Was tonight’s episode the end for the Salvation TV show? Viewers of the CBS summer drama series were likely shocked by tonight’s finale and it seems unlikely that the cliffhanger will ever be resolved. Do you think the network should renew Salvation for a third season, despite some very low ratings?
A CBS suspense drama, Salvation, stars Santiago Cabrera, Jennifer Finnigan, Charlie Rowe, Jacqueline Byers, Melia Kreiling, Ashley Thomas, and Ian Anthony Dale. The thriller follows MIT graduate student Liam Cole (Rowe) and tech genius Darius Tanz (Cabrera), who discover that in six months, a huge asteroid will crash into the Earth. In season two, the truth is out. Now that it is no longer a secret, the impending threat elicits both the best and worst from humanity.
The TV series debuted in July 2017 and drew pretty mediocre ratings right from the start with a 0.70 rating in the 18-489 demographic and 4.90 million viewers. The numbers didn’t get any better as the season progressed and ended up averaging a 0.52 in the demo with 3.53 million. Despite the lackluster ratings, Salvation scored a second season renewal.
In season two, the ratings have been even lower. The 12 episodes that have aired thus far have averaged a 0.33 demo rating with 2.67 million viewers. Compared to the first season’s numbers, that’s down by 38% and 24%, respectively.
It’s unclear if CBS Television Studios has a special streaming deal that would help reduce some of the production costs for this series (ala Zoo) but it seems clear that the regular commercial ratings aren’t strong enough to land Salvation a third season.
But, what do you think? Do you think that Salvation should be cancelled or, renewed for a third season — despite the low ratings? Would you watch season three?
Salvation is a Great Show. Please give us a Salvation 3.
Bring it on! When I look at some of the TV shows that KEEP getting renewed while others don’t, I fear for the intelligence of the TV consuming public. So, yeah, let’s see where this one goes.
Salvation should have another season. The characters are interesting and so is the plot line, in spite of some slower episodes and extra sub-plots that did not advance the main storyline. I would watch another season if it existed.
I cannot believe Liam went back to that IDIOT Jillian, who handed off the rail gun plans to a terrorist. Srsly? In the finale, after sleeping with another woman who suits him better the night before? DUH. But still, yes. There is not enough good sci-fi on television, and I agree with others that by airing most episodes in July/August they are not giving the series enough of a chance to get ratings.
About Liam & Jillian..I certainly agree. My comment said the same about the show being in the wrong season.
I really like Salvation. I will continue to watch it. Exciting, unpredictable, good character.
Yes, I really like the show and think it should be renewed. It is one of the better shows on network TV
So yes to Season 3. The suspense has been building and a no-option has been handed down or has it? Very good show. However I would say to get out of bed(s) and get on with the original plot, to save the world. The relationship stuff is boring and repetitive. Give Salvation another go in Season 3.
Yes please renew it, it is one of the best show currently IMO, and that ending was mindblowing. I eagerly await to find out what happens next !!!
Very weak acting. Every show now has people jumping in and out of bed, but really with weeks to impact? Tighten up the script, keep the focus and they can walk back from the edge and have a go at a stronger season 3. So, give it another season.
My family and I enjoy it despite it’s low ratings. We vote Yes on season 3! Seriously, leave us with an object hovering over the Earth with no explanation of what it is, why it’s here and what it will do???? More Salvation Please!!!!!
Salvation has been fun interesting suspensfull its time to get real people to rate the shows this one is a winner!!!!
Season 3 please….this show is great and the acting is superb!
Yes another season. Summer is hard to judge with longer days one does not watch more tv. I record it and watch later. Love it. Please renew at least 1 more to find out exactly what it was.
I signed up for CBS All Access to get Star Trek Discovery. That’s a disappointment. I kept it for Salvation, but if it is cancelled I see no reason to keep paying monthly.
I’m kind of in the take it or leave it camp on this one. A closer would be nice as long as it 1) discloses/explains the contents of the asteroid without any new and convoluted plot lines (we just dropped in to say “hi” would be fine), and 2) destroys the Arc and kills off the uncle and all of his cronies – alternatively they all get life at hard labor on a chain gain (or equivalent) without any possibility or pardon or parole.
