TNT has announced that their Holly Hunter drama is coming to an end. Interestingly, it wasn’t exactly the network’s decision. But, regardless of who’s responsible, the fans will have to wait quite awhile to see the story wrap up.
Saving Grace focuses on a police detective, Grace Hanadarko (Holly Humter), wo’s great at her job but finds her personal life far more challenging. The series also features Leon Rippy, Kenny Johnson, Bailey Chase, Laura San Giacomo, Gregory Cruz, Lorraine Toussaint, Dylan Minnette, Bokeem Woodbine, Mark L. Taylor, and Tom Irwin.
The show debuted in July 2007 and attracted 6.4 million viewers, making it the highest-rated cable premiere so far that year.
Season two’s debut attracted 5.2 million and, this past June, season three’s return drew just 3.5 million. TNT remained very positive about the series, likely because it consistently rates first with adults 25-54.

Last season, the network ordered a second season of 15 episodes. The first nine aired during the Summer of 2008 and the other six began running last March. TNT ordered the same number for season three and the first grouping finishes its summer cycle this Tuesday.
According to THR, TNT wanted to pick the series up for a fourth season but Fox TV Studios actually declined the offer. The drama is an expensive one to produce and there’s apparently not enough profit in the cable deal for the studio to continue.
A spokesperson for Fox told Variety, “In today’s rapidly changing television world, shows need to drive revenue off too many sources in order to be profitable for all the partners. Unfortunately, the economics of the series mandated stronger international and ancillary revenue than the show was able to generate. We thought an appropriate ending after three extremely successful seasons was the best outcome for all parties involved.”
Since the series has several ongoing storylines, Fox and TNT agreed to produce three additional episodes to wrap up any loose ends. The network will combine them with the remaining installments from this season and hold them until next Summer. So, fans will get some closure to the series but they’ll have to wait a few extra months to get it.
Michael Wright, TNT’s Executive VP head of programming, is sorry to see the show end. In a statement, he said, “The show’s continued success is thanks to the amazing talents of Holly Hunter and [series creator] Nancy Miller, along with a tremendous ensemble cast and a highly skilled production team. They have taken us on a unique journey, and we look forward to seeing where it will ultimately lead.”
What do you think? Are you ready t say goodbye to Grace Hanadarko? Would you like to see the cast return, perhaps in TV movies?

As a long time TV wacher(age 70) finding a quality show, such as Saving Grace, is a real pleasure. Holly Hunter, in my opinion is the driving force in the series and deserves all the kudos availabe. Our society is in sorry shape indeed when the almighty dollar drives over some quality art. Whats new. Good luck Holly, I kn ow you’ll surface from this stronger than ever.
I hate that this show has been cancelled . I rushed come from work just to catch the repeat showing at 12 pm because I work nights and I also went out a purchase all of the seasons available on dvd because I was scared I had missed something. The networks are pulling all of the good tv in favor of the reality crap. I am begining to hate tv networks.\
I am extremely pissed off that Saving Grace is not going to be renewed and that we have to wait until summer to find out the end. This sucks. Who decides this crap anyway?
I totally agree! This was the best show in a long time to come along. I can’t even watch “closer” commercials. Her fake accent is so annoying that I can’t believe anyone can take that character serious. Grace has real character, real problems and is funny and sexy too! Why do all the crappy shows last forever and the good ones get dropped. Screw TNT, i’ll watch another channel! Big Mistake Idiots!
Who decides this crap? Money hungry people who already have WAY too much money and don’t give a crap about the viewers or the quality of the programs that they air. They are contributing to the dumbing down of America. We should all boycott their other shows so that they fail abyssmally (sp?) Pissed would be an undertstatement of how I feel. I looked forward to EVERY episode and waited not very patiently for the next season. BTW… the profit mongers won’t read any of this anyway, BECAUSE THEY DON’T CARE. They would rather cater their programming to people with… Read more »
I LOVE GRACE and I’m heartbroken that my friends and I will miss out on our Monday (then Tuesday) get togethers to laugh and marvel at our favorite show!
I cant understand why the network would pull a show like grace. It with the closer was the only thing that was any good on tnt. Now are they going to stop the closer if they do the will lose what is left of there fan base. Just lets every body know that the all mighty dollar is more important than the viewers.
Cancelling the show Saving Grace has to be the worst decision since that dumb coach of the Indiana Colts decided to ruin a perfect season and I’m not even a Colts fan. They can renew that Jada Pinkett Smith crap but cancel the good stuff. Grateful that someone picked up Southland but does this mean no more Grace, I prefer Grace, Rhetta, Ham, Benny and the rest of the gang. I’m tired of the same vanilla boring characters, Saving Grace at least gives you some variety. I’ll buy the DVDs and just have to be satisfied with that, IDIOTS!!!!
Do the jerk-oids at the networks realize how many of us tivo or dvr television shows? Is that part of the ‘ratings info’ that they gather when looking a viewership numbers? I haven’t failed to record an episode of Saving Grace since it started, but seldom watch it when it’s being aired . . . .
Sure.. take this one off the air too. I don’t watch that much tv, but to put Saving Grace up against The Closer, and to eliminate her is a real shame. I don’t even watch the
Closer because it is not real to life.
Just like the Home Front sitcom, just brushed off the air for no apparent reason.
Miss you Grace, Reta, Leon (who should have come back as an angel), and that wild angel. The whole cast was GREAT!!!
Once again the powers that be dangle a program I love like a carrot and I follow it religiously, never missing a single episode, then BAM! the jerks punish my loyalty by taking it off the air. As for many of the comments about Grace’s being a discredit to the OCPD, I beg to differ. Nowhere in the show has there been even the slightest allusion to the possibility that all the female officers on the force are like Grace. On the contrary, even her best friend is a “saintly soul” who routinely gives Grace the devil for her behavior… Read more »
i completely agree
How totally disappointing it is to lose our favorite guardian angel and his unruly charge. Saving Grace is one of the best shows on television and I’m very saddened that it’s being terminated. The entire cast of characters are so individual yet blend together so well. I cried crockadile tears when Reta came to Grace after finding proof of her cheating husband and made Grace promise she’d never make another woman hurt that way. Every episode has a major message, sometimes you have to watch it more than once to get the full benefit. I will really miss my Grace,… Read more »
i am very disappointed that they are yet taking off a great show!!!! leaving us with boring tv. or another stupid reality tv. it’s to bad if it offended people get over it and turn the channel!!!! all of us at the office couldn’t wait until this show was on and then spend the morning talking about it. how about this why don’t they take off some of the stupid drool they try to shove at us and leave the best show on tv (and also the closer, it will probably be next) if you remove the drool then you… Read more »
I love this show and will really miss it. The trouble with some people is they can’t handle reality!! No one is perfect not even law enforcement!! No place is without some kind of crime. I love Oklahoma it’s a great place to live. I think it’s great that they included God in the show. I will definitely miss Saving Grace!!!!!!!!
This was the most interesting and original TV show I’ve ever seen. Every episode was awesome, and the character development was excellent. There has never been anything like it, and probably never will again. Too bad we have to lose a great show because it all boils down to profits
I love this show. Of course, it will be taken off the air now. Grace -what a great character! She is real.
I will be disappointed to see this show end. The character was dealing with a lot of s– in her life in her own way , as most of us do. Who are we to judge another’s way of coping. It was gritty but realistic. But typical of TV, the better shows are dropped because reality crap shows are cheap. But I guess the reality shows get viewers and that is all the stations like FOX care about. When your life sucks, people like to watch others worse off.And I guess a lot of lives suck right now.
