NBC has confirmed that their musical drama Smash has been officially cancelled. There won’t be a third season.
The news certainly doesn’t come as a surprise. Everyone but the most optimistic viewers assumed that the series was already done.
Smash premiered very well last season when it followed The Voice. Despite the strong lead-in, the ratings declined as the first season wore on.
NBC renewed it anyway with an order for 18 installments. They no doubt regretted that move when season two debuted to poor numbers. The ratings got worse and they chose to burn off the remaining episodes on Saturday nights, rather than simply pull the show off the air.
The last two episodes of Smash are scheduled to air on Sunday, May 26th. Hopefully the producers saw the writing on the wall soon enough and wrapped up the ongoing storylines.
What do you think? Did you like Smash? Are you sorry that the series was cancelled?
are they crazy canceling out smach. give me a brake. we need more good tv. like this one. get with the program people……… loved this cast and story line. they were wonderful.. boo hoo I am very upset ..every thing is ratings and numbers…
I love this show and it was so nice to have something to watch on television that was not based around blood and gore. I am so sick of these shows. We need to go back to good enjoyable entertainment, and stop all the blood and guts. We see enough of that in our streets everyday. The majority of Americans have never experienced the joy of live theater. Watching Smash, gave them a taste of this incredible world, and inspired numerous kids to follow their dreams of performing on Broadway. Now, NBC who is known for making very bad decisions… Read more »
How could you cancel such a wonderful show!!! No wonder NBC is now 5th in the ratings they take off the good ones and leave the worst.
I loved SMASH! Watched Season 1 and Season 2 and absolutely thought the music was great. Loved getting a glimpse of the behind the scenes of Broadway. I really get tired of only stupid TV and am furious that intelligent shows get cancelled.
Loved this show ! Hate to see it end. Did not like the switch to Saturday night. We were usually not home and had to DVR it. Very disappointed !
Terrible that another great show is cancelled due to numbers. These rating systems need to be updated! Hello NBC, ever heard of on demand? Viewers don’t watch the show necessarily right when it airs!!!! I love smash. The characters were real and lovable. Kudos to Katherine McPhee who actually surprised me with her stellar acting skills. I hope to see this show on another network. Netflix? Lifetime? Cmon somebody pick up this series!
I know a lot of people got “bored” with the story line so didn’t continue to watch the 2nd season but it got so good!, I am so upset it has been cancelled. Every time I really like a show it gets cancelled, but other shows that are really dumb and I have lost complete interest in keep going 🙁
Story line got a little ridiculous, but the singing is great.
UPSETTING! I am truly disappointed with this decision. I watch very few shows these days and SMASH was outstanding. I am getting tired of my fave quality shows getting cancelled.
very disappointed!!!! Sick of reality shows, brainless sitcoms. Smash was different and good!
SMASH was such a better show than GLEE, I am shocked it has been cancelled. The music and choreography are awesome. I will admit that the storyline got a bit convoluted this season, but I would have actually paid good money to see “BOMBSHELL” on Broadway if it was a real musical and it should be. I cannot say the same of “HIT LIST” .
Loved the show! Love broadway storyline — upset when moved to Saturday, than adjusted. Looked forward to watching this. I got sucked in the first season. Was disappointed in S2/Ep1 but gave it another chance. Started getting good again S2/Ep2.
So upset this is cancelled.
Really enjoyed the cast too!
I liked the show. Every show I have liked lately on NBC gets cancelled. Almost sorry I started watching but season 1 was full of great music I purchased on iTunes, so not an entire loss. I try to stay away from NBC in general because of their cancellations.
very dissappointed………loved the music
This was an interesting show and had very good actors. It was the only show I recorded to watch later. I am so tired of all the reality (?) shows and run-of-the-mill sitcoms. Smash was something different. Very disappointed it was canceled.
