Star Trek is getting ready for its 2017 return on CBS All Access, but that is not all that is on the horizon for the Star Trek franchise. With Star Trek Beyond heading to theaters next month and a new virtual reality video game, titled Star Trek Bridge Crew, announced just yesterday at E3, the Star Trek franchise is alive and well as it celebrates its 50th anniversary.
Levar Burton was on hand for the E3 presentation of the new virtual reality game, and he spoke about the return of the franchise to television, and he thinks it is the right time for the series to return. He said the following, according to Digital Spy:
“I felt that it would eventually [return] and I’m encouraged that they’ve waited a proper amount of time,” he told us. Paramount and CBS, they learned from when there was an over-proliferation of Trek in the universe. I think that they are more mindful of how important it is to be a mindful steward of this very unique brand. I’m encouraged that Bryan is a fan of Star Trek. That bodes well,” he said. “I have a feeling that he will be incredibly respectful of not just the canon, but of the core values that Star Trek has always represented. I’m encouraged by that.”
Would Star Trek fans ever see Levar Burton on the new series? The actor tackled that possibility as well. He said:
“I think the visor – no matter what happens – it’s retired. Whether I’m involved either in front or behind the camera, time will tell. It’s not like I’ve been asked, but we’ll see what happens!”
Are you excited for the return of Star Trek? Would you want to see Levar Burton reprise his role of Geordi La Forge? Tell us what you think.
Of course! We need more “blind men teaching androids how to paint” type episodes!
