Due to difficult contract talks, it looked like the Shameless TV show might be cancelled after its seventh season on Showtime, or return without star Emmy Rossum, who was holding out for pay parity. In the end, all parties were able to arrive at an agreement, so the Gallagher family is back for its eighth season. How long will viewers have a ringside seat to their dysfunction? Will Shameless be cancelled or renewed for season nine? Stay tuned.
A black comedy, Shameless follows alcoholic father Frank Gallagher (William H. Macy) and his six resilient, self-reliant kids who scramble to survive without him. In addition to Macy and Rossum, the Showtime series also stars Ethan Cutkosky, Shanola Hamptom, Jeremy Allen White, Steve Howey, Emma Kenney, Cameron Monaghan, Isidora Goreshter, and Christian Isaiah. This year, recurring guest stars include Jessica Szohr, Faran Tahir, Elliot Fletcher, and Scott Michael Campbell.
In Shameless, season eight, Franks lays off the drugs and decides to work for a living. Meanwhile, Fiona (Rossum) realizes her success as a landlord comes at a price for others. As Lip (White) struggles with sobriety’s sacrifices, Ian (Monaghan) wants to win back Trevor (Fletcher), and Debbie (Kenney) juggles single motherhood with work and welding school. After losing his scholarship, Carl (Cutkosky) has to find another way to finance his tuition, while Liam (Isaiah) starts to understand how different his family is from those of his schoolmates. In addition, Kev (Howey) and V (Hampton) look for a way to handle things with Svetlana (Goreshter), after she swipes their bar, The Alibi.

What do you think? Do you still like the Shameless TV show? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a ninth season on Showtime?
11/8 update: Shameless has been renewed for season nine on Showtime. Details here.
Love love.love shameless all their seasons are the greatest i would give them a 5 out of 5 star rating best show ever should keep around for atleast till season 15
Best show in the history of television, so glad that it will have a 9th season and reach the pivotal 100 episodes, which is difficult for any show, let alone a premium cable show.
The only way I will continue to watch is if they bring Mickey back and make it right between Ian and Mickey. They deserve their happy ending. Get rid of Trevor! Go back to the old Ian this new Ian is pathetic. It’s losing it south side shameless roots bring back the Milkovich family and make it better again.
Only renew it if they bring Mickey Milkovich back. The premiere was slow moving and boring and I don’t care about Fiona’s latest career attempt and it made no sense whatsoever that Ian is trying to get back with Trevor months after leaving his true love at the Mexican border-plus they’re writing that storyline with a very stalker-ish feel and it was both creepy and boring.
We must have watched different shows, cause the season premiere was fantastic as always and obviously the ratings reflect it. They’re up nearly 50% for a reason.
Actually higher ratings for the first ep mean nothing. The main reason for that was because of prior filming in Chicago where fans saw them in person and it created publicity. No one knew tuning in what the episode would be like so viewership of season premiere doesn’t equal good episode.
