, good writing, intriguing characters, good plot and lots of intelligent mystery.
Sometimes ratings should not dictate next seasons: if you like your own shows, you should have the guts to go for it, promote it better or get written about. If you truly mean what you say, AMC, you give Rubicon another go. It is so worth it.
to bad they cancel one of the best tv shows.
as a contra act I will not watch mad men anymore.
I will quit watching tv.
The marketing department should be cancelled — NOT the show. Is there a white night to step up to the plate and pick up the pieces.
This was dum on AMC part, It was far better the 24, maybe to revive Rubicon they need to bring on broad a token zozbie.
I thought the show was wonderful. I am so sorry that it was canceled!
Although slow moving at times, Rubicon had an intelligent, intruiging plot (with a fine cast) that deserved a second season to bring the story to its proper conclusion. Perhaps it catered too much to the more cerebral viewer and not enough to the “bread and circusses” crowd! Sad to see it go!
Another example of thoughtful, compelling drama getting the axe. The program was rich in mystery, suspense and complexity. Perhaps too complex for some, and at times difficult to follow week to week. It’s dialogue rich plots as opposed to Jerry Bruckheimer type “blow ’em to bits,” plot lines perhaps moved people away. But it was an excellent show that should have been given another season. Sad to see it disappear.
Terrible decision. Done with AMC as this was the only good show they had. AMC should go the Reality TV Crap route since they kick people who like to think in the head by sucking them in with such an interesting show and then ending it without resolution. Screw you AMC.
With all the channels to chose from. Why do shows get canceled if they had 700,ooo to a million views. stop getting greedy. With a show as deep as this. Its compelling. This and terriers getting canceled is upsetting!!!!!!! I am getting sick of watching shows then 1 season later they are gone. Especially good TV. That’s what i like. Keep with the cook and realty it says these stations think only brainless people like television.
Why is it that TV Shows like Rubicon get cancelled after the first season? My wife and I tried to find details about the next season only to read that it was cancelled???? Whatever happened to nurturing something that may not be understood now but will reveal itself later? How are networks going to develop good bodies of work if they kill them off every time they get scared that their viewership will drop below 1.25 million. This is the third show that was smart, well thought out and intriguing that was simply cancelled. AMC will never play with the… Read more »
I’m really disappointed that this show was canceled. There was no conclusion at all. It was the only show I ever watch on AMC. I watched every episode too. I must say I havent, and don’t really plan to watch the station again. I hope they realize they made a mistake one day, and bring it back.
I don’t see how a great show like Rubicon can not be renewed for a second season….It is a show you really had to get involved in ….it made you think. It’s intriguing and intelligent! That’s probably why it failed. With all the ridiculous shows on TV….this one was different. I recorded every episode and watched it twice and I still have them recorded. This really is upsetting and disappointing….maybe another network could snag it up! Let’s hope so!
Seems unfair that the show was not brought to a conclusion! This was one of the few things my husband and I watched on AMC. I agree with another viewer, that in the future we will not watch any oher series on AMC fearing that the same thing will happen and we will have wasted our time……!
I thought this show was superb!! I am totally disappointed in its cancellation. First show in ages that engaged the audience with thinking through the plot, fantastic acting, suspense. PLEASE. Someone bring this back somewhere.
Only fault, not enough advertising prior to the debut to entice the audience.
