Smash has been sent packing. The musical drama will finish its season on Saturday nights. While the peacock network hasn’t said that the show’s been cancelled, there’s no way they’re bringing it back for a third season.
Smash follows a cast and production team in New York as they try to mount a new Broadway musical. This season, the ensemble cast includes Debra Messing, Christian Borle, Katharine McPhee, Jack Davenport, Megan Hilty, Anjelica Huston, Leslie Odom Jr., Jeremy Jordan, Krysta Rodriguez, and Andy Mientus.
Last season, Smash was a moderate success for NBC, thanks in part to the strong lead-in support from The Voice. It averaged a 2.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 6.74 million total viewers.
This season, Smash has really suffered without the reality competition’s support. The six episodes that have aired thus far have averaged a mere 1.0 in the demo with 3.48 million.
Other than Fashion Star on Friday nights, Smash is currently NBC’s lowest-rated series.
While there’s no way NBC will be making a third season, there is positivenews. NBC appears to be commited to letting the remaining 11 episodes air. Smash will start running on Saturday nights on April 6th, at 9pm.
What do you think? Are you sad about Smash’s fate? Do you like the show this season?
Seriously? Cancelling one of the most brilliant shows on the air right now? SHAME, SHAME, SHAME!!!!! It’s been like watching a weekly Broadway peek into the passion and pathos of genius. And the songs! Unbelievable. I just want the director and producers, the astounding cast, the writers, the musicians, the choreographers, the dancers, set and costume designers, makeup artists and more to know that I give you a STANDING O! I am one of your biggest fans and am mourning the lack of vision and courage of a network that didn’t believe in you enough… I look forward to following… Read more »
This is why I think it is sad that Smash is not airing for the 3rd season. I think it is crap when a show is just getting started and gets good with a bunch of celebrities. When the network has just decides to cancel it in the middle or at a climactic story point or when they move it to a new date and time without giving it a chance to take off. It takes a couple of months for it to have people getting use to watching it on a new day. Being a actress myself and seeing… Read more »
Cannot believe that you are cancelling this show…No wonder you are in so much trouble…I agree with all the positive comments above..I too absolutely hate all the stupid reality shows that are being aired..Come on competition networks pick this show up and I will so be there…
I adore Smash, and I’m truly sad it’s on a surefire way to cancellation. Honestly, I don’t think the show is the problem; the network just didn’t give it the promotion it needed to be noticed. Smash is the shining jewel in the waters of dull reality, and I am still livid that Ready for Love took Smash’s spot on Tuesdays (but in the end Ready for Love got cancelled, so suck that!) I would love for another network to pick up Smash, or even better, for the new trend of websites like Hulu and Netflix picking up cancelled network… Read more »
How do we vote for these shows, who the heck decides what to cancel. Some of these dumb reality shows should be cancelled. Can’t these networks find anything better to put on TV. Hope someone is reading these comments. Love the music on SMASH….
I want to see Smash come back.
Please do not cancel the show – i agree with comments above. I watch Smash on HULU and its the best show i have seen in years. Does NBC even take into account the hordes of people who watch episodes online?
OMG………best show in years. Please don’t cancel… the thrill of Broadway takes you away from all the crap that TV has to offer these days…NBC…what are you thinking
I love Smash! Don’t cancel! IF NBC lets it go hopefully another station will pick it up. I was so happy to have music coming from somewhere other than a stupid singing competition! Get rid of IDOl!
I love SMASH!!! Haven’t missed an episode . How do all those boring reality shows survive and NBC wants to cancel a series with so much talent and freshness? I don’t understand!!!!
My daughters and I absolutely love the show, but the first season was MUCH better than the second!! Would love to see something happen with Karen & Derek…. They blong together….. he truly loves her and has become a better person because of her. I hope to God they DON’T cancel this show… it is amazing and it is the only show out there geared around Broadway. When you can’t always afford tickets to broadway…. it’s nice to be able to bring a piece of it into your livingroom!!!! We love the whole cast.
I love this show! I’m going to be so sad! I don’t watch anything on NBC but this show!
I thoroughly enjoy this classy show. Please cancel something with zombies and decapitations and and leave Smash alone.
i look forward to Smash every week. if NBC cancels this show, then -other than occasionally watching SNL- there will be NOTHING on NBC that i want to watch.
i think that USA or TNT should pick up this show if NBC is stupid enough to let it go.
Smash is an incredible show with a highly devoted audience. The story line is interesting, the characters are believable and well rounded, and the music is fantastic. Why would you drop such a well written and thought provoking show? After watching each episode, I dwell on it for days. A show that sparks that much interest is VERY HARD TO FIND. DON’T CANCEL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Maybe a bit more advertising would help. At the very least, leave it on Saturday nights for those of us who are true fans and feel that this show is a PHENOMENON!!!
SMASH is too well written, too well produced and too well sung to appeal to the mass audiences looking for crap. It’s like trying to feed gourmet food to a fast-food audience. So sad it’s being cancelled. NBC did not really support the show, which they should have!
