Smash has been sent packing. The musical drama will finish its season on Saturday nights. While the peacock network hasn’t said that the show’s been cancelled, there’s no way they’re bringing it back for a third season.
Smash follows a cast and production team in New York as they try to mount a new Broadway musical. This season, the ensemble cast includes Debra Messing, Christian Borle, Katharine McPhee, Jack Davenport, Megan Hilty, Anjelica Huston, Leslie Odom Jr., Jeremy Jordan, Krysta Rodriguez, and Andy Mientus.
Last season, Smash was a moderate success for NBC, thanks in part to the strong lead-in support from The Voice. It averaged a 2.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 6.74 million total viewers.
This season, Smash has really suffered without the reality competition’s support. The six episodes that have aired thus far have averaged a mere 1.0 in the demo with 3.48 million.
Other than Fashion Star on Friday nights, Smash is currently NBC’s lowest-rated series.
While there’s no way NBC will be making a third season, there is positivenews. NBC appears to be commited to letting the remaining 11 episodes air. Smash will start running on Saturday nights on April 6th, at 9pm.
What do you think? Are you sad about Smash’s fate? Do you like the show this season?
Please do not cancel Smash! I love that show and the characters. I too am tired of fake REALITY shows. Find a place in the line up for it. I’m sure it will catch on.
Just read an article about Debra and it makes me want SMASH all the more. Come on NBC have some guts.
Please let Smash stay on, I’m so sick of reality shows. This one is different and I love the music.
My husband and I have watched both season in a period of about 3 weeks. LOVE IT! Hopefully another network will pick it up.
So sad about the recent news of SMASH, and hope that NBC reconsiders. The final episode was done tastefully and gracefully….leaving us in wonder as to whether or not it would come back. I haven’t enjoyed a show so much in a long time. Wish all the cast the very best!
I am so disappointed. Smash is the 4th show I’ve watched and then they’ve cancelled in the recent past. The characters are rich and interesting. I couldn’t wait to watch each week. I don’t think I will watch any new NBC shows in the future. It’s not worth it. I wouldn’t want to get invested like I did in Smash, Harry’s Law, Lipstick Jungle, Go On, and most recently Revolution, which I’m sure they will cancel because it is a good show. Seriously, NBC is the worst network. No wonder their ratings are terrible.
SO VERY SORRY TO SEE THIS SHOW END. I enjoyed this original, enjoyable and musical show. I looked forward to every episode. It was so nice to have an option to all the reality and cop shows.
My husband and I loved this show. I hope they reconsider. Why do they cancel all the decent shows that aren’t violent and offer true entertainment? The lineup gets trashier and more violent. Is that what the people want??? What does that say about our culture now.
I really like this show. I hope they change their minds.
