Back when it debuted, it looked like FOX might have a hit with Sleepy Hollow. It had a strong debut but the ratings got worse and worse over the course of its first two seasons. In the spring, network execs renewed it for a third season, despite the fact that the ratings were down about 40% year-to-year. They then scheduled it on Thursday nights, a notoriously competitive evening for television. Could the numbers possibly rise this season or will they drop lower? Does FOX care anymore? (Do viewers?) Cancelled or renewed for a fourth season? Stay tuned.
A supernatural police drama, Sleepy Hollow follows Ichabod Crane (Tom Mison), a patriot who was killed 230 years ago. He finds himself resurrected in modern-day and partners with a female police lieutenant (Nicole Beharie). The cast also includes Lyndie Greenwood, Shannyn Sossamon, Nikki Reed, Lance Gross, and Zach Appelman.
The ratings are typically the best sign of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
4/8 update: After the third season finale shocker, do you think this show should be renewed for a fourth season?
4/9 update: You can see the latest night’s ratings in context.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
For comparisons: The second season of Sleepy Hollow averaged a 1.55 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.57 million total viewers.
Note: These are the final national numbers (unless noted with an “*”). These are different from the fast affiliate numbers which are just estimates of the actual ratings and are reported on by most other outlets. The final nationals are typically released within 24 hours of the programming or, in the case of weekends and holidays, a couple of days later.
What do you think? Do you still like the Sleepy Hollow TV show? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for a fourth season?
This web site is named ” TV series Finale Cancelled TV shows and endings” so it is nice to see viewers come to pay their respects for the soon to be cancelled shows.
I love Sleep Hollow. It seems all the decent shows get cancelled in favor of the more boorish lower quality shows for people who are entertained by watching a clock tick by (in other words, easily entertained). I don’t understand why people don’t realize characters must evolve. There was a time-skip between. Crane isn’t going to stay 1930’s forever. He has to blend in and get more comfortable in the current era. If they stay Crane-Abby, it’s going to get dull, so naturally they’re going to have to pursue other relationships. I’m a Bones watcher and while I was “eh”… Read more »
I feel your pain. SH is not the history channel. It is more a monster mash. Brain food, I don’t think so. Sorry for your loss.
I love this show
I don’t understand the numbers game, as I believe they are incorrect I’ve been paying attention to each weeks daily numbers on all shows. I am surprised on how many of the top watched shows are taking hits with less viewers. I know we are up against sports, football, ice hockey, basketball which all change the numbers and yet there are shows that are not taking hits which I have tried to watch and find them geared to people with low IQ”s. Ok, they are for families with younger children, but what about adult families? Families who enjoy something more… Read more »
McDonnell’s could care less if your IQ is high or low, or if your kids are smart or dumb. As long as you buy a happy meal, they stay open. Networks have to have shows that viewers like enough to keep showing up each week so that can sell advertising time. SH lost half of its viewers from the first season to the second season. The second season had about a million and a half more viewers than the third season. I have no idea of those viewers IQ ‘s, . But, if your car shed parts like that, you… Read more »
I loved the First Season. THe Second Season was rough, but the last two or three episodes redeemed it. Episode One of Season three, about 28 minutes into it, I realized I had lost interest. The show is not what it was, I turned it off and have not watched it since. They should never have gotten rid of James Noble’s character.
The writers have ruined my favorite show bring back the old Icabod with a pony tail
I like the show, I’m with Bewitched Sleeper, Jesus if you don’t like the show DON’T WATCH!! WE DON’T CARE WHAT YOU THINK!!!!!
I am glad you like the show, but that is not my point. It is a numbers game. Advertisers like for someone to advertise to. They pay the bills. They can’t sell you that acne cream you need, unless you watch. You could have the best show in the world, but if you are an advertiser, and numbers are low, you will spend you millions somewhere else. If you like the show so much, you should try to get someone to actually watch it. Falling numbers insure it is doomed. Just look where it was and where it is. Pretty… Read more »
Sleepy Hollow is like a plane with no wings. What is keeping it in the air? ET could do a Where are They Now episode on the actors, and no one would be surprised. AMC has The Walking Dead, Fox has the real Dead show, Sleepy Hollow. The smell of decomposition is taking awhile to wash off the Fox line up. Time to bury that pig and try a new dish. What about a reality show on how Fox executives hide their shame while making one stupid mistake after another? You could call it Bumbling Idiots on steroids. Now everyone… Read more »
I love Sleepy Hollow, but the show has been so disrespected. You cannot stay off the air 7 to 8 months and think your previous audience is going to stick around. There should have been a more aggressive production schedule. Also not staying focused on the relationship between Ichabod and Abbie has hurt the show. They look good together. Why are the writers avoiding the chemistry between these two? It’s sad that such a good show may be on its way out. I say take it to TNT, AMC, FX etc., if it doesn’t work out at FOX.
I don’t think YouTube would take the show at this point. Maybe the very last show, which will be very soon, will be a killer. Ichabod is the only actor with any talent left. His agent should move him away from this nightmare, and send him to the big screen. Otherwise, he could end up on one of those bottom feeding networks where the rest of the cast and writers will end up
I am not a rabid fan! I am a highly educated person as are most of my family and friends. We enjoy the storyline, it takes us away from our high stress jobs, bringing us into a world better than all that reality tv. I just oppose people who make claims on a show they obviously don’t like, as I don’t like many shows. I don’t watch the shows I don’t like, and don’t post comments on shows I don’t like!
Talk about a stressed job, how would you like explain these ratings numbers to a network. SH is mindless entertainment for sure. But, no one is watching it. If they want more young viewers, moving the show to Friday night at 8 is a death sentence. Who wants to stay at home on Friday night and watch a silly, cheesy, poorly produced night time soap opera? I think you and your friends will like the replacement show much better. At this rate. it should be coming soon.
I wish all you people who don’t like this show would stop watching it! My family and friends love it!
Poorly-adapted premise, untalented lead actress, every one else chewing the scenery. Plus the online fandom is so rabid for the two mains to boink onscreen that they tear anyone apart who even SUGGESTS they’re not into Ichabbie. If you wondered where the fandom went, there’s your answer. Just contradictions, fuzzy logic, lack of charisma, and hostile fans all the way in this show. I’m amazed it got a season 2, much less 3!
Tara9, you have hit the nail right on the head. Look I think the chemistry between Crane and Abbie is what makes people tune in. That being said, I come from the time where the show “Moonlighting” was a killer in the ratings due to the chemistry/sexual tension between Cybil Shepherd and Bruce Willis. People tuned in religiously week after week to watch a really good show but to also see if Maddie and David would hook up. This was long before “shipping” was ever named “shipping”. When Maddie and David finally wound up in bed the chemistry/sexual tension and… Read more »
Should have ended with death of moloch. Season 3 A major yawn. Forget ichabod abd abbiE, the best thing on this turkey is a revolutionarY war soldier looking at the 21st century with amusing disdain.
When does the mid-season final episode air? The show has gone from headless to brainless. The story lines are beyond stupid. They tried to get Bones fans to watch it. They could not take more than the Halloween episode. Who could blame them. I have friends in high school who could write, film, and edit better than that using their cell phones. Now i understand why the best actors left the show. They wanted to save their careers. Who in their right minds would want to be associated with Sleepy Hollow anymore? The only reason I can see for Fox… Read more »
The show is SO bad I couldn’t finish the episode. Poor acting from the actress that plays Abbie, her overacting is cringeworthy and the actor that plays the ichabod is criminally underused! He’s amazing. The ratings are so bad it’s like FOX just wants to embarrass the leads by having such a crap show air. When they cancel the show I think Ichabod will be fantastic on film but the others will struggle to get jobs unfortunately.
Omg why do they always do this to me! I’m really hoping it doesn’t get canceled! It’s such an amazing series, def unlike anything else on TV right now which makes it that much better! I think that Fox should consider moving Sleepy Hollow to another night of the week, it’s no secret that Thursday night is an extremely competitive night!
Well Jen you got your wish. Starting in February after the mid-season break SH goes to Friday nights at 8pm. So hopefully that will give it enough ratings to give them a 4th season. I think Fox is trying to give it that extra season or potentially 2 so that it can go to syndication which is where the money is with any of these series. There are things that need fixing in the show. I do think however that putting the leads into a relationship is NOT something that needs to be done for the show to survive.
Friday nights at 8pm. Great plan for a young audience. So many young people are at home at that time. I think they will just show the first episodes of season 3. After all, no one watched them. I would be willing to bet that 3.5 seasons is all she wrote.
